So he probably should have said nothing since he didnt know instead of saying "no, i dont think so"? Why say no if you dont know anything about the hardware? That scratches my head.

Can you see my pov on it? And dont think i want one or the other to win, i love all 3 and i am very happy for their existence. So dont paint me thinking i hold the scorpio as the finger of god giving me the blessed console of might. :p

All my negative arguments are grounded but some don't like to read it.

It's cool though, it carries no weight as long as it comes from those same guys, who do it over and over without even realizing how meaningless it is.

Matt was just relating what he heard to us in this thread. Whether or not he is 100% sure that the Scorpio will end up with Zen or not, you will have to ask him.

I can see your POV, but I think you expressed it in the wrong way. Accusing anyone of any sort of bias or lie is always going to anger them and/or others. Also, I never called you a fanboy of any platform.

Okay. I agree. My way of asking could have came out like a witch hunt i suppose. My apologies.

One more question: if i go into a sony thread, that is guessing about the next hardware, and my first post is "no it wont be that much more powerful than the xbox".

Later to come find out dev kits arent even out until the following month.

Then i say" well i dont know what theyll have but i dont think itll be much a difference"

Would you question why i even made the first comment at all? Yes or no

And lets pretend im a dev with insider inforamtion for all 3 companies.

After that ill stop asking about matt i promise :p

The Scorpio and Pro will make this generation more exciting, a 6-7 year generation (2019-2020) would be a decent length, it may even go 7+ years like the PS3 and Xbox 360 did.

In 2020 there's going to be amazingly powerful hardware that will leave room for potent console hardware for the next generation of machines, the generational leap is going to be amazing!

I retract what I said about 2019 as another year or two will only make things better as hardware becomes more affordable and feasible to put into consoles.
2020-2022 would be better.

GPU hardware that is close to or over 20x more powerful than the PS4 will be available in 2019-2020, a year or two later (2020-2022) and such GPU hardware will become more affordable, feasible and maybe even more powerful to use for consoles.

That's not completely true. She indeed talked about about three upcoming design wins in 2016/2017 which we now know to be PS4 Pro, XB1 S and Scorpio. However, her saying that they have a Zen design win in 2017 doesn't automatically point to it being about consoles because

She don't disclose Polaris tech being in the PS4 yet she we still about to talk about having a design win as part of the Semi-custom business. Also as mentioned by JaseC unlike GPU's you're not going to get mix and matching of architecture features so ruling out Zen custom wins in 2017 rules out it out in Scorpio.

I can't imagine this craziness going on for 2-4 more months until some kind of reveal. Spencer needs a mercy kill here and just give us a basic spec rundown so folks can move on to argue about what the technology will enable games to do.
 
It's admirable the effort some people are going to to hold on to that glimmer of hope, despite an array of conventional logic saying the opposite.

Scorpio will be a beast, and I'll be there day one. It just won't be as much of a beast as you all hope, I think.

At this point I pretty sure devkits of some point are available just because it isn't public knowledge doesn't mean it may/may not exist.

So when are we thinking MS will finally open up about Scorpio? Some kind of early one off event or maybe MS's Build conference or E3? For some reason I get the felling the earlier they talk about it, the bigger the leap is going to be considering how the PS4 Pro was handled.
 
Kind of wish Albert or Stinkles or Major would come in and drop a few key words to stir the pot. Would make things fun!!!!
 
Did Matt indicate he had dev kits? I thought what he said was more along the lines of communications from MS indicated something a certain way.

Yes but MS are not going to announce to the public when these will be available. This is not the kind of info console manufacturers tend to announce publicly. Point being we can never know when it's out unless there is a leak.

I mean case in point being Shinobi who iirc doesn't even work in the industry yet has accurately gotten info from different companies within it.

We don't know. Some think he is a dev but also randomly appears in sales threads, pretending to also have more knowledge than others on that regard.
In the end, he just states things without any proof and people just believe him because he seems to be an insider. And where that comes from, at least I don't know.
 
I think Scorpio will have Vega but it won't have Ryzen. I think the main reason will be price, looking at the early sample benchmarks Zen is basically Broadwell level IPC and 8-core Zen is not coming under $500.

Just for curiosity's sake: What data has Matt dropped in sales threads that seems like it would be an issue?
 
I remember reading that there was some paper by one of AMD's highest level graphics engineers describing a Zen APU with a big graphics chip alongside it due for 2017. Now obviously roadmaps can change, but this at least shows that this possibility was certainly in mind at AMD.

I don't expect Scorpio to possess any kind of HBM, and instead to have GDDR5/GDDR5X or something like that. Although if it potentially DID have HBM, that would actually free up a good bit of real-estate on the SOC for whatever that would be worth to Microsoft and AMD to look into. But then we also did see a shot of the Scorpio mobo at E3 last year, but I do wonder if that was just one of many potential designs, as opposed to anything that's anywhere close to being final. After all, we were literally an entire year and a half away from the thing's release when Microsoft showed us that.

I don't really see this as much a strong argument against the possibility, because, for one, Scorpio's version of Ryzen wouldn't be clocked nearly as high as the PC enthusiast class chip. Second, a company like Microsoft would likely not be paying $500 to get their hands on Zen. They will pay much less than what the average consumer would pay to get something of equivalent capability. Third, not only would clock speed possibly go down by a reasonable degree (it's a console after all), but you would possibly also be looking at decreased cache sizes, and potentially even the disabling of Simultanous Multi-Threading. Although, I really do think that if Scorpio does in fact end up with Zen, I also believe SMT is a strong possibility because I believe AMD will use SMT in all versions of Zen CPUs, minus the most ultra low power devices. I feel everything else, from laptops etc would come with SMT activated.

FYI, HBM is not on the SOC. It's part of a MCM with the SOC.
