SCEE exec teases "an amazing big title coming to Vita" [Not an indie title]

GTA Gameplay video is at 14 million views in less than a week. I really hope Rockstar is still making something for Vita and Sony is doing all they can to back that up.

CoD seems unlikely, since Activision wasn't even willing to put an internal team on the first game. That is a perfect example of where Sony could have stepped in and taken on development to the benefit of all parties involved, but not with Nihilistic making the game. Instead it should have been agreed upon well before launch and that is what Zipper should have made for the Vita. A SOCOM style shooter with CoD branding to bring in the casuals.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Activision make some pretty decent money on CoD? It obviously didn't cost much to make… they have a ton of internal teams, I'd be surprised if they weren't working on it in some capacity (not necessarily for release this year though)

Then where are COD and Assasins Creed? They have not even announced at E3 and announcing it at Gamescom would be a little too late if people buy the console versions instead
Just my guess, but i dont think that many chose to either buy COD: Declassified or Black Ops 2, or either buy AC: Liberation or AC3. The games are different games, not ports of the console version. I have no idea if there will be a Call of Duty or Assassins Creed game for Vita this year, but its not to late to announce it because i'm pretty sure they would be different games again, not ports of COD: Ghosts and Assassins Creed 4.

That'd be nice, I think it's possible we'll get something like Chinatown Wars 2 announced as a 3DS/Vita cross platform game. Similar to Batman being on both 3DS and Vita.

Gamescom would make sense if it's going to be a follow up to AC3:L by Ubisoft Sofia. They haven't announced anything since it was released, and Ubisoft has said they were quite happy with how it sold for them on the system.

Ubisoft Sofia is one of the teams working on Assassin's Creed IV. No clue if that work encompasses their entire studio.

As for COD, rumors say Activision were working on it internally but couldn't get the engine running well in time for the required launch.

it was famiusmortimer, I guess the engine is incompatible, not that they can't make it in time.its your thread too lol.
What i've heard from folks (two, to be exact) inside sony is similar but it's more like...

*Activision tried to scale down the COD engine to fit on the vita, something that Sony said wasn't a good idea but activision did anyway. From what I hear they worked on it for 18 months(!).

*It didn't work.

*Sony sent over Nihilistic to start from scratch using the engine they just created for resistance.

*They created the entire game from the middle of May to the middle of October.

*The reason it *had* to come out this year was because the contract the two (sony and activision) signed stipulated that it would come out at this time and sony paid 12 million in marketing as part of this contract. Basically, it sounds like its a clusterfuck to change a release date when there is a contract between two huge entities like this.

*Ive also heard from multiple people that it was 100% activision's call to charge $50.

All things considered the game is actually pretty fun for something in development for 5 months. It's certainly not $50 worth of fun though.

And if I'm sony I'm not particularly happy with activision right now.

So they are finally making games for this thing? No more "hey there are already 600 PSP and PS classic games." Is there actually going to be ONE Vita exclusive game I will want to buy?

If Gurrellia Cambridge can port the PS3 Killzone engine to Vita I think CoD should've been possible.

How many Vita games look like Killzone? Even close? Native res and great graphics and solid frame rate?

It should be possible, but it likely would require a top notch developer putting in a lot of effort. And that's a combination you don't really see on the Vita much.

Here's a question for people sitting on the fence over a Vita... (Don't know if there would be many coming to the thread... But still)

If the BioShock game finally got made.
A GTA or Red Dead Vita game got announced.
And Demons Souls got a port, or Demons Souls 2.

Would you then take the plunge and buy one?
Or is a price cut more important right now?

Please be a GTA. I suppose a cut down version of GTA V would be possible, the same city but a new story and new character or something would be amazing.

What I find ironic is that if the Vita gets a massive "AAA" game that generates a lot of hype, there will be people crying out that it would've been better on consoles and that the Vita is holding it back. It's the dilemma of the whole "console-experience on a handheld".

you are basing this with 3ds err? Or even wiiu lol....

I have no doubt vita won't face this problem.

This is true, and happened to a certain extent with Gravity Rush and Golden Abyss. I think that can be alleviated though, if the Vita version is technically sound, and displays no obvious compromises. Golden Abyss (whilst phenomenal looking at times), suffered from not being native res, as did Gravity Rush.

It's a real shame, but I can't see Sony investing the 20-30 million required to make a truly AAA title along the lines of Uncharted on Vita. Mercenaries is a step in the right direction, but it still appears stripped down from a presentation point of view.

I wonder why people beg for Gravity Rush on ps3, it won't play the same.. Its one of those game which experience is only possible on portable (with the screen in front of you) in this case vita.

I think Gravity Rush could play fine on PS3 (using Sixaxis), but you're right, the effect of peering through a window into the world and using that to control the camera would be broken. It was a terrifically charming game, my main gripe was that the world itself, while beatiful, wasn't infused with much life and personality, and things felt a bit too structured. The approach to open world design felt a bit dated compared to something like Red Dead.

I would absolutely love a GTA game given the kind of attention to detail GTA V appears to be getting (even if the land-mass was a 1/3rd the size). My most-wanted franchises for Vita at the moment are:

GTA
Skyrim/Mass Effect
Minecraft

I would also take a port of The Last of Us multiplayer mode :)

While I agree, it's more the user base that worries me. Gravity Rush seems to have sold around 300 000 copies (but finding numbers is hard), which is not a lot if true. So if the way to continue the serie (the end of 1 was such a tease for a sequel) is ps3 or 4, I'm ok with it, rather than nothing.

There was a DF interview of Ubisoft Sofia, which hinted at AC sequel on VITA.
Digital Foundry: Mobile gaming hardware is doubling in power every year. To what extent do you believe that Vita can remain competitive?

Ubisoft Sofia: Mobile gaming hardware is growing very fast, but there are still only two dedicated portable gaming devices out there. The Vita is in a very good position because it sports all the good features from home consoles combined with cool features like touch screens and GPS. We also think that the Playstation Network plays a huge part of the Vita's position on the market and that Sony is doing an amazing job with it. Taking into account the recent price drop, a huge backlog of PSP, PSN and Playstation Mobile titles as well as support from AAA games, which have already appeared on the console, it is not hard to see that Vita has a nice future ahead.

Vita is rumored to get a price drop at Gamescom. It will be the perfect time to announce a brand new AC game. I enjoyed Liberation and thought it was a pretty good AC title on portable. Perhaps, the best one so far.

Don't forget that we still haven't got the answer to this leaked image

Even the SS resolution is close to AC 3: Liberation(720x384)

Then we had another retailer listing for it

All in all, i am pretty damn sure that another AC title on VITA is definitely gonna be there.

I'm sure it made a good bit of money for everyone involved, but it wasn't a particularly good experience and made it pretty clear that Activision isn't committed to Vita support.

Ubisoft Sofia is one of the teams working on Assassin's Creed IV. No clue if that work encompasses their entire studio.

Ubi Sofia also helped with Assassin's Creed 3 while still making AC3:L and has been hiring since it's release for a "new AAA game". With how well it sold and the fact that Ubi Sofia isn't big enough to take on a full PS4 title I wouldn't be surprised at all if they have a follow up in mind.

As for COD, rumors say Activision were working on it internally but couldn't get the engine running well in time for the required launch.
Sure, and if what famousmortimer said is true do you think it's the kind of experience that will prompt Activision to go back to it? They tried to do a half assed engine port, had it blow up in their face, and needed a Sony partner with ready made first person engine to come bail them out. I have a hard time seeing them stepping up to the plate with a "real" CoD in the near future as a result.

300k isn't bad in sales, especially since I doubt Project Siren had a very big team assembled for the game. It also reviewed very well and Toyama has dropped more than a few hints that a sequel is in the works.

As for it's sales numbers, Toyama also said that it crossed the 100k sales mark on his twitter feed in late March 2012, that was before it's international release.

A Mutil platform sequel will be the best :D

I based my statement partially off the examples Chris pointed out, especially Gravity Rush as is being discussed. I've seen a few complaints here and there from non-Vita owners that never fully grasped that the experience wouldn't be the same on a console.

I'm still waiting for a so-called "AAA" game that is amazing because it plays on the strengths the Vita has to offer, rather than trying to emulate the grand scope of a console game and feeling watered down because of it.

I hope we find out this game at Gamescom. Or at the very least, find out a week before gamescom if we should be expecting any big surprises.

No it won't ruin the show if you tell us. It will ruin the show if there aren't big reveals and we're expecting them.

I wish they made a CoD4 port for the Vita instead of BO: Declassified...

That would have been great! If you can get CoD for Vita cheaply, I still would btw. MP is really active and the gameplay and maps that are there, are fun.

It seems to me that COD Vita is selling well based on the fact that it hasn't been on a sale so far.

I mean even Liberation got a price drop + was sale for like 14 dollars recently.

It takes for Call of Duty titles to go on sale though. I remember CoD4 still being almost full RRP years after release here in Australia.

Hey guys, I've managed to get hold of Shahid's email to Ken:

Hi Ken,

Got a great idea for your PS Vita game - Bioshock Infinite Runner! We could also release it on PS Mobile!

Let me know what you think, please! Please. Ken.

Please.

Please, Ken.

All the best!

Shahid

Hey guys, I've managed to get hold of Shahid's email to Ken:

Make fun of the guy all you want, but it would be fucking hilarious is Bioshock Vita happens because of SCEE, and not SCEA. Its also probably pretty much a fact that not for Shahid, and his team all we would have to look forward to on the platform is a few niche japanese releases. SCEE has done far more for Vita then SCEA will most likely ever do.

Do we know if Ken sent an email to Shahid? I'm very curious.

Do we know if Ken sent an email to Shahid? I'm very curious.

Very unlikely we will know anytime soon if ever, but if Ken is really trying to push and Shahid has the authority to negotiate with Ken/Take2 I cant see any reason he would not atleast talk to him. I just dont know if SCEE can make deals with publishers in the US, or Vise-versa.

I would love for ken to show the game at E3 next year and name drop Shabid. Its a shame the guy is not allowed to talk about deals with the larger 3rd parties atleast to the extent he can with indie devs. Looking forward to seeing what goes down at gamescom, though im still keeping my expectations in check. The two big rumors I know of are Ass Creed pheonix, and Rainbox Six so both could happen at gamsscom if they are real.

Who's Tony Clark? Is he anyone worth listening to, or just another Sony hypemeister who will inevitably disappoint us?

He is Shahid's boss.

Don't do it. Teach yourself to expect the opposite of vague tweets.

Right. But to be honest, anything Vita-related on Sony's Gamescom conference will already be infinitely better than what we got at E3's.

Never forget

Bioshock vita might still be a thing, especially considering Levine's latest tweets and Boyes' meeting with him.

As for RE PSP, there is no emoticon that can express my anger towards Capcom for that.
