Saturn 10th Anniversary USB Gamepads

These are official SEGA pads apparently, the pure white and gold pads are $50 a piece, others $40.

Champagne Gold (Limited ed.)
Gray
White
Pure white (sold out!)
Metallic blue
Black

Impressions of these vary, it's either great or poor but I did get a order in for the sexy pure white before they sold out (I'm a consumer whore).

Just got one of these the other day... Works great on the PC too!

^ These do not feel as good as Saturn pads.

I'm still on the fence myself. I like the above over the Saturn controller for a couple reasons:

Thicker. I have large hands
Smooth d-pad and buttons.
Buttons are all the same size.
Longer cord.

Thanks, I can see why you'd prefer these, though out of your list, the only change that I'd like over the Saturn pad is same sized buttons. How are the parts smoother? I recall my S pad button having a smooth concave feel. Also, the thin-ness is a major plus.

Sega needs to put out a new version of the Saturn Analog controller as well as a new version of NiGHTS to play it with.

The d-pad on the Saturn pad (when it's new anyway) has some friction due to the type of plastic used. The Anniversary pad has laminated plastic buttons and pad, which suits fighting games better.

I've been playing MvC and Hyper Fighting all morning here at work w/ the pad and I can truly say that for me, this thing is better than the Saturn pad.

I bought one of the USB Saturn pads in Japan a few months back. The d-pad is busted. Seriously unusable. Directions don't register if you don't push hard enough. It's not half as responsive as it should be, or as the real SAT pad is.

Dunno if I got a bad one or what, but it was a complete waste of 3000 yen. Buyer beware.

You're paying for the color. You can find JP Saturn pads for cheap, and the OG ones work perfectly w/ an adapter. It was my main emu pad until I got the SF Anniversary one.

Go to Liksang and search for Magic Box.

There have been numerous clones made since I've had mine (~2 years).

I think that would be a smart move, but we know how Sega is with smart moves.

Do you honestly see it selling enough? Yeah, NiGHTS is a definite cult hit, but most casual gamers could care less about it.

Hey DaCoco, are you using this with the PC? If so, I can't figure out why 2d fighters don't register the fireball movement on the dpad as much. Does that magic box converter work? I have some old psx -> Pc controller adaptor I use for my PC but I wonder if the magic box will actually work better. Or if you have any settings advice?

I've noticed the same thing. The two PC adaptors that I have used (two different Radio Shack models) seem to drop some input when it comes to quarter-circle motions. What game or what emu doesn't seem to matter. I suspect that it's a timing thing. The motions are doable, but you're prone to "miss" far more often.

I'm actually using a Radio Shack brand PS/PSII adapter, but the Magic Box works just the same. Performance wise, I can't tell the difference between the two.

As for the fireball issue, I notice that when I use a stick via Magic Box, I get them out far more consistantly. You guys are more than likely not hitting 'down' as your first input during the hcf motion.
