SEGA should buy the Gauntlet IP from Midway

I say so since I could see SEGA producing some great arcade games off it(not say that Midway's arcade were bad, especially since they was the best unlike the console versions). If you ask me,I could see the synergy between SEGA-AM2 and Gauntlet as it would be the type of game that match thier style.

Maybe the old SEGA but they seem to be long gone.

Midway just showed a preview of the latest Gauntlet and it looked FAR cooler than the DC versions.

Actually, the arcade versions were much better than the consoles versions(psx,n64,DC,PS2,GCN and Xbox). The consoles versions suck and its why I avoid them.

have you seen the last IP they got? Tenchu...showing their skills there

Sega should do a lot of things, but buying the Gauntlet IP is at the bottom of that list. "Making games that don't suck" should be much closer to the top.

What? They already have Golden Axe, why would they need the Gauntlet IP? They could make a Gauntlet style game with Golden Axe characters for all the difference it would make. The Gauntlet IP means precisely shit to the majority of todays gamers.

Actually,Fromsoftware owns the IP,SEGA merely serves as a distribution front for them(since FS don't have any international distro). Very much Otogi.

golden axe with the champions of norrath engine -> yeah that would be good sales. you should become sega president, so they could start making good games instead of shitty ones.

another thing:

why are`nt there any good sega racing games on ps2?

Virtua Racing? :) And where is Sega Rally? How long ago was it that the PS2 screens were shown?

Sega has really gone downhill this gen IMO. I mean, there are games from them I've really enjoyed/loved like Jet Set Radio, VF4, Outrun 2, Kunoichi, etc., but then there's so much crap , like recent release Project Altered Beast, and don't even get me started on their shitty PS2 "remakes" of older games...99% of them suck so bad. :/

Phantasy Star Online > Gauntlet

They need to make that game free again. Monthly fees for a Diablo-esque game? Bleh

christ, i hope we don't see any more games on that engine this gen, although i know we will. one of the reasons i'm looking forward to next gen is that i hope it will force snowblind to make a new engine.

I don't care if Sega buys the Gauntlet IP from Midway or not. Sega should improve their own somewhat similar game, Gain Ground. And I am still waiting for a proper port of the original game.

* Genesis conversion not good enough (either are any other conversions)
* PS2 remake not as good as original game

There is a write up about the new Gauntlet in this months GI. They added online and Diablo style rare items. It looks alright.

Nothing wrong with the engine, just Snowblind's ability to use it more creatively.

sure, but that is precisely why i'm looking forward to its death. either nobody is willing to put forth the effort, or the engine's too hard to deal with -- probably some of both, from what i've heard/gathered.

impreza, is that you? This thread is very impreza-esque. And the title fits, by the way.

Anyway, Sega should buy nothing except for a clue.

yeah - here could come in sega with its creativity and cool character art.

It's sad, but when I read the title of this thread, I pretty much thought what everyone else has already posted. :( Sega use to be one of my favorite developers, and their rich catalog of games shows their history, but they really have fallen hard. Anymore, I see them as just a shell of their former self, trying to re-gain lost glory off some of their classic titles. (Outrun, Altered Beast, etc.)

On the other hand, the new Gauntlet game looks very interesting. Could be a blast to play online and Midway seems to have it headed in an interesting new direction. I think it's safe to say that Sega shouldn't come anywhere near this title.
