Mine is GMail Notifier Plus.

open up your gmail inbox in chrome

wrench > tools > create application shortcuts > pin to taskbar

Time to finally post again in this thread, now that i've upgraded to Lion.

[center; Alfred Clean theme / bottomLcorner; Bowtie curLion theme / bottomRcorner; custom Binary clock / Menu Bar; BetterTouchTool w/ custom icon, Anxiety w/ fixed scrollbars, Caffeine w/ custom icon]

I have three constant desktop spaces with each cycling through their own set of wallpapers. Dedicated full screen apps have really helped me cut down on the spaces I need (used to run five).
