If the conservative guests on Fox News' "Hannity and Colmes" sound especially on-message, that's because they're being coached by the best:

Sean Hannity himself.

On the March 31 installment of the shouting-head show, the guests included two of the late Terri Schiavo's former nurses, Trudy Capone and Carla Sauer Iyer, arguing that their patient wasn't brain-dead.

Between commercials, according to an off-air audiotape obtained by investigative comedian Harry Shearer for last Sunday's episode of his weekly radio program, "Le Show," Hannity coached the women on exactly how to respond when liberal co-host Alan Colmes cross-examined them.

"Just say, 'I'm here to tell what I saw,'" Hannity can be heard instructing his guests. "No matter what the question, 'I'm here to tell you what I saw. I'm here to tell you what I saw.'"

Hannity adds helpfully: "Say, 'I'm not going to be distracted by silliness.' How's that? Does that help you? Look into that camera. Look at me when I'm talking."

On the air, Iyer performs beautifully. "I don't have any opinions or judgments. I was there," she declares

After the segment ends, Hannity gushes off the air to the nurses: "We got the points out. It's hard, this isn't easy. But you did great, both of you. Thank you, guys. Those nurses are powerful, aren't they?"

On his radio show, Shearer injected: "Yeah, especially when they do what you tell 'em to do. Very powerful when they follow instructions from the host!"

A Fox News flack didn't respond to Lowdown's detailed message yesterday.

Here's the audio: TEACH THE PADAWANS, SEAN... :lol

They actually got him on audio tape doing this? Journalistic integrity destroyed. :lol

He'll probably brush it off, but really, this destroys any flimsy facade of him being a "fair and balance" journalist.

 Is this for real? Hannity is a joke. He's a hypocrite and all he has to defend himself is that "If this happened to a liberal..............."

What integrity was destroyed? I think even the most foolish viewers would admit that they watch Fox news because it reaffirms their view points and doesn't try to challenge or inform the viewer. It's entertainment, and even I have to admit that guys like Hannity and O'Reilly are good showmen.

.....they would be ripped apart likewise." -- I don't think that's much of a defense, either.

This is like lawyers prepping witnesses. TV is pretty scary. ;)

Yes, but lawyers are meant to be prejudicial and make sure that only their own side gets out. News...not so much.

Hannity gets caught again. Needs to learn that all because you're on commerical break doesn't mean that you can't be caught on the feed off the satellites.

Wait, he calls himself a journalist?

No, but he lets some assume that he holds himself to the same standards. But he really doesn't, and he just backpedals away from whatever issue someone might call him on and moves on to the next talking point.

Who ever said he was fair and balanced? He's as partisan as they get. Fox doesn't pay him or Colmes to be talking heads. They want their opinions.

First tragedy, then farce.
here is what I want to know.. was Colmes there when it happened? Its bad as is, but if the liberal pundit is sitting there letting this happen, it seems MUCH worse. I dont watch the show (or at least havent in about a year) so I dont know their studio situation.. but it would be a riot if the guy who is supposed to balance out the show is letting this happen.

FoxNews in its oft repeated mantra.

That is where you're mistaken. Colmes was never, ever meant to actually balance anything, but merely provide the illusion that by being there the show is "balanced".

IIRC, during the whole Schiavo thing, Hannity was on location in Florida while Colmes was in the studio in NY. Not that it would matter anyway, Colmes is just a spineless lapdog for Hannity anyway, just to give them their "fair and balanced" illusion.

As I said, Hannity and Colmes is an opinion show. Hannity is conservative, Holmes is liberal. There wouldn't be much to talk about if they were both just talking heads, now would they? Now if you find an example of one of their talking heads coaching people on responses, then this thread would be newsworthy.

Come again?

If they were figuratively just talking heads, it's their job to talk.
Now, if they were literally talking heads (severed heads in jars), that would be a whole other story...
