Samus needs a Permanent Suit Change

The light suit is too sexy and too femenine to ignore.
Retro has vastly improved the look of Samus and I say that the Light Suit needs to stay. Make some slight alterations and change the color back to normal if you must, but it by far the sleekest, sexiest suit Samus has ever worn.

The Varia Suit looks frumpy and masculine in comparison.

COULD SOMEBODY PLEASE COLOR THE RENDER TO THE TRADITIONAL COLORS?

I dunno man, the white one is totally PN03. Not as creative and unique as Samus' traditional one. Sure, it's clunky, but it sort of explains the fact that she has a ton of equipment in there and can transform into a ball (???). If you take that away, you lose part of her identity. Link would look like a total badass if he were a ninja, but he's not a ninja, he's a guy in a green elven outfit because that's what he wears.

Besides, like in Mega Man, finding out what the new outfits look like and how they perfect her modular suit design is part of the fun of playing. I'd like to see even more inventiveness in that regard in future Prime titles. Going for the sleek/sexy look just because it's more popular in the mainstream doesn't really suit (ha) Metroid's off-centre appeal, imo.

Like hell she does. Why does she need to be sexy?

Why can't she be?
Why can't her suit have another update like it did with Prime?
A recolored and slightly retooled Light Suit is still faithful enough to the original, but it has a sleeker, sexier, and more modern look.

I see no problem updating and impoving character design.

i like the light suit a lot, but the varia suit is a classic which was a design far ahead of its time. it can't be replaced.

well she bassicaly did get a suit redesign

Fusion is the "last" game in the series and if there are any games that take place after that point in the story they'll have to be using the fusion suit untill then the varia suit is her main suit story line wise

Yeah, it really wouldn't make sense if they changed her shit for Prime 3 and she went back to using the regular design in Super Metroid.

I don't understand why "It's a classic so it has to stay" applies.
Link has always had the green tunic, but he's had a bunch of variations of it through the years. What's wrong with a slightly new suit design (like the light suit) with the colors of the original?

That bad recoloring I did would look so good properly done.

And I like my avatars, so they stay.
Nothing wrong with putting my name in them.

well if Metroid (like 2d metoroid games) is in 3rd person, then I am all for a redesign, otherwise, I don't see how a redesign would do me anything in first person...

hey olimario, I know you're allergic to good games, but metroid fusion gave samus a permanent suit change into something sleeker. it also looks way better than the light suit from prime 2.

Fusion isn't a good game, though. It's average at best.
And I don't like the Fusion Suit. It looks like a wetsuit and an old fashioned deep sea diver helmet.

"average at best," and yet you're beside yourself over garbage like kirby's air ride?

Beside myself? :lol
You let people's perceptions of me affect your view of me a little too much. I enjoyed Kirby Air Ride, but like Fusion, hindsight shows me that it is average at best.

Pretty much IAWTP.

Metroid is not PN03. It's not Tomb Raider. Samus was designed from the beginning to be of an unknown gender with the suit on. The regular suit is rather well done to that effect, because it also looks "empty" enough for people to imagine it being upgraded later in the game - Rahul's Mega Man analogy is right on the money.

The Light Suit caught me by surprise in MP2; I was looking forward to another cool refinement like the Varia -> Gravity suit was in MP1 or Super Metroid, but instead Samus was downsized and given a very obvious female suit design this time around.

I'm glad Retro tried something new, but design-wise it felt no better than the fusion suit. If they really want to "update" things, how about an interesting story?

All the suits in MP2E kicked ass, imho. But there was something distinctly feminine about the Light Suit. That said, the traditional suits are SUPPOSED to look masculine. Remember how in the original game you were fooled into thinking she was a man until you beat it (if you beat it fast enough)?

Is it time to switch the suit permanently? That's what Metroid 4 did. Can't do it in the Prime series so long as it stays as a spin off series between Metroids 1 & 2.

I loved Fusion! The Fusion suit in Prime wasn't the coolest thing, but I loved the game so much. It may be my favorite Metroid in fact.

I'm not too fond of the Light Suit myself...

I'm suprised how many people dislike the light suit. In my mind its the sexiest version of Samus yet. It's sleek like something you'd find in ZOE2, but still gritty enough to belong to Metroid. Beautiful suit.

The light suit's not a bad design, but it's a little too biomechanical-looking, IMO. With a couple of minor tweaks, it could have made a terrific Fusion suit--remove the bottommost 'orb' on the chestpiece, and the three-spheres-in-a-pyramid arrangement is very evocative of the three 'eyes' on a Metroid. Between that and the more organic look, it would've really clicked, IMO.

Well she loses it at the end of Echoes anyway doesnt she? I really liked it but the varia suit is her default one and should remain so.

It just looks really cool. I like how "robust" and powerful it look when compared to the standard Power Suit.

Keep the Varia Suit, and then get upgraded suits like always. Why does it need to change? Why don't we change Link's green tunic and Mario's outfit, too?

Yeah and just think how cool it will be when they show Metroid on Revolution for the 1st time. Wouldnt be the same if she was wearing something different.

I somehow suspect that a Revolution Metroid will be Metroid 5, and thus feature the Fusion Suit mechanics. Oh how I wish Retro would try that one...

I kind of doubt it since the ending for Prime 2 hints at Prime 3.

The regular Power Suit is also one of my favorites.

It's not that I dislike the light suit, it's that I think Samus should have a different sexy air to her than Vanessa in PN03 for instance. For instance, although the Fusion suit is far more bodytight and curvaceous than the Varia suit, Samus actually hulks over and moves a lot more heavily in the game, which for me contrasts the femininity of the suit design to balance things out a little. If they were to keep such a balance when introducing a more elegant light suit variation in an upcoming Prime title, then it might be more feasible, but at this point in time just adding more curves to somehow imply that Samus is a hot chick seems like "selling out" to the transparency present in pretty much any other title featuring a female lead.

Samus Aran is an asskicking, objective bounty hunter. Everything about the game, including the suit, should reflect that, imo.

Samus' Cyber-Suit was created by the Chozo's...it should remain the same and remain being her main suit.

However, I think other suits from other planet's/cultures/creator's should be present as well. Like let's say a stealthy Zebeth Pirate Suit, or even an Earth Suit that's mecha-like with two arm cannons. In my fanfic there's 7 main life planets and each planet has a "legendary suit" each with their own unquness:
Astra-Beauty
Chozo-Wisdom
Earth-Strength
Bismark-Logic
Enique-Emotion
Key-Creativity
Zebeth-Cunning

I'm a big fan of Metroid, Bubblegum Crisis as well as the Ronin Warriors...so I've given the idea of legendary armors & cyber-suits alot of thought.

True, but now that the Metroid Prime is in the form of Dark Samus, (whom we know survived MP2E, one way or another) nothing says that Dark Samus has to show up again while still in the MP story arc (between Metroid 1 & 2.) Nothing stopping Nintendo from making Metroid Prime 3 BE Metroid 5. I'm not saying it'll happen. But wouldn't it be nice?

Wow dude... you could've had the friggin' Gettysburg Address around this little phrase, and you'd still be made fun of mercilessly.

...Oh yeah, the Power and Varia suits are classic. They must remain!

like i said there

it's not about It's classic it has to stay it's about that's how the story goes it has to stay

untill they do a story that takes place after fusion the suit can't change

Varia Suit for life! Plus changing suits would mess up the timeline. Any main/starter suit change before Fusion wouldn't make sense.

Aside from the fanfic note he made (:lol), he did hint at something that has already happened. I mean, look at it this way:

Varia Suit: Chozo
Fusion Suit: Metroid
Light Suit: Luminoth

...so nothing to stop Retro from introducing yet another new suit type if another civilization is involved.

MP2E actually mentions a couple of different "higher" species by name. The Luminoth, the Chozo, and a 3rd species whose name I cannot recall are all mentioned within the same context. (Traveling the stars, inhabiting a planet, etc.)
