Greatness is back!

"Throes of the Watchmaker" returns to one of the most intriguing characters encountered in Sea of Stars' main adventure—the genius inventor known as the Watchmaker, architect of the Clockwork Castle and creator of Wheels, a tabletop pastime enjoyed throughout Sea of Stars' world. The downloadable content explores a fascinating invention by the Watchmaker, the miniature clockwork world of Horloge, a land threatened by a cursed carnival. Zale and Valere must adapt to Horloge's peculiar rules to fully realize their mastery of Sun and Moon powers, the abilities they've refined since the beginning of Sea of Stars' central journey to stop the Fleshmancer with Eclipse Magic.

This post-game bonus adventure downloadable content is designed around a self-contained progression loop featuring completely new classes, skills and combos to master for Zale, who trades his signature sword to become a skillful juggler, and Valere, who sets aside her trusty staff to dazzle as an acrobat. Throughout "Throes of the Watchmaker," the duo fights alongside a new playable party member in Artificer, a mechanized, laser-wielding sharpshot.

I liked this game quite a bit, but the ending was so shit that thinking back on it now I just think of the game's shitty ending. It's the thing I remember most about it. So, honestly, I'm not that thrilled to return.

The default ending is bad but the true ending is alright -- they should've just gone with the true ending and not made you do a bunch of extra to get it. You don't even get to fight the real final boss in the default ending!

Was this a Kickstarter goal?
I enjoyed the game but after 2 years I'd rather wait an extra year or 2 for a sequel instead of some super late DLC .

I'm still salty that the true ending of the game isn't locked behind some cool side quest, optional boss or decision you make through the story, but rather depends on you finding all the annoying collectibles.
I also ended up watching it on Youtube.

Also, not sure if the plans changed at some point but sounds like this DLC is only accessible from LATE game (like, right before the final boss late), so hopefully you didn't delete your save if you don't want to play through the whole game again...

How was it? I didn't hear a lot of good things about it, mostly about story/characters. Just looking at the pixel art makes me want to play it anyway though. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Well I did 💯 Percent the game, so it's obvious I loved the game. The game does have it's issues but so far it's the only Western "JRPG" that I loved. The gameplay, graphics and music are the standouts in regards to Sea of Stars. Also the Minigame Wheels ROCKS.

I'm getting that Clar Obscure game next month so hopefully I enjoy it as much as I do Sea of Stars. I call Chain of Echoes: Boring Echoes

I also loved Sea of Stars and did not like Chained Echoes, and will confirm to another person with good taste that Clair Obscur is indeed very awesome.

Keen, I struggle to convince any of my mates to play co-op, been so long for me to go back to the game now but if i can convince someone else then it could be a fun time, theDLC looks great though.

Just a great game overall, great Soundtrack too

I call Chain of Echoes: Boring Echoes

It's a good game, although I liked Chained Echos better and maybe I'll come back to it one of these days. If you haven't played it, its an easy recommendation.

Still need to buy the physical PS5 version of it, alreqdy own it on Steam but I'd like to honor the game with a platinum as well. I loved the 16-bit artstyle, the battlesystem and the characters.

I'm playing this right now actually. Fun game. Just got to Brisk. Really enjoy the art style and music. As a teenager/early 20s I would have bounced off this game because it wasn't edgy or "mature" enough like FFVII or Xenogears. As a 43 year old I love its charm.

My friend you have not scratched the surface of the awesomeness that is this game. Enjoy.

If you really care about how it was written, as in you are interested in writing, I highly recommend this video. I have posted it before because he did a really good job breaking things down (It's not very positive):

I heard that this was boring when it came out and it being boring was my biggest worry about the game so I skipped it and never looked back.

Is it not boring?

I loved Chained Echos.

Like the video above, the term "bland" was bandied about. I noticed it did have impressive user reviews on Playstation store.

jshackles jshackles that's me and TLOU2.

It's definitely not boring.

Just look at that weirdo in the thumbnail and decide if you should take his advice, or the advice of me, a cool guy on the internet with impeccably good taste that says you should play it.

I liked it a lot less vs Chain Echoes. I found the combat repetitive, animations during combat a bit slow and story having some issues.

It's not a bad game by any means, but not a great one. Chained Echoes is IMO.

The story in this DLC is completely incomprehensible gibberish. Someone doesn't have a real name so let's go inside the clock so this other person can what? Can't fight unless you act like you're in a circus? What the fuck.

I love it though. Lots of nice new art assets, animations, animated cutscenes and battle moves.

What the hell on this story though

Dang they keep updating updating this game. I need to get back on it, I haven't played it since I beat the base game last year.

On r/JRPG someone made a damage control post defending the story/writing/characters, saying that it's a game for kids like Pokemon and Golden Sun.

That's when it went from a "maybe" to "hell no" for me.

This game was always average at best. I bounced off the dlc real fast. Everything hits like a truck, my attacks seem weak as hell and i have no idea what the timing is on the new attacks, and all the enemies special attack locks are hidden now.
