I'll give my 2 cents.

She's the best actress in the world atm. I fucking howled with laughter when she was given her guilty sentence.. what was that action she did again? Smack her head a few times? WTF is that gonna do.

But at the same token, why bother smuggling drugs in when you could get it dirt cheap over there?

you know what sucks? The information from the australian side of the journey reporting what her bag weighed at checkin "cannot be found"

what an enourmously unfortunate coincidence.

Yeah, exactly. I'm sure criminals all over the world are smuggling over 8 lbs of pot into a country where it's value is 1/10th of where you are coming from. Don't people think anymore?

This is a sad case, and it's shit like this that will lead us to a New World Order with univeral laws.

20 years for pot, fucking really. She may be guilty and a total fucking idiot, or innocent and the victim of some horrible misuse of justice but either way 20 years is what she does not deserve. And the people rejoicing over this news including various Indonesian lobby groups and some in this thread must really be some callous pricks. Either way, fuck ever going to Indonesia or any other SE Asian country, all it takes is some bastard to slip some harmless pot in your bag and you'll be stuck in some rotting cesspool for two decades, not worth the risk. And if she got 20 years for pot imagine what's going to happen to the Bali 9, talk about throwing away your life.

If you don't agree with the harshness of the sentence (which isn't something they came up with just for her), that's fine but to say she was set up. Come on...

I'd feel more sympathy for her if she came clean...

what if she really was set up? I mean, they cannot find the information about what her bag weighed at check in. That is suss right there. And she had a public defender and it was there first big case against a judge that has never let a single person off ~500 cases. That blows anyway you look at it. Fair trial?

I've been following the case and IMO, the weed was hers. And the trafficking penalties in some countries are ridiculous so she should be happy she didn't get the firing squad. Both governments should do a prisoner swap or something cos I dunno how well she'll hold up in some third world jail for any long stretch!

Who said that? I didn't; I'm not prepared to make a claim either way. The claim of being setup is her defence so that is why it is being considered. Regardless of her guilt or innocence her sentence is ridiculous for a number of reasons -

1. It's pot...who the fuck cares? I wonder what penalty they would give for smuggling tobacco?
2. Convicted murders have been sentenced to lesser terms than this, I read in the paper on Sunday for sentence of 10 years for murder.
3. Lets not forget Abu Bakar Ba'asyir either, what'd he get a couple of years house arrest?

And not only is the court system in that country so cruelly inconsistent but its legal standards leave much to be desired as well. This case would be thrown out if it was in an Australian court. The onus would be on the prosecution to prove her guilt which is something that I don't believe was done at all in this case. It appears the Indonesian judiciary works on an opposite 'guilty till proven innocent' basis, basically as draconian as the sentences they hand out.

haven't you heard anything about the investigations into baggage handlers in australian airports? the claim isn't she was setup, but that baggage handlers plant this stuff in people's luggage after the sniffer dogs have gone over it and then the goods are picked up at the next airport before the sniffer dogs go over it again. this is how they transport the stuff around australia. heads of australian airline companies have admitted to these investigations taking place, yet it all seems to have being ignored in this case.

they believe the pickup at brisbane airport was missed and that's why she was caught in Indonesia. it isn't a matter of a setup, but a bungled transport from sydney to brisbane.

A lot of fucking good looking women, the model type carry weed around in their bags over here in Amsterdam, I don't believe Corby, its hers, she should just come clean.

Anyway she should count her blessings, at least she didn't end up in Thailand

I wouldn't say she's teh 'model-type', though. And do they carry around 4 KILOs?! That's a lot of pot.

yes, but do they carry round surfboard bags full of it? Also, do they try and take it to countrys where the legal system literally wants to kill you for it? I think Amsterdam may be a tad more relaxed on their weed policy (and thats a great great thing :) )

You can get it very cheap in Bali, but most of the time the person you bought it off will run around the corner to a cop and tell them they just sold it to you. You get arrested and they get the money for the weed PLUS a reward from the cops. Thats how it works in Bali.

In fact most European and Australian tourists are so terrified of buying it off locals in Bali that they'll pay more than 3 times as much to buy it off a white person... So it's actually pretty valuable to smuggle it in.

I really doubt Corby is guilty though, to me it seems pretty damn likely it was planted, I mean she had 4 kilos of weed UNHIDDEN in an unlocked bag going into a country that gives the death penalty for drug smuggling. She would have to be really, really fucking stupid to do that.

If she is innocent...man imagine thinking youre about to go on an awesome holiday in Bali, having done nothing wrong, then getting arrested and rotting in a Balinese prison for 20 years...

sounds like bullshit to me. why wouldn't the cops arrest the people selling the weed as well?

Dude, Scrow wasn't saying Corby KNEW the drugs were in the bag but expected them to be taken out at Sydney, what he was saying was a whole lot of baggage handlers WERE arrested because "baggage handlers plant this stuff in people's luggage after the sniffer dogs have gone over it and then the goods are picked up at the next airport before the sniffer dogs go over it again"..

...in that it is without the owners knowledge. Seriously, they were arrested for this shit the same day as Corby was arrested. Although admittedly, they were busted with cocaine. But it really happened, he isn't making it up.

You don't KNOW it was hers. You may have an opinion sure, but none of us really KNOW, except her. But either way I still feel pity for the poor girl... I wouldn't want it to be me.

My post had nothing to do this scrow I didn’t even quote him, all I was saying is she may have been willingly carrying weed to Sydney and expected them to be removed before going to Bali.

And before you get all Caps’s lock on me I never said the drugs were hers I said “think”, there are plenty of potential scenarios.

Probably the same reasons why pimps and johns are arrested, while the hookers are left alone.

Anyway, 20 years for pot smuggling is pretty ridiculous. But it's pretty ridiculous wherever you go...

- The Iranian goverment sentenced four people for preaching about their Baha'i religion to ten years in jail.

- In the same country, a woman was sentenced to death for killing her husband, a drug addict whom she said had raped her 15 year old daughter.

- A woman in Nigeria was sentenced to death for having a baby out of wedlock. The method of death? Burial up to her neck in sand, then stoned to death. This ruling was overturned due to lack of evidence, when the court ruled that no one had observed the conception of this child. :lol

- In Singapore, 15 grams of heroin or 500 grams of pot gets you the sentence of death. Being a homosexual nets you two years in the slammer. And you can't even chew gum in public.

A lot of this shit just sounds nutty to people used far lesser punishments. But considering Canada's got a woman who was convicted in taking part in the sex slayings of two high schoolers getting out of jail next week after a mere 12 years, and Texas has a court system that is far too inclined in strapping blacks into the chair, it's safe to say there isn't a justice system out there that's close to perfect.

I know its fucking retarded, but it's not bullshit. It happens all the time. It's just a thing that locals set up with the cops to help them catch people buying weed and make money for themselves.

Then Australia can send some people there to do some real investigation. And if those idiots in Indonesia won't allow it, they should send a crack team of commandos there to free her. :p
That would be a much better setup for Rambo IV than that white supremacist bullshit Stallone is planning...

how strict are they about this in thailand? my sister was there a few years ago and bought "special" cookies from some travelling vendor on the beach. this vendor sold normal cookies as well, but if you specifically asked for the "special" ones she'd lift up the tray out of the box to reveal a hidden second layer underneath. i wonder how much danger my sister and her boyfriend were in doing that...

I didn't say that you said the drugs were hers. I said Cloudy said that.

But True, you didn't quote Scrow and I assumed you were following on from his statement, and it is never wise to make assumptions. But if you weren’t, where did that theory come from? I don’t think it makes sense that she expected the drugs to be taken out of her bags at Sydney, there is no evidence that suggests that she was in on the baggage handling scam.

And to Tommy, I have to agree with your earlier statement, yeah, she’s pretty damn cute.

Someone sent me this today... it doesn't take long...

You know, today I drove past Schapelle's Beauty salon, and there was a sign on the door....

It said "Back in 20".

Boom boom.

(I really do feel for the poor girl and the situation she is in, guilty or not. But God I laughed my ass off when I read that for the first time).

I mean geez how is this gonna help her??? I do find it amusing that no one has mentioned the word "terrorist" yet...

It's got nothing to do with Terrorists. Apart from the hypocrisy that the mastermind behind the Bali bombings where almost 300 people were killed (including 88 Australians) only gets 2 years, where Schapelle gets 20.… for dope for Christ’s sake.

Anyway…

Did you hear Victor Lawnmowers have introduced a new model into their range called the “Victor Schapelle”?

Yep! It holds 4 ½ kg of grass, and it’s guaranteed for 20 years!
