Sword of the Sea (Recommended, Skill Up) - out 8/19

Been pretty excited for this but disappointed in the short length... I don' have PS+ so need to decide if it's worth it when I see the price tomorrow. I know the devs games are all pretty and short, but I was kinda hoping for at least a 7-8 hours, not a 2-3.

OC and MC scores are looking good, so I think I'm going to give it a try since it's also dropping on PS+ extra.

Man, these short games rock, boom and you are done, when it goes over 5 hours it changes the nature of it.

I'm kinda burnt out on this genre of games where you glide around to make the environment beautiful. Felt like it peaked with Flower and everything else is the same old wine in a new bottle. It looks fantastic though. May give it a try on PS+ Extra.

If this is multiplayer like Journey a shorter length will do it wonders. Replayability baby!

I'd look for some raw footage, watch gameplay, and come to your own decision from there. If it looks fun and up your alley, bite, if not, maybe wait or don't. Definitely seems like one of "those" games. I feel like many will love it and others won't care for it, but that's pretty standard, lol.

Thanks man 💪

PS: I was pretty sure this was also coming to the lower tier subscription for some reason...
Yeah, I know where you're coming from. Tbh, I only have PS+ Premium because I'm game sharing with my big bro. I don't get much use out of it other than maybe trying/playing some of these day 1 releases like Sword of the Sea which I hope to make time for over the weekend. I think the last PS+ Extra game I've played was half a year ago, and it was that new episodic Don't Nod game set in 90s.

I'm currently playing Death Stranding 2, but my sis is playing the heck out of it. She's been highly anticipating the game ever since it was announced. She loves games like Journey & Abzu.

I'm looking forward to it.

Downloading it now from PS+ to try it out.
I keep coming close to buying The Pathless and then backing out.
Maybe this game will convince me to go through with it.

I played the first level. It controls well and the haptics are good.
I'm not that into these no combat type games but looking around the environment to solve puzzles feels like it's training me for Hell Is Us. So I might keep playing it.

Finished the first area. I'll preface these comments with the fact I'm in a gaming funk and I think 2025 is one of the worst years for games in recent memory. I loved Journey (the sand tech in Sword of the Sea is very similar) and have played through it multiple times. I liked ABZU, but it was more of a one and done experience for me. I'm not really feeling this game early on. The "gamey" elements just don't land with me (collecting gold polyhedrons to unlock moves, the trick system, scoring, collectables mostly only leading to more polyhedrons). The music isn't bad, but I don't really care for it either. If it weren't for the art style, I'd almost say this was another studio's attempt at aping Journey/ABZU and throwing in some JSRF for good measure. The visuals are very nice and it has nice use of haptics.

Yeah, I'm feeling a little of that, too. Kind of bored, wondering why I should bother.

On the plus side, it's mercifully short. I just rolled credits. I wouldn't recommend purchasing this. If you haven't played Journey, I'd recommend that instead. Same for ABZU. If you've played both of those, I'd recommend playing through Journey again instead.
