I’m aiming for October to play and complete for the first time:
Resident Evil 4 Remake: Separate Way DLC
Silent Hill 2 Remake
Alan Wake 2: Night Springs and The Lake House DLC
Alone in the Dark (2024)
Fatal Frame 4
That’s it for now, if I have more time this month I’ll add more (likely some replays of other titles).
I’m very happy, was more or less able to play everything!
Separate Ways - solid DLC, sure it’s mostly re-used locations and assets but I’m not certainly not complaining about revisiting familiar locations of such an incredible experience through a different lens
Silent Hill 2 Remake - fucking god tier. Bloober nailed capturing the experience of the original game and made it just as frightening as the original. Really hope they remake 1 and 3 (my personal favorite) next
Alan Wake DLC - holy shit, what a ride. Of the three sections of Night Springs, the second was my least favorite, while it was cool to play Control’s Jesse again, the level itself was just fine, but the first section with the waitress was god tier (the werewolf and motorcycle line had me cracking up, as in, “wait, is that a real shotgun?!”), as was the third section with the sheriff played by Shawn Ashmore (love the little nod to his X-men role) and the game genre switching. Lake House was pretty good, it was basically playing a Control level but with the gameplay of Alan Wake 2 but it worked
Alone in the Dark - honestly, pretty good, mind you this is my first AitD game, so I have no basis for comparison. Would say it was rarely remotely scary, the monsters were kind of eh, but I liked the leads (I played as Emily as I was told she’s more connected to the story, I may do a second playthrough as Edward next year) and I’m a sucker for the exploration aspect and I liked the vibe of it especially in some of the otherworldly locations near the end
Fatal Frame 4 - so I’m on chapter 6 right now, god damn this one is scary. I’ve played most of 1 and all of 5, that’s it, but this one is the scariest so far for me. I do find the slow movement frustrating (IIRC they fixed this in 5), like have the characters move slower during combat to indicate they’re frightened, but when exploring and backtracking it would be much more enjoyable to be able to run at a more reasonable pace, Michael Myers could outpace these three. But beyond that, really great so far
