So learning that PSTV is a thing (about 4 months late) means I'm actually buying this now, providing the EU digital version works on it at least. Not sure whether getting the US version for an EU PSTV is an option.
I'm guessing this one by Tom:XSEED forum post confirms that the packaging isn't even done.
Just wonder how this'll affect GameStop pre-orders.The mock-up image on the website is still the only one we have, as we don't quiiiite have the finished LE in our hands just yet -- manufacturing is basically stretching to the last minute this time around (though I think we should be getting it any day now!).
Once we have it, we will most likely be plastering our Twitter and Facebook with photos, so fear not.
LMAO, is 10/14 actually another placeholder date?
If you mean the physical cart, assuming the U.S. version has PSTV support, you'd be able to play it without any DLC, meaning no outfits and more importantly, two characters would be unplayable. Nobody knows if you can use other region accounts on PSTV yet; AFAIK the Japanese Vita TV still only allows for Japanese accounts.
From what I heard, since the latest update, you can use US accounts on Vita TV's, you just can't access the PSN store yet since the one for PS TV isn't up. I'm not sure though.

That's the one. I'm guessing GS will move the date back.I'm guessing this one by Tom:

Judging on THAT post, we won't be seeing this game shipped out till the launch day. XSEED pls
That is a possibility, though we're trying to get it shipped out so retailers have it ON launch day. Whether or not we will be successful, though, is in the hands of the fates!

There are no delays, however, as far as I'm aware. Apologies for any contribution my words may have had to such rumors. I'm bad at keeping my mouth shut sometimes, as I'm sure you all well know.

Well that's good to hear, thanks for the response Tom. Do you know if you guys will be patching in PSTV support?
It won't be compatible right away, but it should be compatible shortly after release -- there were a few complications with this title that needed to be taken care of.
Akiba's Trip shooooould be compatible from launch, though. Keyword "shooooould."
(Partially because of the touchscreen puzzles, though, I'm afraid Ys Celceta will likely not be compatible at all until we're able to release the patch for it -- which we are looking into.)
-Tom
Sorry, didn't mean to imply that at all -- that was a hurriedly-typed response to a request for photos of the actual LE set, which we can't provide right now because we don't have any in the office yet to photograph.
We'll be getting them in well before the release date, however, as should most retailers. It's going to be tight, though, so if you want to avoid Murphy's Law and stave off disappointment, you may want to think of the release date we've listed as a ship date, NOT an in-store date. That's not to say some stores won't have it at that point, but there's no guarantee, so it's probably best to go into this expecting to pick up your copy the day after and just being pleasantly surprised if you get it the day of.

I don't mean offense, but this is full of contradiction and not very reassuring at all. Just sayin.
How so?
-Tom
I clarified above. In particular the "we will have them well before time, but don't have them yet" and its going on thursday. I worked at Gamestop, though it was 6 years ago or so and things may have changed but we got shipments from Gamestop warehouses, not directly from pubs so when you say you are shipping to retailers do you mean to the warehouses or is Xseed paying for the shipping to each individual stores? I can't see a small pub eating that type of cost over this. Like I said I understand your position and balancing act you have to play but from the evidence I wouldn't be looking for this on release day. i will still be buying it digitally so no harm no foul and i'm sure the LE's will still sell out.
I appreciate the response and I'm sorry, I didn't mean to incite panic. I appreciate you guys bringing this over. People who have played this game before -- does it play more like a musou or is it sort of like an action game in terms of depth? Can you give me some sort of gameplay impressions/comparisons? It'd really help me figure out if I'm going to throw money at XSEED next Tuesday!
There are alot more aerial combos going on in this game than your average Musou, and from what I've seen it seems to play more like a 3D freeroaming version of the 3DS gameplay which focuses on getting combos to knock enemies into the air and then performing aerial rave combos to build up your special meters. It's similar to Musou in it's basic combats, but it doesn't have the huge open field and multiple capture points/management that a Musou game has.
How deep is the combo system? I know I found myself wishing for a lot of things in DW8 that weren't there. I always say Yaiba is a musou with an action game's combat... if that's kind of what SK:SV is, I'm probably going to like it...
I explained a bit more via edits above as well.
Sorry my phrasing sucks so much here, but I don't directly handle any of this -- I'm a translator/editor -- so I'm passing on information second-hand. You're correct that we do not directly ship things to retailers, but if we don't have our copies yet, retailers most likely don't have theirs either, so my statement stands in that respect.
-Tom
I have no clue how Shinovi Versus in gonna work with combos, but the 3DS games were interesting in that you started out with some really basic combos, but as you level up and fight more more inputs get added into the combos which allow you to pull off different moves as well as different ways to knock an enemy into the air to start the aerial rave. I enjoy it alot since there are a shit ton of characters and the missions were never that long so it didn't get super repetitive for me, but I can see it getting that way for some. In a way it really does feel like a Musou game combat just with alot more aerial attacks
Thanks for the responses and keeping up to date with the community like that, I'm probably gonna be keeping my LE preorder, even if it does ship out on Release day, I still need to finally have my first physical vita game, and that art book at 144 pages seems really sweet
I'm just concerned about variation -- for me, musou games usually end up being "run over into that crowd, mash attack, okay now hit special... rinse, repeat".

Wait, Burst is considered easier than this? I pretty much had no issue with that game, save for a few missions on Frantic. Sounds like I won't have trouble with this on the normal difficulty setting. This game is a bit on the easy side (Burst and SK2 on 3DS are definitely more challenging) and stays that way after you start leveling up, although it's still a lot of fun and there is a higher difficulty option available. I plan to replay the U.S. version starting on the higher difficulty level and see how that goes.
