So like...is there a comprehensive list of all the fan-made games on the Genny/Sega CD out there? I feel like I keep missing out on this stuff and it's time to start catching up.

Still waiting on my Pier Solar reprint, and I grabbed a couple of the early Sega CD releases. But I didn't get any of the Super Fighter Team releases, and I'm still deciding on It Came From the Desert and Project Y.

I'd like to know this too.

Oh god I'm so old.

It's like a binder that holds papers and stuff for school. The outside flap closes with velcro so you know it's legit.

Dunno dude I'm pretty fucking old myself (33 no less!) but somehow never came across one

Alright, we're just about the same. I don't feel so bad.

Maybe it's more of a US thing.

I'm 32, and I now know what is! Used a few of them back in the day, I'm from Norway though so the name of thing is new to me.

I've mostly gone by Watermelon (Pier Solar, Project Y) and Super Fighter Team (Beggar Prince, Legend of Wukong, Star Odyssey and Magic Girl). There's also Good Deal Games, who released a bunch of Sega CD stuff (some alternate region releases as well as previously unreleased games) and 1985 Alternativo (which has a new shooter on the way).

Oh, and Watermelon and Cinemaware should be offering preorders on It Came From the Desert soon.

That's the main stuff I've been tracking.

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
Put in Shadow Dancer and made it further than I ever had before - stage 4-1. Great game, that doesn't really get much love (to be fair its not on Shinobi III's level).

I really love Shadow Dancer,
I think it's a better game than Revenge of Shinobi.
I don't think it gets a lot of love because of its title. people seriously forget its part of the Shinobi series.

While I love shadow dancer, I'm sad we never got a home version of the Arcade Game

The arcade game was really nice. Nice big sprites.

It was ported to the Master System. It was a down port, though. It was also ported to European PCs--Amiga for one.

I guess you like bad games? Sega did us all a HUGE favor (just like with Eswat) and gave us a vastly superior home release to the crap arcade game.

Shadow Dancer is a very good game but let's not get crazy.

Shadow Dancer is my favorite Shinobi game on consoles. Fantastic classic!

Shinobi 3 is DA best, but Revenge is very slowly paced, and there's a lot of awkward detection issues between the player character and platforms, obstacles and enemies that lead to a lot of cheap deaths. Shadow Dancer is a much more polished title than Revenge of Shinobi, and has aged better due to its simple arcade style.
Also Revenge is kind of ugly compared to the more colorful Shadow Dancer and the beautifully layered sprite work of Shinobi 3. There, I said it.

It sounds like you're playing it wrong; I've never experienced any of that and I've played throught it many a time. Like I said Shadow Dancer is a good game so I can understand your appreciation for it but Revenge is a classic. The sequel just upped the action sequences and not for the better so I can understand your preference based on your taste.

I haven't played Mega Drive Shadow Dancer, but Revenge is my favorite, followed by the original Arcade Shinobi, then 3.

Revenge is the best to me as it holds the nostalgia card. I only got to Shinobi 3 recently. Shinobi X on Saturn is another I only just got to and wow. What a game. I have fond memories of the Master System game too just because it was the first I played. I haven't play Shadow Dancer in forever and I forget what I made of it. Might grab it from Ebay

Someone was selling his Mega Drive collection on a craigslist-like platform and I noticed Ristar in there. Contacted him and asked if I could buy it separately, and he agreed. Wants 10 bucks for it. I started to think it may go sideways and then he told me he'd ship first and I should pay when it arrives, presumably on Friday. Huh. Should I be so lucky...?

Just beat Streets of Rage 2 for the first time. I've tried playing it before but would always get bored with its combat because I prefer the 3rd game a lot more.

But, aside from the slowness (made worse if you pick Max), I really got into it. My only complaint with it otherwise is that it seems like when you do a basic combo the game slows down and the combo rarely finishes before the A.I. starts sneaking in hits. This is more noticeable when you're towards the end which leads me to believe that the devs purposely made the A.I. interrupt the combo at later levels. That carnival level that rips off H.R. Giger was very out of place too.

Max is pretty much the de-facto character if you're playing solo because once he grapples a dude and gets him in a head-lock it does massive damage. And his running special does big damage and is obscenely good against certain annoying bosses (particularly the jet pack dudes).

Very solid Beat 'em Up that's held up well.

3rd game is insane on Hard, but I want to do it on Hard for the best ending some day.

Dude, wat. I LOVE that part. I love Japanese-developed games from that era would do stuff like that all the time just because they wanted to, that "anything goes" attitude about level design. If something was currently inspiring the art team, they'd try to sneak it in, no matter how illogical it was, it keeps things fresh and interesting, and keeps players on their toes.

Haha I wish I had that S&K case. Mine is long gone, not sure about elsewhere but in the UK it came in some rubbish cardboard box, it really didn't last long and it's the only game in my collection that I don't have the case for.

S&K had a cardboard case in all territories, even Japan. I lost mine as well, so I hacked up an empty clamshell case to fit the unusually shaped cart and printed out a new cover. No fucks given.

Ahh thanks, I didn't know that. I might have to look into something like that, for some reason it really winds me up seeing the cart just sat on top of the other games.

The Aussie distributor did a run of S&K (and a bunch more games, mostly two-cart compilations) in what were clearly just repurposed VHS cases. Oh, Ozisoft!
