Far from it. These things are fun and sell pretty well iirc.

So?
I don't care how much these things are going to sell. Going from a producer of highly original and absolutely brilliant pieces of software to a copy-cat is quite a leap.

It will be a seller for sure, however I think that the stylus is what makes this game so good and worth while on the DS.

It's not like that leap happened with this game you know. Sega has been making crappy titles for years now, and this is most certainly not a new low. It's fun and not yet available on PSP afaik. The development costs are very low, and therefore Sega will make mucho money with this one. They can then use that money to make another one of those "highly original and absolutely brilliant pieces of software" which, once again, will sell like crap on a stick.

I must admit, I'm confused as to what you are trying to imply.

A brief history lesson: Sega makes first 3D polygon fighting game, Namco makes their own and releases it a few months afterwards (after poaching some of the VF team). Sega makes 3D polygon light-gun game, Namco makes their own and releases it a few months afterwards. Equally, arcade music games with instruments are popular (Drummania, Guitar Freaks), so Namco make their own (Taiko).

They're really not the amazingly original company that some people think them to be (bar maybe the Katamari team).

Why do you think that is?

Just because it hasn't been done before doesn't mean it isn't gonna sell smartass. If Sony's gonna sell a Nintendogs or Advance Wars clone tomorrow It'll sell bucketloads. I haven't seen a decent 3d RPG or 3D fighter on PSP either. Your telling me that's because it won't sell or they're just flat-out bad ideas?

Yeah! Goddamit, Sega! Return to making the absolutely brilliant software you used to

ok wait, sure there are exceptions but surely if you expand on your established series
gcVirtuaQuest.jpg

... ok, stop it Sega, and how about just using the good characters that were in the good games you used to make and updating

Y'know, maybe some easy money isn't a bad idea after all.

That wasn't my point (although I do have my doubt that this will sell). My point was, that the reason why these games aren't yet available for PSP is because Nintendo first had the idea to adapt the franchise into video games. Which is why people are accusing Sega of being a copy cat. Which you don't seem to get.

Actually Dog$ I meant the (late) saturn and the DS era.

Ofcourse they can make some easy-money, my problem is that they could also throw in a couple of original while they are at it. I'm surprised that they even released Project Rub as I thought a Pokemon dash Sonic was more in line with their current efforts.

Moving into the same genres as a competitor is hardly anything new for Sega or for any other developers for that matter. Someone was bound to make this kind of game for PSP, let's hope it's good.

And Nintendo are having a nice little success with their Dog's Life copy. Well, maybe not the exact same thing but the idea is the same.

I didn't deny Sega was a copycat. I was just replying on Kroole who said this was a new low for Sega. It's far from it really. It's a copycat game absolutely. But it looks like they didn't screw this one up. And it's gonna sell as well so that's another plus.

People should stop thiking that Brain Training and Dogs games didnt exist before NDS :lol

Exactly, and isn't this godamn good business sense from Sega... you know, to release a game that could actually sell in decent numbers as they are... you know, a business after all.

I don't see the problem, sales of this could fund bigger and better games.

:lol :lol :lol :lol at the boxes of other recent original Sega software.

I really think that they should just get Shenmue III out the door, sell off the IP, and then Sega should fold them and just stay a Pachinko company.

*coos at his dreamcast a little... "it's okay, buddy"*

Isn't there a line of books called Brain Training? I'm sure I saw those in Tokyo being sold next to the DS games. It's not like Nintendo invented them or something.

As usual, Nintendo's an innovator, not an inventor. They didn't come up with the concept of "Brain Training" but they were the only company with the foresight to apply the concept to dedicated game machines. And as usual, they're the ones reaping the rewards of that progressive software application.

There have been a lot of dogs, to be sure, but I really don't know there are more than a few 3rd party publishersthat could compete with their best work.

wonder how it would work?

I mean it'll work but the thing that made Braintraining etc so fun was having to draw lines from one point to the other, or say the colour of something when the word was written in a different colour etc etc....

it was all in the interaction.

The funny thing about Outrun 2 is that it took forever to grow on me. It's a good arcade game but that doesn't appeal too to many people anymore. There have been some good games from Sega this gen but I think they've put out more stinkers than anything else.

Beach Spikers was pretty awesome too and let's not forget that F-Zero GX is probably one of the best racing games ever made.

Not to mention:

Sega still rocks in my book... sometimes.

They've always released a fair share of stinkers along with their gems. I don't know why the perception of them seeems to have shifted so much... I guess now that they don't have their own platform, their rabid fanbase has taken a hit, but I still can't ignore the intermittent awesomeness of Sega.

I think it has a lot to do with putting a lot of their stuff on the Xbox instead of other platforms who's userbase would be more welcoming to games like Jet Set Radio Future, Outrun 2, etc... Of course, this wouldn't be much of an issue if Sega went completely multiplatform.

Hate all you want, but this game has great boxart.

EDIT: ARGH. Beaten by Miburou while I was mocking those future derelicts.

Actually, here's Nintendogs (and Nincats) done by Sega on a portable (Game Gear) way before Nintendo. It's called Neko Daisuki.
The similarity is uncanny!

Brain Training or Doggy simulators may be invented by some company other than Nintendo, but Nintendo worked out everything like no other games company could. Brain Training on DS is more suitable for the elderly, for example, because they can just write down stuff and hold the DS like a book, while Brain Training on the PSP you have to use circle, square, x and triangle, which isn't as intuitive as writing it down or simply pointing and touching it with a stylus.

That looks pretty stupid. What the hell is the PSP going to be used for? Multiple choice input with the face buttons?

I liked the whole idea of applying yourself to the game with the DS versions. You could read into the microphone, draw answers, etc.
