I think Shin Godzilla mixed practical with CGI (I could be wrong) and it looked good. This doesn't look much better than the Philippines Voltes V TV series coming out. Maybe it looks worse because Voltes V is going for the cartoony look whereas Shin Ultraman should have a more realistic look..
*EDIT*
A Philippines TV show really shouldn't look comparable to a Japanese movie.

Most of Shin Godzilla was CGI. They built an animatronic rig of Godzilla's final form but i don't think it was used that often.
Some things in Shin Godzilla looked good, but other times it looked very low budget. It is what it is when you only have a budget of $10-20 Million (Godzilla vs Kong has a budget of 150-200 Million). I'd expect much of the same with Shin Ultraman in terms of the CGI quality varying across the film.
I saw Shin Godzilla on a screen meant for 70mm IMAX movies. It wasn't stretched or anything, but it was huge and glorious. Hoping the same theater is still around and picks this up when it releases.
