How did this thread get so long and no one mention Bulletstorm?
It pains me that there will never be a sequel to this awesome game. Especially with the ending setup.

It just sort of ends with nothing really resolved.
I'm very glad i no longer have to list Tex Murphy Overseer in this thread.
Also, I don't care about Half Life anymore but I still kind of want to find out what happens to Barney.

Yeah, going off of Last Window, that was definitely the direction the third game would've taken. It's too bad that we'll never see the big bad of the series get taken down.

Which makes the ending of Shenmue 2 feel like this incredible moment when they dribble a very, very small amount of fantasy in there.
And then, just like that, it cuts straight to credits.
There will never be a Shenmue 3. I don't even really want a Shenmue 3. It's been too long. Shenmue 3 in 2015 would never be the sequel to Shenmue 2 you dreamed of in 2001.
The gameplay in Shenmue kind of sucks, too. Like, don't get me wrong, I love Shenmue 1 and 2, I treasure them, they are incredible... but they are super super an acquired taste. You have to be a very specific type of person to really appreciate Shenmue. They're technically just adventure games, but there's an almost sort of auteur quality about them with how deliberately slow paced they are.
I worry that any potential attempt at making Shenmue 3 would actually ruin that, more than anything.

SWTOR doesn't exist damn it! Screw that game.
If I had a penny for every KOTOR fan that didn't bother trying SWTOR and discover that it actually has a lot of pretty nice stories and is a worthy successor to KOTOR even if you only focus on the single player content.

Yea it actually raps up Revan's story quite well, along with the book. I'd obviously have preferred it to happen in a single player game though.

shit. i haven't started them yet (huge backlog) and now i don't want to ever play them because i don't like starting stories with no ending in sight. might just flip these in the BST thread or ebay soon...

<3 TWEWY I was the only one to have it ordered in my local and the only one to buy it there but I'd buy it again and again. that ending was great but I ant see a sequel anytime soon from SE
Also SE never support mobile games theyre really bad to buy from. I don't think any of their games work or have been updated to work on Lollipop and there's been no word on the matter from SE as usual.

Each game has its own major mysteries that are resolved, but something bigger was teased in the background.
Still the best Nintendo published titles on the DS, must play.
The ending left a BIG potential for a a very great and interesting storyline... it has been 3 years now and we didn't even get a small piece of conformation that they are working on part 3.
The only people that could make The Darkness III work are MachineGames.

If it's not been mentioned already, then the Jak & Daxter series. Jak 3 has a sort of open ending, but also suggests that there's more adventures to come, then Jak X basically takes place after Jak 3 but is completely it's own thing, which ends on a cliffhanger, and then The Lost Frontier again is it's own self contained storyline that ends on a cliffhanger. There's been three games in a row that ended with cliffhangers while not resolving the previous one whatsoever.

One of the best local MP games I've ever played. The bots v four players split screen was ace.
The common speculation is that
Yuna went on to create a new artificial god: Myria, the main villain of the rest of the series. The Endless that became mortals became the first members of the new dragon clan. Ryu himself becomes Ladon, the dragon god of the first three games.
In any case, the Breath of Fire games tend to be more about the personal stories of its main characters rather than about saving the world (other than the first game, and to a lesser extent the second). Breath of Fire 3, 4, and Dragon Quarter are primarily stories about the growth and personal journeys of their main characters. Dragon Quarter's plot, for example, isn;t about saving the whole world so much as saving just a single person in that world. All three of the later BoF games leave a lot of plot elements unresolved, since they are ultimately incidental to the main story. The main theme of the series becomes more about how the dragons choose not to control or shape the destiny of the world, but to instead live in it as people. Those who do choose to control the world with their power are instead the villains of the franchise. So an ending which has the world move on outside of the control of the main characters with unresolved plot threads is in line with the series' main themes.

I loved bulletstorm but I really do wish they kept it a complete package and not left so open like that, never presume a sequel is coming and just finish the game you are working on as best as you can without gaps.
The lack of a sequel or closure to half life 2 ep 2 actually makes me angry at valve. It's not like they closed or have a boss that says no more half life. The entire gaming community wants hl3 or at minimum ep3 and have for a century. Make it Gabe! I mean seriously, it's the one cliffhanger I find to be a middle finger in my face.

This may be true, but the unresolved plot of IV is still frustrating. V abandons it and seems to take place either in a distant future or during the period of time that III briefly references (with the modern looking city and hint to past events). It's pretty clear that Capcom had no intent to continue that story, but ending it the way they did was a bad move.
Also, I love the theory that IV
is a prequel

I'd understand that if the majority of SWTOR's story content wasn't available to you as a single player and had a price tag behind it, but in truth, it doesn't. The best part of SWToR for me was the story, and that's the thing they give away.
The largest difference between SWToR and KOTOR is that you have the small inconvenience of updating and logging on to a server rather than playing locally but even those are petty excuses. None of SWToR's story content is behind a paywall, and for me that part of the game is its best part.
If you don't want to play it because it's an MMO, a free one with one of the fairest and most generous monetisation I've ever seen, even though you can enjoy all the campaigns and the majority of the story in single player, you are just being stubborn in my opinion.
At the very least try it before you judge it.
I should really let this one go. Someday the pain will subside.
OH MAN this game! I actually finished that game when i was younger. I find it funny how reading on it now it was considered "hard". I remember clearing it without much trouble.

Return to Krondor did this to me.
The ending sneaks up on you and the plot was a subplot of Feist's larger Riftwar universe so it felt like the game just up and quit on you.
The Riftwar books are pretty awesome. There are 30 of them however.

So sad that they went out of business. Such a fantastic series. I can't remember when but back in 2014 the Europe nintendo magazine interview a cing employee and she talked about had they still been open that they would have made a crossover game with Kyle Hyde and Ashley Mizuki Robbins. Breaks my heart that it'll never happen

No the problem with The Old Republic was that it was an MMO with all the things that comes with it, including a ridiculous grind fest and a sub fee (At the time) and you say the fairest monetisation but I say it's one of the worst, you can't sprint in the game until like level 15 unless you pay, you get exp reductions if you don't pay and you are constantly asked to buy those coins. It's far too much grinding for people who just want to play a singeplayer story and the gameplay is typical MMO which makes it boring.
It was not what people wanted for Kotor.
