Shenmue III sales flopped

I would had tried it if I had played the originals. But those came on Dreamcast, and their recent ports where shity.

I hope I'm non misremebering but in an interview Suzuki said that the bulk of the budget came from the kickstarter itself.
Sony helped with the initial marketing, then Deep Silver with the rest of the marketing and some minor funding (I'd say around the million mark, but I'm not sure). I don't think it exceedes or maybe reaches 10 millions.
I think it's around the same budget as Hellblade, if we want to continue that comparison.

Interestingly enough, a new interview went up just today regarding the manpower used for the game:

To make it short: graphics compromises have been reached to make the team able to develop the rest of the content, and the "jankier" animations are there because getting those 100% accurate would have meant cutting 9/10 of them.

More critically (and more interestingly, in my opinion), the throw moves are missing because the mocap setup they had available used big chunky sensors, that could have been broken (or injured someone) if you tried to physically throw someone to the ground.
That's a an egregious example of the difference a pre-existing working pipeline can make, when creating something.

The drunk martial artist is a real person? Lol

I remember when this was announced, I was laughing at people backing the kick starter without even playing it or some having no idea what it was. I may if even got banned due to my supposed negative attitude towards the announcement.

Hopefully the creator made some money from this but it was never going to be good for today's standard.

Has anyone received their kickstarter rewards yet? I pledged $250 and got the shirt, capsule toys, soundtrack, etc. However, I have yet to get any emails about when I'll be receiving the stuff.

Well, the console exclusivity deal expired, so now Yakuza games are now going to sell to a wider audience. There's that.
Kind of late to jump in to a series that far along it's dead on all other system I'm also assuming that most fans are on ps

Not shocked, game looks like shit, runs like shit. Then getting dumpstered by your fans because of decisions they don't like.

Rip.

Wow! Terrible reviews (I know I'm late)

I remember I had the first one for the Sega Dreamcast back in 1999. But then auctioned it on eBay and it sold for like 90 bucks in 2003. I don't know why I got so much money for it? I think maybe it was out of print. I vaguely remember really liking that first one.

People love to hate on Epic but how much you want to bet those very game people were cheering when eipc was givign out 12 game over the past 3 weeks?

I didn't play the originals because they looked more like a chore than anything and all this one looked like was a clone with updated graphics. Everything from the UI to the gameplay to the voice acting looked and sounded archaic.

Not surprised. Game took way too long to come out. And Shenmue I and II re-releasing made me realize how horrible those games aged.

Why did people expect it would perform at all ? The game was paid for by the people interested in it to begin with. Of course it is not going to sell that much.
