Scribblenauts Preview/Impressions Thread - You will say "wow." (see post #217)

Yeah, I think they actually...made a Flash website that isn't laggy and doesn't SUCK. That in itself is a bit of an accomplishment.

Right you are. I was patiently waiting for this game until I saw the site, now I'm no longer patient. Argghh

Just a random thing: Went to play Scribblenauts at gamescom on Wednesday. I thought it was funny, that the person playing before me already typed in 'Keyboard Cat' and GAF :lol

Any chance of Scribblenauts being at Gameunicon?

Site is awesome. Can't wait to put my Scribbletar back on (I've decided that the best thing to do is put it on when I have the game in my hands)!

Too bad I can't have this too

I know, I know...I just want everything Scribblenauts:D

My Girlfriend and I are talking about that game extensively. Yesterday we made plans about the game where we would take one level to solve. Alternating turns and NO word used is allowed to be used again by anyone for that level (making a word list on paper). The first one to not come up with a valid word loses.
Oh btw its the first game which makes her smile thinking and talking about it before it has been released. The only games who got her previously smiling at all were Little Big Planet and Flower. But only while and after playing it.

Has anyone else made any plans on what to do with the game? besides playing normally of course. If I recall correctly a friend of mine mentioned that he wanted to solve every level with a dinosaur involved,if possible each level a different one.

I don't even think I'm going to play the levels when I first get it. I think I'll just summon different things in sandbox mode until I run out of words.

I'm gonna play it until i fell asleep crying for joy

It isn't a dictionary, but I read that it does contain a list of 700 very obscure words or so provided by the development team as well as help in getting through the different levels. I doubt that they will actually provide solutions or at least I hope they'll not do that.

I ended up preordering the guide. I won't use it for the walkthrough thing (obviously), but as it's the "official" guide it'll probably contain some cool obscure words/development info/etc.

Plus it was like 17 dollars with shipping on Amazon. Scribblenauts + guide = the price of a console game. Cheaper, actually, than a 360/PS3 game.

It says it includes 3 solutions plus one "obscure" solution for every puzzle. :P Just accept that some people want that, probably, or some people get stuck and want a guide on some puzzles.

As long as someone doesn't pirate the game, pirate the guide, solve every puzzle using the guide, and then spam the entire internet saying the game was too easy and short, I don't really care.

The guide might be important if it leaks before the game comes out :p

Most sites say that it's coming out the same day as the game, but I've seen a few that have a release date of "09-08-2009", which makes me wonder if we'll end up getting virtually all the level info a whole week before the game ships.

If the journalist release ROM hasn't already leaked, I imagine it will leak early. I'm guessing the actual DS game ROM will also leak early, since as far as I know that's how it works for any DS/GBA whatever game for the past several years. I wouldn't be surprised if the game guide PDF also leaks early given that even stuff like Harry Potter ended up pirated beforehand so people could read it without buying, or try to spoil it.

In short, people having solutions is the least of our problems. :( If the guide comes out early there's no reason for YOU personally to read it if you want to be surprised by levels.

Do you really want to use that game guide? Serious question Oo
I mean isnt the fun finding your OWN solutions? Although its nice to have some obscure word list but I will definitely make my own.
Oh and maybe we should make an official Scribblenauts word list thread including pictures of all words.
Hell lot of work though I'd imagine.

I lol'd when I heard about the strategy guide, are some people's imaginations really that terrible that they have to use a guide to play it?

I agree that a guide for this game would totally defeat the purpose. The harder the puzzles the better, and I am counting on some really difficult stuff to be in there keeping me up at night. However, the guide can probably help my 7 year old and I can keep the poster.:D

I really can't see any of the puzzles in Scribblenauts being difficult on their own. I mean anybody can just hop on a T-rex and rampage through the level, I'd think the challenge would come from how imaginative the player is =P
I can't wait to see how many ways people come up with to get the star out of the tree that aren't "ladder","lumberjack", or "beaver" :lol

the scribblenauts booth was pretty cool at gamescom, it's just too bad i didn't have much time to wait, i really wanted to play it though, grrr! Can't wait for september 15th :D

Jackson personally posted here that some of the puzzles are going to make people cry and curse him, they'll be so hard. :lol And it was just a couple of days ago that someone posted in this thread saying that even some of the earlier puzzles were harder than they expected when they tried it at Gamescom, because of limitations on items (like fuel limits for flying, or whatever). So, I think there will still be some challenge, to go along with the crazy imaginative things you can do. :)

Come back to the thread on September 16.

What if you could do this shit in LittleBigPlanet?

Totally different. Scribblenauts is awesome because you can summon literally everything. But you summon a certain form. There are certain variants but in the end when you summon a "car" it will always be the same.
Little Big Planet however gives endless possibilities on how to design things. No ones "car" in Little Big Planet does exactly look the same.
Wouldnt make any sense whatsoever to have these systems in the other game. They are perfect for what these games are aiming.

Later in Europe =( I probably shouldnt look into this thread when most Gaffers already have it and keep posting awesome solutions to even more awesome level. I probably will anyhow. Sad so sad.

I sure hope not. If you use a guide for this game, you have no imagination at all.

You can't hop on a T-Rex. It's not a friendly animal.

Huh, well I guess I just made myself look like an idiot =(
That's great news though, I really should hang around NeoGAF more often...

I love how the trailer makes fun of all the "WHAT GAME OF THE SHOW ARE U SERIUS ITS NOT EVEN GOD OF WAR 3 OR MODERN WARFARE 2" rage.

Also, did I dream at some point or is the US version confirmed to be multinlingual ?

Most NA games are multilingual these days.

Yeah, I've been devouring every bit of media about this game, but I draw the line at that one fan site. That's just a bit too...comprehensive for my tastes.
Nicely done site for those who don't mind that though.

So, finally got to pre-order it from the GameStop near where I'll be living in two weeks.
I say I'm pre-ordering Scribblenauts, and the guy just smiles and goes "Yeah, looks like a fun game, doesn't it"

yeah, the gamescom booth was awesome! (Looks smaller in the pic than it was!)

Scribblenauts was even on the title of the official gamescom magazine on day 3 (different cover every day)!
