the Samsung D520 was my first phone. And for me it had everything i needed. Now I use a S10+ and change Samsung phones every 4 years . So S2 → S6Edge+ → S10+ .

As you can tell, I'm big into qwerty keyboard phones.

They are definitely a rarity nowadays, at least in regards to new models with good specs. It's why I've kept my Priv for so long despite the fact it is running Android 6.0. The Blackberry Key 2 is newer and has a keyboard but I like the slide-boards, so I decided against the Key when they came out. Super stoked for when I finally get my Pro 1 X.

The Moto budget phones were pretty good for their price. They didn't feel cheap unlike the Chinese budget ones like Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo we get today.

I'm one of the weirdos without an Android or an Apple smartphone. It's a Lumia 650. I'll probably finally upgrade this year, but honestly I'm in no hurry. I use the phone for browsing the Internet, Slack and texting/calling 99% of the time. And I HATE phones with big screens, my current one barely fits in my pockets and it's considered small by today's standards.

My first mobile phone was a Motorola V2288, some good memories there. It actually had much better build quality than some of the Sony-Ericsson phones I had later.

I seldom use phones so keep hold of them for many years. 99.9% of their use is as an alarm clock and music player.

Had a NEC e616 in 2004 and held on to that until 2010. Moved to a HTC Desire S in 2010 and used that until 2017, where I use a hand-me-down Samsung S6 to this day.

Battery life is fubared on my S6 though so thinking about an upgrade now. Can't even get 2 hours of music out of it from a full charge

Not in feel and quality. They do use cheaper components, otherwise they won't be able to attain those costs (mainly display and stuff). Even their UI is quite bland tbh and the ads ugh..

I only had 2 phones in my life.. didn't get my 1st phone until senior year of HS. It was a Iphone 5S. Used it for over 4 years during college. But in 2019 once I finally got a decent paying job, i've made a huge jump and upgraded to the Samsung S10+.

And now i'm debating to trade in my S10+ For the S21 Ultra 5G for a big discount. Yet.. the S21 doesn't seem like a massive improvement from the S20.

Not sure.... Should I just wait another year and skip the S21? Or use the extra Bday/Xmas money to buy freaking Lego Lamborghinis? Hmmmmm... hahaha.

A $20 Android Tracfone (phone is actually called Alcatel Onetouch) with a 3" screen. Got it about five years ago, still using it. I completely detest smartphones and this is pretty much as far as I'm willing to go. It has a removable battery which is nice.

I might have considered upgrading just because the GPS doesn't seem to work anymore, but I refuse to put a phone bigger than this in my pocket and it seems like they stopped making small ones -- completely retarded for a portable device but what do I know?

I always get a new iphone once they are a couple years old then upgrade every 2 years. My phones have never been lost or broken and I guess I keep that same back in the day approach that you get a free upgrade every 2 years. I love when spoiled kids are like "Wow, how old is your phone?" because my iPhone is 2 years old. I just upgraded from the SE to the SE 2000. I had a 5C, I like the smaller iPhones. Everyone made fun of me for having a big phone back in like 2003-2004 and said I was a huge weirdo because I shopped online and used my phone for business. One dude I worked with at a computer store couldn't believe I ordered food online instead of signing off and picking up the landline like a normal adult. I sold phones for a store from 2000-2001 and then online from my own sites on and off from 2000-2012ish.

I absolutely love it. Mine's still holding up decently well after 4 years (replaced the battery about two years ago).

The biggest issue with it is the fact the latest Android version you can upgrade it to is Android 6.0, which is no longer officially supported by Google. I have a good antivirus software installed on it, but its def considered a security risk because of that. If that isn't an issue for you and you can find one for a pretty good price, I do recommend it since you're a qwerty fan. The keyboard does take a little bit to get used to if you're used to horizonal sliding keyboards, but once you do it works great.

I've only come across a few apps it's not compatible with, but those were all pretty much newer games aside from a niche software app my work uses. Most of the popular main apps and games still work just fine with it.

For sure, keyboards are the best for accuracy. I use mine a ton for work emails and Teams communication, so they're one of the most important aspects of a phone for me. Touch screens also take way longer to knock out big messages and replies. I plan on sticking with qwerty phones as long as I possibly can.

Galaxy S3 and now have a Pixel 3a. Had a Galaxy S7 right before the Pixel and that is probably my favorite phone ever. The pricing for flagship phones just isn't worth it anymore for me. The tech for what I use smart phones for had pretty much matured and the 3a does a good job.

HTC Desire S in 2012-ish.
There are still some things I like about this phone more than today's. Namely the super old Firefox Mobile where all the text could be zoomed in and would auto reflow to the screen edges, meaning you don't need to scroll left and right to read a zoomed-in line of text. Then Google ripped that feature out of Android's code.

Nowadays I have a Surface Duo phone for increased productivity.

if converted to dollars, the price would be around $125 USD... works for me.

My current ones are around the 200-mark, the 120€ china-ones are a bit too iffy for me in terms of privacy, tried two of them.
I don't see myself getting something expensive either (unless BB releases something with a keyboard), totally works for me. Can't fathom spending 1k on a bloody phone.

This was a fun exercise! I think I got them all, here's my history:

Nokia 3310 -- snake game hell yeah
Motorola T720 -- awesome build quality and the first phone I had that could play something that resembled a game (i.e. beyond kilobyte-sized snake game)
Motorola Razr -- beautiful design and the colour screen was cool as it let me play mobile Java games that resembled shitty Gameboy games
Sony w810i -- I was more amazed that a phone could be an mp3 player rather than it having a camera (which sucked) or could access the internet (extremely slow and expensive data)
Sony Xperia X1 -- my first true "smart" phone that could send and receive emails... changed how I thought of phones forever
Samsung Galaxy S -- "whoa... Android makes my Xperia Windows O/S look like complete dogshit!"
Samsung Galaxy S3 -- huge spec upgrade from the S... loved this phone
Samsung Galaxy S5 -- waterproof blew my mind. I remember showing my friends it worked after dunking it in a sink.
Samsung Galaxy S7 -- loved the integrated home button / fingerprint scanner.
Samsung Galaxy S10 -- I haven't had a single itch to upgrade yet. The S21 line isn't changing that. I could probably happily use this phone for another 2-3 years. Somehow still as fast as Day 1.

Even though I am by no means "locked into" the Samsung ecosystem (is there even a "Samsung ecosystem"?), I have been so happy with the quality of all my Samsung phones (literally not one single failure or warranty service needed) that I see no reason to jump brands until that changes.
