"There's a pretty common trap that many game remakes fall into. People who remember the original games will hate all of the changes because they mess with the games' sense of nostalgia. People who don't remember the games will wonder how anyone could like the originals, because they've often been butchered beyond recognition. With Sega's atrociously bad remakes, both of these cases are as true as they've ever been. This compilation absolutely ruins the games it's trying to honor as "classic." With their pathetically outdated 3D performance, poor sound, and compromised gameplay, Sega Classics Collection is nearly impossible to enjoy. "

My favourite quote from the review, "Sega Classics Collection contains 10 classic Sega names, but zero classic Sega games." :lol

Hey, look! Another bad review!

Guys, this collection isn't that bad.

I'm having lots of fun with Fantasy Zone, Bonanaza Bros./Tant R, Alien Syndrome, Space Harrier, and Virtua Racing. Columns is...well, Columns. Golden Axe is pretty poor, and OutRun and Monaco are both love it or hate it.

If you like the original games, you'll like them in this collection as well. If you're a purist, and everything has to be arcade-perfect, then yeah, you'll have problems with this collection.

But the games play just as well, in some cases, *Better* than the originals.

Fantasy Zone, Bonanaza Bros./Tant R,Outrun, Space Harrier, Columns, and Virtua Racing Play like the original. THe game play is exact with tight controls. Now some of the graphics have been altered to polygons but they were all molded after the original sprites. Games like Alien Syndrome and Space Harrier look really nice. This collection has one of the best versions of Columns ever. Columns has two styles of play to choose from, the original and a vs style against the computer mode. Alien Syndrom is a blast to play, and I find it is better then the original. Yes Golden Axe is not the original and doesn't even try to be, but can be fun once you learn the differences and how to play it. People complain about slowdown, well the midway treasures had slowdown, and all we hear are praises for it. I believe if the games were in 2d sprites thier would be less bitching. People are being too harsh on this collection, or maybe they just want to hate on Sega, that seems to be popular these days. The only dissappointment for me is I wished they would have put in Afterburner 2 instead of Monaco GP.

Gerstmann strikes again, fresh off his SpikeOut monstrosity. He must've sworn a blood oath against Sega somewhere along the line...
Space Harrier now has some lock-on targeting, which basically makes the game more like Panzer Dragoon, but it's the addition of a rapid-fire button that sucks all of the challenge and fun out of the game
This is nothing new, it was in the Sega Ages version for Saturn, and in the Shenmue version as well, iirc.

Seriously.

A 3.2?

A frickin' 3.2??

I can't think of too many games I'd rate that low. MK Advance. Superman 64. Big Rigs maybe.

Did the reviewer even play the game? More importantly, does he remember how the original versions of the games play?

I like how they forget to mention a damn near perfect arcade port of VR... This port of VR is as close as we are ever going to get to the actual arcade.

If the arcade VR is measured as a 100, this is a 98.

*cries*

There's been so many SEGA classics threads and reviews...and I can't get ANY impressions of Virtua Racing with a FF wheel!

Looks like I might have to rent the game...it'll be the first game I've rented in over a YEAR. And it has to be a game that rated 3.5... :(

I have the original GT3 driving force wheel in a box in the garage...give me a few minutes.

VR fully supports the driving force wheel (the only wheel I own) It has limited feedback, you feel the rubber resisting the road, but that's it. It controls much closer to the arcade with the wheel. Using the gamepade the car turns a bit funny. Just make sure you have it plugged in to the right USB port.... :)

Speaking of VR I rented the game and had it stolen. That really sucked had to pay the video store 90 bones.

I won VR by being #1 in my Blockbuster store's Genesis competition way back when. :D

If they released Virtua Racing Classic for 10-15 bucks as a stand alone I'm confident that it would have received at least a 7.0 from most reviews. The problem here stems from the fact that it's called SEGA CLASSICS while firstly most are cheap lameass half-hearted knockoff low-budget "remakes" which are often worse than the originals with cheap looking updated graphics. What you present a product as to your customers actively changes their expectations. Here they are presenting what they came is a collection of Sega classics, when in fact it's a collection of crappy knockoffs of old classics along with Virtua Racing and *maybe* just *maybe* Fantasy Zone. That doesn't cut it. This is shit and 3.2 might indeed be too high, they shouldn't even have bothered reviewing it in fact, people should just start ignoring Sega completely until they recover from their game development diarrhea. That's the best medicine imo, just stop encouraging this shit. :D

since sega classics collections VR is 60 fps, has more tracks and cars, i'd say it would be at least a 110 if the arcade is 100

edit: i had no idea it supported the ff wheels. that is too freakin cool.
