Science Confirms That Dogs Can Sense ‘Bad People’

Does your dog act differently towards different types of people? Better yet, does your dog seem to dislike folks you’re not a fan of either? Well, maybe that’s because your dog can sense when someone is a ‘bad person.’

Science has just confirmed that dogs can discern a good person from a not-so-good person. Science tells us that dogs can actually sense when someone isn’t kind even when that person isn’t unkind to them specifically. Pretty incredible, huh?

Many argue that cats are more discerning than dogs and that dogs pretty much like everyone — but this study says that simply isn’t true!

According to a study by Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews, dogs can differentiate a good person from a not-so-good person.

During the experiment, the dog owners were given a container that was difficult to open. The dog owners then turned to a researcher for assistance. The researchers either 1. helped the dog owner 2. stood there passively or 3. refused to help altogether — Then, all the researchers offered the dogs a treat.

The dogs were much more likely to take a treat from a helpful or passive researcher but ignored the ones who refused to help their owners.

The study clearly illustrated that dogs do not always ‘act out of self-interest.‘ The researcher who refused to help open the container showed no ill will towards the dog itself. The dogs, however, sensed that the researcher was being unkind to their owner and wanted nothing to do with them.

No shit!

Also produced by Wilson, the title derived from his fascination with cosmic vibrations, as his mother would tell him as a child that dogs sometimes bark at people in response to their "bad vibrations".

Still ahead of it's time.

Or are they sensing the owner... not the “bad person.”

running that experiment without the owner present would actually prove what they want to show
From this study,
Dogs negatively evaluate people who refuse to help their owners.
That line cracked me up. They're judging you, they're a people.

I mean I have some experience with dogs but cats; oh boy.. whenever I have someone over for a "sleepover" she's sure to make it known she's not happy with me shifting priorities regarding whom I give my full attention to. Almost comically so.. Such entitlement lol.

With that said I've had my cat being such a bitch towars a certain girl and in retrospect I know why ya know?

🤣🤣🤣

“We discovered for the first time that dogs make social and emotional evaluations of people regardless of their direct interest,” said lead researcher Kazuo Fujita, a professor of comparative cognition at Kyoto University. The dogs showed no preference for accepting food in the other scenarios, according to the study, set to be published in the journal Animal Behaviour.

That the dogs don’t always act out of immediate self interest is evidence of their ability to cooperate socially, a trait found in a few species, Fujita said.

“There is a similar study that showed tufted capuchins have this ability, but there is no evidence that chimpanzees demonstrate a preference unless there is a direct benefit to them,” he said.

Very high social and emotional intelligence.

Hmm, it seems the dogs observed a-hole behavior and then reacted by not playing along with being given a treat from those people.

That's different from innately sensing whether someone is inherently bad/evil.

I do think some dogs can probably read "vibes" like perceptive people can. So maybe there is something to it, but this experiment doesn't really say much other than dogs are smart and empathetic towards their owners.

So I read the study and it says this:

Dogs negatively evaluate people who refuse to help their owners.

Looks like dogs are still morons that eat their own shit and bark at the moon. And, from here on out, I am being less helpful to dog owners, just so their four-legged friends can bark and growl, and their dumb, superstitious owner can go home and tell their dumb, equally-superstitious spouse that Sparky sensed an evil person.

I'm honored to be a part of that equation.
