Ask yourself, did the Romney campaign seem especially competent in the waning weeks of the campaign? Did they execute any particularly timely location-based responses to Obama's campaign?

This sounds like a case of a guy wanting to get his dick wet, not some sort of political skullduggery. I'm not usually one to call for someone to get fired, but this sounds like a perfect case of someone, perhaps multiple people, getting fired. Along with the other lapses, the secret is that the Secret Service is not very good at their primary role and the program needs serious re-evaluation.

Oh agreed, I don't think the Romney camp was in the wrong and agree this was a Secret Service member trying to flirt by flaunting his importance.

IIRC, hasn't alcohol been involved in some of the other indiscretions that have plagued the Secret Service? I wonder if there is a culture of heavy drinking in the SS that goes along with boredom, long hours of being on the road, too much time spent in hotels, etc.

My wife worked in the administration office of a hospital that First Lady Clinton came to visit, and she had to coordinate everything with the Secret Service. Another security detail took over for the next leg of the trip while her team spent the night in town before heading back to DC. We went drinking with them, and they pounded booze until closing. Those guys could drink, and this was at a party school.

It's amazing how the government manages to maintain the image of being frighteningly powerful and manically incompetent at the same time.

They should start paying taxes to Hollywood.

When I was younger, I would somewhat buy into some conspiracy theories based on the assumption that the government was competent but nowadays, I just assume everybody's incompetent.
