PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SEGA PARTNERS WITH SILICON KNIGHTS TO
CREATE NEXT GENERATION CONTENT

Acquisitions of Western Content Prime SEGA for Growth

SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON (March 23, 2005) – SEGA of America, Inc. and SEGA, Europe Ltd. today announced an agreement to acquire and publish next-generation game content from Silicon Knights, the Ontario, Canada-based development team responsible for such hits as Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, and Eternal Darkness. The partnership brings SEGA more Western-developed content in preparation for high-growth opportunities presented by next-generation hardware platforms.

Under the terms of the worldwide exclusive deal, SEGA and Silicon Knights will collaborate on creating a new franchise for next generation console systems. This agreement, along with recent partnerships with publisher, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (project: The Matrix Online); developer, Monolith Productions (project: Condemned); and the acquisition of esteemed developer, The Creative Assembly (project: Spartan: Total Warrior) continues to highlight SEGA’s emphasis on the Western market.

“We intend to establish SEGA as a leading publisher on the next generation of game hardware and only the highest possible quality of Western-developed content will get us there,” said Simon Jeffery, President and COO, SEGA of America. “Silicon Knights has a rich history of developing great games that push hardware technology, so we expect this relationship will result in a powerful, new, and highly commercial franchise.”

“Silicon Knights believes that the next generation systems will be the catalyst propelling video games as the dominant form of entertainment in this century,” said Denis Dyack, President of Silicon Knights. “We are very excited to collaborate with SEGA on a next generation project because we share a vision – to take the medium of games to new heights and move people as never before.”
SEGA will manage all marketing and distribution activities and work in hand with Silicon Knights to supervise ongoing game development. Both companies have decided not to release product, platform, or release details at this time.

I don't think I even care anymore. Dyack is so full of shit it isn't even funny. Sounds like fucking Morpheus but only has created subpar games lately. Whatever happened to IGN visiting SK? Didn't they have the visit at all or something? Cause I never heard of it again.

Man, I fucking knew this was going to happen. I don't know how, but I knew it.

Anyway, though I thought Eternal Darkness had some horribly shitty design problems, I fucking loved the presentation, and I'm one of the few that really enjoyed Twin Snakes, too. Go Sega. Sega is kicking ass lately. It is as I forsaw!

SEGA: We take Nintendo's sloppy seconds!

I have to say that after replaying through both Twin Snakes and Eternal Darkness within the past 2 weeks had I'd known this I would've called Sega up so I could talk some sense back into them.

I loved MGS: TTS, but after reading all the impressions on this board I hardly think any of the loving can be credited to SK. I hated Eternal Darkness btw. I tried so hard to like that game after all the whoring it received, but I just couldn't get into it. It seems like Sega is really trying to patch itself up in the west lately though. You can argue about the quality of the games SK has put out lately. But they sure do get a lot of praise from the critics it seems.

Sega has franchises like Sonic, Shinobi, Phantasy Star, Shining Force, Virtua Fighter, Daytona, Sega Rally... they need to patch up their core Japanese properties and get some real management in Japan before they go teaming up with shitty overrated Western developers to make shit games that won't sell jack anywhere in the world. Their brand management is atrocious; they've been wasting or outright trashing all of their core IPs over the past few years. When will the bleeding stop?

I seriously hope before it's too late, because the videogame world without Sega just won't be the same.

I wonder what David Rosen thinks of all this...

I'm sorry but I think it's way too late. It's been way too late for about a year or two now. :(

I want a Skies of Arcadia sequel! :(

Buh? What dimension are you living in? And can you get me an invite?
Hey, Phantasy Star Universe, their aquisition of Creative Assembly, and their partnership with Monolith and now Silicon Knights are a pretty impressive string of announcements as far as I'm concerned (though I love PSO, CA, Monolith, and like SK, to be fair), especially for a company that most considered or still consider to be ran by untamed simians.

Plus, I'm a Sega fanboy still holding on to the dream, so hey. :p

The only game this generation I've liked from Sega is Panzer Dragoon Orta...and didn't they lose the team behind that game?

interesting. I wonder what Xenon game Sega/SN has planned...

Somehow I get the feeling that Microsoft is behind all of this.

Microsoft to Sega: "We want an exclusive game for Xenon's launch"

Sega not wanting to devote any of their own resources...enter Silicon Knights.

error... does not compute...

Well it's known that SK will release a new titel this fall. On which platform is not official though, but everything points at Xenon. If it's Too Human or something completely new we don't know of will probably be clarified at E3.

"error... does not compute..."

Why not?

It's like Sega's trying really, really hard to get people to feel sorry for them. And did I miss a memo? When did SK confirm the existence of Xenon titles in development?

"Goodbye Sega, now give me back the rights to all the sweet ass games I made for you."

Because they're really slow at releasing stuff. You really think they're going to have something ready this year for a next gen system when full dev kits aren't even out for any of them?

They have not confirmed that [yet]... but Matt-IGN has been hinting at Xenon all along.

'Dear Lord. Let it end!

Factor 5 and Silicon Knights are 100%, totally, definitely, absolutely, undeniably, and completely NOT working on Nintendo Revolution software.

NOT. NOT. NOT!

NOT!

When they announce Xenon games, will you believe it then? Or are their Xenon projects just cover stories for future Revolution games?

Matt'

They should be able to have a titel ready for Xenon launch, or at least a couple months after. After the split Nintendo I'm pretty certain MS approach them and asked them to develop Xbox titles. But as the Xenon is on the way I bet they ported that stuff to Xenon. Remember that thing Allard said, about how easy it was to port Xbox stuff to the Xenon?

I've also heard that when Nintendo dumped Leftfield, a good amount of the Courtside team jumped ship for Visual Concepts.

Then again, Nintendo hired Inexile (who Sega dumped from ESPN/WSB) to make a baseball game recently. :)

That better not be in reference to them also teaming up with Monolith or I'm gonna have to jump through my monitor and open up a can of whoopass. :)

Sega is doing everything NIntendo should do as a console maker.

I love how people call ED a shitty game. It's clearly their taste that's shitty :lol

It has 91% over at Gamerankings and has been awarded with tons of GOTY awards. If it isn't your cup of tea, okay fine dont play it, but dont call the game or the developer shitty just because you didn't happened to like it.

I didn't like KOTOR, so KOTOR is a shitty game and BioWare is shitty overrated company. DIE! :insert you know what:
