Serious Question: Does it make a game better?

She gained that audience before Spiderman. It is worth looking up, sponsors, modeling, vogue stuff, ads, etc. It was around the time she changed her name from 'Zendaya Coleman' to just 'Zendaya' much like Beyonce.

She already had her own 'hive' as they call it.

I know people don't like to hear this, but again his statement is flawed.

Also to give credit where it's due, Sydney is still doing a great job making her name more and more relevant and household-worthy regardless of her multiple movie flops recently.
I doubt she has double\triple the engagment of sweiner before the spiderman movies but i don't care enough to check, and it's probably impossible to actually measure that.

Does character design make a game better?

Over the years, I've seen posts by GAFers who decry the "uglyfication" and "non-sexyfication" of female videogame characters

Lmao at that image, you think "uglyfication" = no tits?

That says more about you dude, there's plenty of women out there that are flat as plank of wood, but are gorgeous regardless

Zendaya no matter what you think of her is not UGLY or an eyesore.

Whatever happened to Lena Dunham? Why didn't her career take off?

Why is Katie Perry a successful musician? She can't sing AT ALL. She stinks. Like objectively a terrible singer. She's successful because she's a hot chick with giant tits. Same with Sydney Sweeney although her acting isn't terrible like Katie's singing.

Nobody wants to look at fuckin Lena Dunham or Erika Ishii.

It's not either/or, the AI generated one is over the top parody.
We just ask for conventionally beautiful women or masculine men characters now and then, in Sony games specifically where the problem is out of control. Even Riot Games, a company having woke coming out of its pores still do amazing & sexy character design.

Sony and WotC might be the two most ideologically captured companies atm.

Agree, but I'd add Blizzard to that list.

My guess? Insecure people that cry at the sight of anything barely more attractive than them and who needs to "feel represented" by the media they consume, which is something I'll never understand. Conan is one of my favorite adventure movies, yet I've never felt the need to look like Schwarzenegger.

Even Quina, who is a slimy, horrible, fat thing, but she is more charismatic and that's why she is a good character.

No, you don't want to look at them, you don't speak for the world.

I bet Erika Ishii gets more pussy and dick than she knows what to do with.

These aren't my words. These are thoughts from a multitude of posters in Off-Topic, some even present in this very thread.

The logic doesn't add up.

People here would have to consider her beautiful to suit the arguments in this thread, because they can't have both.

Erika is a 4, or 5, or 6 at best, which fits the narrative of the game's character as it is one of the focal points (as said by many here who have played the game).

A question as reply: if the claim is that is "really doesn't matter," whether a game has attractive characters or not....then....

Does it REALLY matter having accurate to real life depictions of men and women in fictional or fantastical stories? If one question derives a different answer than the other, well....we've just analyzed the gamer instead of the game.

And let's be real, with that tongue she probably make this meme come to life

IuBcAM5wV42yAoFe.jpeg
I do support the fact that the models are beautiful, and that's a huge plus.

Silent Hill F. I bought it for its content, but Hinako is a good character and cute.

And I support that... Yotei, I don't buy that thing, and neither do Intergalatic...

So, one less sale.

Why would you buy a game that you have no interest in playing just to look at some video game tits. This entire mentality just doesn't make sense to me. Save your $70 and spend it on something you want to play. You're living life on hard mode man.

The comment was entirely tongue-in-cheek, though I do sincerely think the gameplay in Sony's modern games is terrible. Obviously, I wouldn't buy Yotei even if her tits were fully out for the entire 40+ hour slog.

Probably.

Neither should matter, yet people fight over both.

Some do because they hate either one or the other, and some do because they want they want to be right, and if something happens that makes them wrong, it weakens the point they have so strongly argued as a 'defacto' point. And from their perspective that can't happen.

There are too many factors that go into a success or failure, but people want to simplify them to a few strong talking points to bolster their point of view.

Men and women both like looking at attractive characters. How in the hell is this still shocking to anybody?

This is still going to be true no matter how much you wish it weren't true, no matter how hard you try to pretend that your above it all, no matter how hard you virtue signal about it.

"Serious Question"? :pie_eyeroll: I've never seen a more disingenuous poster than you OP. You post some ridiculous image which you know that nobody will think is appropriate for a serious game set in 1603 Japan to try to validate your point of view.

Nobody wants Atsu to look like a sex doll, but they went out of their way to pick an ugly lesbian terrorist who barely looks Japanese for the role. Even Atsu's mother's design is 1000 times better than Atsu's and looks authentically Japanese:

Why do you think Hollywood actors are good looking? Because people want to see good looking people, that's human nature. It's even more true for a videogames since you are playing the main character, and most people don't want to be portrayed as ugly. This is how it always was until mentally ill degenerates, who are all hideously ugly, started becoming employed at these gaming studios and started wanting to put ugly people like them as the stars, just like that woman who swapped out MJ's attractive face from the 1st Spider-man game to put her ugly face in the sequel.

'Samurai girl' = it's already a wacky setting, so you may as well have the calcium cannons too.
She's not a samurai, and the game makes no claims of her being one. She actually gets quite a lot of shit for being a woman with weapons in game. I've seen multiple examples in less than 10 hours of playtime.

People do take too much pride in, and therefore attach too much ego to, their opinions or arguments.

When I started gaming, I wasn't entirely naive. I was educated on basic pattern recognition, so I could see which games were more favored by chicks, by casuals, by bruhs, etc. I could see the traits and themes in those games that made them attractive to their core demographic. I didn't care, though. It wasn't designed, marketed or intended for my little circle in the diagram.

I think what riles people up the most is the notion (whether true, false, or situational) that people who don't care about a fan base they are infiltrating suddenly wanting something that isn't designed, marketed or intended for their demographic to capitulate to an arbitrary and undisclosed set of laws. Laws that the noncorporeal Modern Day Audience etches into their tablets and then weaponize against any person or entity who doesn't propagate it.

This can apply to either side of the overall culture war argument, but it's at it's loudest and most apparent with the young Liberal freedom fighters online. That's why phrasing like "Does it really matter?" or "Why are you getting so emotional about this?" is jeered at to such a degree in 2025 online discourse.

Anyone who says it and then gets out of sorts over the exact same statement being used in reply needs to critically examine the situation. It's the holy light of irony and hypocrisy exposing every disingenuous buzz phrase they say as the complete nonsense it is.

Companies by their very nature should always be looking to expand their customer base. Not all changes are going to translate into sales as has been the issue with the "modern gamer" push. In theory they're out there in enough quantity that every single market leader wanted to get a piece of that market, but they're just not buying games. This is literally just capitalism. They took a shot, they failed, they'll make adjustments for the next one once all these games are out of the pipeline and you'll likely see the pendulum swing the other way for a bit. This idea that any company should only ever cater to you as a demographic (the collective you, not you personally), is wild to me. Buy what speaks to you, ignore what doesnt, the companies will adjust or die.

Agreed, with a caveat: expanding demographic should never dilute the product into something unrecognizable. You need to boil the frog, not torch it with a flamethrower.

It has to be tone appropriate. It's fine for most games where story doesn't really matter, and can actually enhance some games, but I wouldn't want it in something trying to be serious.

Can you imagine the Aerith death scene but she looks like this?

I don't know if it's worth formulating a response but it's funny how the image was as extreme as possible in sexualization lol it's simply a fallacy that gamers think the game gets better the more sexualized a character is.

She actually gets quite a lot of shit for being a woman with weapons in game.

The game is a feminist power fantasy, so that's not too surprising.

I'm not sure it helps with the verisimilitude of the game though for her to keep getting shit. If the notion of her being a competent warrior is ridiculous enough in the setting for people to keep commenting on it, then why portray her that way and not expect the player to also find it ridiculous? If it's not ridiculous in this setting, because the setting isn't trying to be realistic to begin with, then it makes little sense for people to be commenting on it. The commenters seem to exist within a realistic setting, while she exists within an unrealistic one.

This would unironically improve the abomination they made of that scene in Rebirth.

Yes. Attractive characters made for the actual audience matters for all entertainment. Anita Sarkisian and the army of woketards never convinced me otherwise.

Eye candy and sexy female characters should be used properly - no one wants a big titty ninja lady in a "serious" game and story. Well... Most don't want. But a fighter, silly action game or a campy horror? Yes please!

Exactly my man. Give people a little bit of eye candy, nothing wrong with that.

Hell, there are even many iconic designs that go way further than the example in the OP.

While it's not needed at all, I sure as hell prefer this over face-scanning some real-life uggo.
This! And it's not only the model that's great. Her moves, attacks (SC II grab from behind thst puts you on your knees with her foot on you choking with a seductive voice 🥵), voice lines. Pure sexiness perfection!

She looks nothing like the photo on the left. If she did it wouldn't of been an issue at all. The lady on the left here is at least normal looking and not some elderly woman with a crooked face.

The one on the right is exaggerated but I wouldn't complain. . As the outfit could be different. The one on the left is fine too.

This is what the main character looks like. Not your image.

I will never forgive Ubisoft for what they did to the Outlaws actress
She actually looks better than the other examples. And in game she still has a tight body and her face isn't as bad as that shot.

I was a hell no about outlaws and then I played it on the switch 2 and was like this is pretty solid. The game isn't pushing agenda either. It's better than any of the sequel star wars movies.

I like sexy design as much as the next guy but that picture thats suppose to be "sexy" looks cringy as fuck.....it looks like AI made porn ad.

There are MUCH better way to make great looking character design.

Sony focusing so much on plain and/or "non conventionally attractive" characters
Non conventionally attractive: Ella Purnell or Ana Taylor-Joy (before surgery). Sony is focusing on non attractive or mid.

it's simply a fallacy that gamers think the game gets better the more sexualized a character is.
Up to a certain point, this improves the visuals/art, which is a part of the game.

Are you saying you weren't convinced by the fake news about GoY sales? Unbelievable.
