Secret of Mana Remake (PC/Vita/PS4, February 15th, 2018) Trailer

I was hyped til I seen the screenshots. But I have such fond memories of the snes game that I'd still buy it for 10-15 dollars but no more.

How else should it look? It's a classically anime styled fantasy game from the 90s.
Well, the problem is, I like the original version more... And beside improving the 3-players gameplay (which was quite new back then, but also quite awful, since you basically had to fight without magic/items because the time stop was annoying as hell) and add orchestrated music - and I don't trust them to succeed in any of those - I can't really find a valid reason to play the remake over the original.

Well, they could add the removed parts because they couldn't get a sufficiently large cart, those being directed at Enix, if the story is true, but that won't happen either.

And I love Seiken, the second one especially.

Looks somewhat like the remake of the first game on mobile and Vita, with slight shift in art style to suit the sequel better, but with the same chibi look overall. Guess they couldn't charge the same price though so they changed the platforms around.

Like what the hell they'll announce this and confirm an English release right away but we beg for months for the freaking rom collection on Switch to get ported and no go? Really?

I guess I wouldn't be so annoyed if this version was also coming to Switch but that seems unlikely :/

Honestly really sick of the chibi artstyle that is literally used for everything now but the colorful tone does fit SoM well. I'm sure I'll end up buying this but I still want the SD collection on Switch too damn it.

The visuals remind me of that mediocre Symphonia sequel for Wii. Imagine taking one of the most gorgeous 16-bit games ever and turning it into...this.

I'm sorry, I mean emphasis on the VERY. You know how like you can even be watching an anime and go wow this girl is so anime. There's anime, and then there's anime. I don't know how I can be any clearer. I'm good at words.

Did you ever look at the box art, concept art, or manual for the original version of this game?

Thinking more about this, regardless of how it looks it really will depend on how it plays. The original game's hit detection wasn't perfect and easily could be improved upon but changing the whole game into 3D might make it even worse.

Avoiding Switch? Like 9 games so far from their list of announced or released games right?

Another thread derail discussing lack of a switch release. Not surprised.

I wasn't trying to derail and that wasn't my intent, just seems weird when many recent games have been getting announced for the Vita with no Switch version when Vita is basically dead. You would think they would go with a recent system instead to get better sales. Out of the third parties, I feel Capcom has supported the Switch the most (Could be wrong). Just my 2 cents.

They literally just announced a Dragon Quest Builders sequel on Switch not three weeks ago.

Edit: totally forgot about Builders. Dragon Quest at least gets Nintendo support. Still It just bothers me that a Super Nintendo remake is not on a Nintendo console. Also sorry to the people I have bothered.

Feels like they could have done a lot better visually on PS4 even at the 39.99 price point. Not really sure who this will immediately appeal to outside of hardcore fans but I assume the dev costs will be low enough to justify its existence.

Wow, they went and 3D'd it and gave it voice. I thought it would be just a simple redoing of the sprites and backgrounds. Looks cool.

They should ask Blizzard people how to do a proper remake. Looks very bad, and also very funny if the price from op is true.

Sorry to be against the grain but I loved the SNES version and am totally ok with how this is looking.

Only thing I don't like is the standard anime dubbing. I can only hope you get a subbed version.

Can't they just release an English version of the original on switch? I mean it's already available in Japan, just release it with an English translation and let me give you my money. Please?

VOICED CHARACTERS: That’s right, you heard Randi in the trailer and you’ll finally get to hear Randi, Primm, Popoi and many other characters talk and express themselves throughout their adventure!

To add to that, the game will have language options which will allow players to experience the game using Japanese voices and/or subtitles.

A remake in the style of the original art would be welcome, but this looks like trash. I'll be playing the original on my Super NES Classic.

Sony paying to keep games off a rival system is my guess. There the big kids in the playground this gen.
something is off here. As a household with both Vita and Switch I have aliances to no one.

If true then it's just sad.

Funny that it's not on a nintendo console. Lol

Nintendo got the SD collection, which made SE nice money since it's just a ROM collection.

My guess is that SE doesn't want to cannibalize those sales yet. Hopefully, that SD collection can be localized. M2 did a great job there.

Should we expect any gameplay updates or changes?

I would feel like you would HAVE to change spell casting so it no longer freezes the action ingame

EDIT: oops look like online isnt a thing

I guess it will play identically?

Ooh, always wanted to play this, this was super rare in the UK (I honestly didn't realize it got released here). Got the feeling I'm in for a bit of a treat even if this isn't the best way to play it.

I think logically it would be better to go with a Switch version just because how well the system is doing. I own a Vita myself but I only use it for PS1 classics (memory cards too expensive for bigger size) and a few games. I think they don't even sell Vitas anymore in most stores, which was the point I was initially trying to make. So the market will most likely go to the PS4 and Steam versions. I myself would probably get the Vita version depending on the size of the game, otherwise I might just skip it and get it on Steam.

so JP VA is in? this makes it even better. just need physical version now and we have the perfect package. or just a confirmation that the JP is multilanguage.

Holy shit its 40$

For that?

Okay nevermind, screw the artstyle and possible combat problems that price is insane. It looks like an iOS game or a cheap Vita game. Also its a remake of just one freaking game. No way am I paying 40$ for it if it doesn't have any new content.

Digging the announcement. I own the Adventures of Mana remake on Vita and was never crazy about the graphically style. Was hoping it would be different for this remake, though I'll support it anyways.

Once it's on sale. $40? Can wait a bit.
