September 2014 NPD (U.S. Hardware) Predictions - Closes October 14th

I think the PS4 2.0 update thread might take some steam out of NPD.

I doubt it, it's just the same bunch of "no DNLA" posts every PS4 firmware thread has

everyone knows November is the one that's gonna be interesting.

Every month after the month people said was going to be interesting is the one people are saying is going to be interesting. All months will be declared interesting, yet the results...shockingly similar.

Well, December will be interesting too. But that's because the holiday season is when the bulk of consoles are sold and we will be able to get some good data on overall trends for the industry.

So the numbers are available to NPD subscribers as of right now, right? Why do we have to wait for PR at 6:30? I'm literally wondering why it's not spilled beforehand. Or is it? I always catch the NPD sales results well after they've been posted so I'm not familiar with the timeline.

NPD providing the data to the subscribers before any public disclosures is among the benefits of being a subscriber. It also gives the platform holders/ publishers opportunity to look a the data and prepare their PR to coincide with the NPD PR, if they choose.

NPD and the Big 3 need time to examine the results and draft PR.

It's sad cos October WILL be interesting. What with Sunset Overdrive White XB1 bundle. PS4 will probably win but XB1 stands a better chance outselling it next month than this month by a long shot.

Who is it that has those handy launched-aligned graphs for the major consoles (Playstation, Nintendo, Xbox)? I'm just wondering 1) what the Wii did in its comparable month and 2) what number the PS4 would need to overtake the Wii again?

Right, right, I get that. But are the Big 3 the only ones that get to see console numbers? I don't know what constitutes a "subscriber". Depending on how many subscribers see that data, I'm curious as to why not one of them shares it before the PR.

Again, I'm asking honestly. Thank you for helping me understand. I find it fascinating and I've realized I don't really understand it at all.

Things I'm most interested in for this month:
1. PS4 sales: I want to see just what kind of effect the bundle had
2. Destiny splits: This could help define multiplatform splits going forward
3. Hyrule Warrior sales: I didn't even buy it. Just curious.

Road and Donny from time to time grace us with such graphs. There are one or two other posters that do as well but I can't remember their names

To answer your questions

1) 501,000 [yeah good luck at PS4 beating that]

2) PS4 would need to do like 550k to 600k I think to pull ahead of the Wii [Wii at the end of September 2007 had an LTD around 4.52M whereas at the end of August 2014 I have PS4 at 3.95M LTD]

NPD ninjas will hunt you down if you share NPD proprietary data that people pay tens of thousands of dollars for.

It's Halo innit.

Actually, its interesting because November and December make up the majority of sales for the US. As an example, the 360 sold ~270k in October of 2012, and then 1.26 million in November and 1.4 million in december. The big interesting numbers will be in november and december.

What exactly is going to cause all the commotion?

I figure PS4 is a likely lock for first place, and if for some reason Pachter's prediction comes true, I doubt the XBO will be miles ahead.

So...what's the megaton?

Thanks Swift. I was just wondering what numbers it would have to pull to be back on top.

Commas are hard on the iPhone. Gotta press some small ass key to shift the keyboard then press an even smaller key to hit comma then hit the small ass key again to switch back.

Actually if you press and hold the small shift key and then hover over to the comma it'll snap right back. One hit comma.
