Severed (PS Vita/PSN) |OT| Swiping your way to victory limb by limb

Finally beat it, was fun. I look forward to drinkbox's next game and hope it'll be Spanish influenced.

"The pain we feel is just love showing through" Damn good line.

Picked this up on iPad, and it's so freaking good. Kind of funny how I had dismissed this at first, probably because I'm so used to mobile games and really tired of Fruit Ninja/Infinity Blade-style gameplay

But holy shit, this is fantastic. The eldritch nightmarish world of grotesque creatures and fleshy flora (fever dream is the perfect description). The memorable juxtaposition of vibrant colorful palette and dark haunting moments (
finding your brother's corpse, having to eat a heart to upgrade your health, etc.
). The dungeon-crawler-style world and exploration, with its mix of light puzzles and RPG elements

And of course, the aspect that had intitially turned me off when I first saw gameplay, aka the (awesome) combat. It's so satisfying, from the tense enemy management to the precision needed to take down each enemy. Slicing limbs off never gets old.

I'm currently on the second boss.

Bought this on iphone and started playing it today.

Was really enjoying it at first, but it starts to get extremely frustrating.
The most frustrating parts for me are where my health is draining until I have to hit something. I'll keep dying in these sections because I have to fight through monsters to get to the spot where I can hit the thing to stop the health drain. I don't get hit at all by the monsters, but because I'm taking too long, I die simply from the health drain. And the only reason I'm taking so long is I'm facing the guys who block with their hands, and they constantly do the crouching move where they block all incoming damage. Really turning me off the game.

Prioritising your targets to get your focus at max is key for those fights - that way when you get your opening you can take down the tougher enemies fast. Assuming you have the ability, try to
steal
the right powers as well.

Oh man, can't wait until you get the cloud walking. It's an awesome game all the way. Maybe the best story in a game this year?

Playing this now, 2nd boss is down and just at the turn off to the 3rd area... Really liking this.

The learning curve on this is just as good as Guacamelee, with a new enemy here and there, then combinations of enemies and then they throw in buffs and protected areas, it certainly becomes a full blown Enemy Management Simulator!

It's not overly difficult, but if you don't prioritize and keep an eye on the other enemies you will die alot. I felt that the first time I entered a poisoned area with two encounters, that was a big step in gaining alot of experience.

Since then, the biggest annoyance have been the fucking bat like creatures who seem like that constantly attack and then break into four creatures when they are close to death who then are in a permanent state of attack mode.

Whilst it does feel alittle swipey-swipey and it hasn't ended, it still has me sold and it will sit along side of Guacamelee in the sequel request list... Can we please get a sequel!!

If you haven't already figured it out:
trap yourself in the room

I bought this on 3DS and I'm enjoying it a ton. The combat design is really fun if a tensy bit on the easy side, and the enemies not respawning makes for a rather empty world once you start exploring for secrets. The two bosses I faced so far have been big surprises and have done a good job building on each other. Hopefully there's a hard mode.

3DS version is at the entry discount like the wii u version was.

I forgot to mention how much I loved the subtle use of the to-be-acquired mechanics within the two bosses I've faced. Once I found out what they did it felt really smart on the part of drinkbox.

Also, could a mod update the title to reflect that it's on Wii U 3DS and ipad?

So I finished it and it made me come to the conclusion that I think the story was probably too vague. It could have used a little more world building (
i.e. it's not explained how she ended up there in the first place
). And is there seriously no hard mode?

Any place where i can find the memetos description. I found them all but skipped the description of 2 by tapping the screen.

I am so enjoying this game.

Bought this for Wii U/3DS. On paper playing it on Wii U is best but I don't know. The Gamepad is too heavy to hold with one hand, which puts strain on my wrist. Also the resolution is crap with aliasing and the gamepad's screen is just not good for dedicated games. Color accuracy is bad.

Cleared it. Would get the Platinum, but I can't beat a fight to the memento in Ghost Mountain where you're on clouds and you fight the toughest enemy type (red ball wizard monster) and he has every buff and is immune to magic. I steal attack buff from one of the other enemies and then spam his red ball, then counter arm slashes x 3 then spam his guts, then counter arm slashes x 3, then spam guts...and he's still not dead and by this point I'm almost out of time and still have the other two enemies to take care of. Not sure how to beat this guy. I'm fully maxed out in upgrades.

Just finished this yesterday (got the plat) and found this encounter to be an unexpected spike in difficulty. Almost felt broken. In the end what I did was
focus on the main guy exclusively after stealing an attack buff, keeping Rage up whenever I'd attack, completely ignoring the other two
.

I've got to say, the early monsters in this game are triggering a stronger trypophobia (sp) reaction in me than expected. I really don't like turning around and seeing those big honeycomb things.

Surprised there haven't been more posts since this was free on PS+

I purchased the game like two months before it went free on PS+. I didn't really play it much until a few weeks ago when I had to travel for work. I ended up platinuming the game during the business trip.

Guacamelee is one of my favorite games of the past few years, so Severed had a lot to live up to. While the gameplay of Severed didn't quite hook me in the same way I still had a ton of fun with it. There were some difficulty spikes but nothing too egregious once the mechanics began to click. That fight on the cloud in Ghost Mountain was definitely the toughest in the game, but when I finally beat it I somehow had a ton of time to spare.

I eagerly look forward to whatever Drinkbox is cooking up next.

It got me to sub again.

Any tips? I am missing a lot of things like those eye symbols on the wall.

The symbols on the walls are unlocked by powerups that you'll get later. It will be obvious when you get them.

Maybe that's because people are too busy playing the game to post about it. :)

I got Severed through PS Plus, and I'm having a blast with it! It's well suited to the PS Vita, with its blend of fast-action touch screen battle sequences and exploration elements.

Severed is so great. I'm loving it on the Vita, and I hope Drinkbox can find a way to bring it to PC with mouse gestures.

More on topic, it seems to me that Drinkbox is the only studio making such a great use of art styles that seem Mexican, Aztec, or Central American more broadly.

Almost got the platinum. This game is resoundingly excellent, albeit very frustrating at times with the amount of multitasking there can be during battles. I almost feel bad for not buying it.

I bought on launch to support Drinkbox but really not had the time to play it unfortunately :( Really should bring my Vita in to work for games like this.
