Back in my day we played CS and brood war on the school PCs.

But of course we were in the special tech program(which basically meant we were unpaid IT monkeys for the school). Upside was we could do basically anything we wanted on the computers. :P

My cousin got into a private school and the students there got Macbooks. Insanity. OP, you need to stop being entitled to stuff. It's given to you so you can do your homework, not dick around.
Got a problem with it? Buy your own.
At least you got a computer. A lot of people would love to get something like that.

The only electronic my school mandated I use was a TI-83 calculator which I had to buy myself, and it certainly didn't go online. It had some dank games though.

I love how he complained about taxes. He is a child, he has no idea what paying taxes is like.

Maybe he lives in some weird backwoods dystopian town where the children have taken over and pay all the taxes whilst mom and dad await the coming of the New God. And also the kids are idiots who bought themselves Chromebooks that won't allow them to check their precious instagram.

Yeah at my high school they give out iPads and for the longest time they didn't have reddit blocked so everyone would browse it(I don't really care for reddit) but one day they blocked it so everyone had to find ways around it. I knew some people that setup proxies to get around just to browse reddit at school. I just use a browser proxies to get on Gaf when I have free time.

If I demanded a personal computer, much less scoffed at one provided to me for free by the school, they probably would have beaten me with a ruler.

Enjoy your budget homework machine :p

why not just use a different computer? They are not forcing you to use the one they gave you, unless you are in class of course.

Look up some gross and nasty wiki articles.

Look up hemorrhoid, get all the pictures and send 999x to school printer.

"For education".

okay so my school just gave all the students in our highschool chromebooks for "free" (raised our taxes by a significant sum this year) but i would not have an issue with this if there where not so many restrictions to them. you can not access reddit youtube facebook twitter even when your not at school. also the school reserves the right to snoop on what you are doing on it even if you are at home and that they reserve the right to monitor you remotely through the camera on the pc and they can snoop on your private emails. this all just seems ridiculous. sorry for the rage post

Um would you expect to surf dank memes on a textbook?

We're doomed America. This backfire is our future.

Waste of money I agree. Unfortunately school districts everywhere are getting conned into this. At least they aren't worthless iPads.

At least you can do work on a chromebook. Though I don't know why schools seem to want to give kids everything except a device that actually runs Office well, which they'll need for college.

Are you in your 40s?

I used Apple II's in school, I am in my 40s :(

Look upon me ye young and mighty and despair, for your future is laid bare in the visions of a 45 year old sitting in his underwear browsing gaming forums after his family has gone to sleep.

I bet OP wanted an ipad, every school around here hands out ipads like they are cracker jack prizes. Shit, i bet only my fellow Apple IIers know what a cracker jack prize is.

Dude, this is our time. Tomorrow let's use our excellent credit to buy basically any car we like, and beat skinny hipsters in political arguments because we're familiar with the details of glasnost and the cultural revolution.

Chromebooks and the Silicon Valley overly clean corporate dystopia are really quite depressing. If you're giving kids computers at a young age you need to be giving them the opportunities to do some fuckin' dirt with 'em, get your head around some basic programming, learn how to get motherfucking Drugwars! running on it or whatever to light the spark of just what can be done with programming.

How the fuck does a Chromebook accomplish any of that? Oh, wow, I can input data and create content on "the cloud." Yeah, real inspiring, unless you think a boring soulless corporate future like we're heading towards is actually a good thing. Really gonna recommend this Atlantic article on the TI-83.

What I learned from this topic : it's totally okay for adults to gang up on a teenager and be incredibly condescending and insulting.

I agree that the OP was very misguided and that the chromebook is for work, and for work only. But there are better ways to convey a message than with endless "witty" remarks about how entitled and crappy "kids these days" are.

All I see here is a bunch of adults stroking their own egos at being older than the OP for some reason.

I think OP got the message between the 100th and 300th message saying the same "I'm old ur not kids suck i rock" drivel.

We gotta teach him how the world works. Tough love bruh.

What a pile on...

Anyway some people may have a point about facebook, twitter and reddit but I'd argue that youtube being blocked is very stupid. Youtube can be an invaluable source for educational needs. I know I've read of some teachers making use of youtube for the classroom as well.

It's a great tool in this day and age, if you don't know something, there is... probably a youtube vid for it :P

Kinda sucks but since it's for school work....

Yeah, not cool. Is no one complaining to the school board about this?

Just put it away and use your own personal laptop.

Man I am so old

Just install Linux on it if you're ready to break all the rules, kid!
OP would have to break the warranty sticky to remove the screw that locks the back panel in place and remove the write-protect screw from the RAM to reset the BIOS to legacy mode in order to do that [end run-on].

I know because that's exactly what I did with mine. :)
