Sega wtf (really short Shadow The Hedgehog impression).

I was in a Virgin Megastore today, and I was strolling past the gaming/electronic/vinyl section to see what they had. I passed three kids, no older than 13 maybe, clutching a copy of Shadow for the Xbox, and I was shocked as they were gushing at the sight of the game. I'm sure they (by their parents) will feel just fine about the game's direction, but I was slightly perturbed myself.

Let 'em learn life's lessons on their own time!

Is this a gameplay direction your talking about?

Someone please spoil this story for me becuase I know I will not be playing...

It's just a big ol' mess is what it is.

Story so far; Shadow apparently lived through the falling to earth sequence seen last on Sonic Adventure 2, and he still can't remember jack shit. He's being all hardcore angry emo when suddenly black aliens (that sorta look like the ones from Alien Front Online (Dreamcast)) land in Westopolis and start blowing things up. He doesn't care though and starts to walk away when the head black alien, Black Doom, assisted by his eye, Doom Eye (I think), addresses Shadow by name and tells him in a way that it is his destiny to collect the SEVEN Chaos Emeralds and bring them back to him so they can complete their ultimate mission or some other. Oh yeah, also they hold the key to Shadow's lost memories, natch. Shadow ruminates for a minute, and decides to go after the Emeralds for his own purposes (memories).

Meanwhile Sonic and friends are Sonic and friends, Robotnik is Robotnik, Commander (that human guy) is some top brass dick who hates Shadow and wants him dead, and the President says he will not bow down to Terrorists. Yes. He says that.

Gameplay? Take all that was good in the Sonic/Shadow stages of Sonic Adventure 2, fuck them all up and twitchify them, then add guns with jack shit for aiming and no way to distinguish between good guys and bad guys so in a heavy firefight you might end up hitting a soldier when you wanted to hit a black alien and vice versa. Oh and melee weapons have an ammo count.

And the music so far sucks. That's the bad thing above all others. SA2 had rocking tunes in some places, and SA1 had even more, but THIS game...

GOD. Back to DQVIII.

That happened to me, some kid was running around ravenousley at a Wal-Mart electronic's center wanting to get Shadow for GCN after pointing the XBX version to his friends (They were at the XBox area)

Then they went over to the GCN area and Shadow was...

sold out. They saved one brain.

However, 20 or so idiots bought that piece of shit.

Cool, does this mean i can expect to see Shadow the Hedgehog as a players choice title in a few months?

E.T. II. The entire market will now inevitably collapse as Gamestop management gets increasingly depressed by the tremendous influx of used copies of Shadow the Hedgehog on their shelves and decides to withdraw.

"There are good guys and there are bad guys." *turns page* "And then there's Shadow."

Come on, how can this game not kick ass? It's got my favourite gaming icon of all time (Shadow) and the more-edgy-than-me-cutting-up-the-slopes-on-ma-board 'tude that everyone loves.

I know Nintendo Power is generally considered a laughable source for reviews, but given all the bad press I've read so far on Shadow the Hedgehog even I was surprised that the "all new, tougher" NP gave it an 8.0. The writer even ended his review with "naysayers be damned". :lol

NP is odd in that they're usually a lot more forgiving with 3rd party games than 1st party, IMHO.

Yeah, they've always been pretty strict on the 1st party games, to be honest. One of the few review sources that didn't give Ocarina of Time a 10/10 rating. And they've gotten much more strict lately on them, I'd say.

what, are there white aliens that youre not supposed to shoot?

I think it's a clever move from SEGA to make sure you will buy futur Sonic games.
People will be so impressed by how much ANY futur Sonic game will be better that it will start selling again --- or maybe not :lol

Really? Because this is one of the worst games this year easily. And that's saying something.

Aww man, the music was the only thing I liked about it. Though mostly for the so-bad-it's-good factor, like most SA-era music.

I don't think it's that bad. Jun Senoue still delivers decently, but I do prefer his Heroes work thus far compared to Shadow.

You don´t get it...

This game IS gonna sell, no matter how crap it is. Lot of teens will look at the character and will say "cool" and will buy it, especially UK, where Sonic is still very popular.

Tou shouldn´t worry if you see it selling, it will save you pain.

listening the soundtrack of Sonic Rush, glad Naganuma wasn't wasted in this shit. Sonic Rush soundtrack rocks my world up and down one of the best soundtracks this year along with DQVIII and SOTC ya is that good.

ska cha cha!

You should tell them to get Sonic Rush instead.

It will sell about a million copies in the UK.

I took one for the team and bought the game [I'm a Sonic collector. I was able to get it cheap, and a got a free Sonic X DVD with it. Even so, being a Sonic fan is feeling a little mashocistic nowadays :|]

It's fully worthy of the 4/10's it's been getting. It's just such a mess of a game. Missions are pretty lame, any answers given to Shadow in the story are given as "Am I an android?" "Yes.", and that's about it.

The camera SUCKS, and is mostly due to poor level design. Like the second Digital level, theres a cylinder you have to walk around, and the camera doesn't lock itself into the best position, so you have to move the camera around itself.

The only good vehicle is the jumping legs, and that's only because they wanted to add them in. I got into the car, and just went "...What the fuck?" and jumped right back out. Homing attack only works half the time, and Shadow is so slippery that they've had to add edges to most areas to stop him from falling.

You get the feeling that with the problems that came up in design, instead of trying to fix them, they tried adding something else to make it different. The only reason why you lose 10 rings every hit instead of all is because the design is so bad that the game would be impossible without it.

And there is NOT enough CG. I've seen the CG for the intro, and one time where Eggman speaks of attacking, but other than that, nothing. You get in-engine cutscenes where all the characters look dead behind the eyes. The one cut scene where Shadow confronts a bunch of clones, well, the clones ard made out of 1/8th of the polygons Shadow is made out of. Looks TERRIBLE. Hell, Shadow has a circle for a Shadow himself.

Not as bad as Astro Boy PS2 though. Sonc Rush will save me!

Oh please, cry me a river. Every other company is allowed to sell shit games by the millions, why not Sega this one time. All the anti hype in this forum won't stop this juggarnaut of a game from selling, and I'm sure there's worst games out there. The whole cartoon 3D platform genre is lacking anyways and really needs a spark. I have my ideas so I know it can be done.

Its only now you figured out that it would be a good title? Heres a lesson, but games that try to bastardize GTA in some manner are never good. It shouldn't take a review to figure that out.

Level music isn't so hot but the vocal tracks (minus Powerman 5000's Almost Dead) are pretty good

So, he's an android? Anything else I should know before completely writing the game off?
