July 13, 2005 - A new version of Swiss Family Robinson has been announced, with production heading to sunny Australia. Disney and Mandeville Films have picked Jonathan Mostow, director of Terminator 3 and U-571, to shoot the picture.

The new Swiss Family Robinson is yet another remake of the popular novel by Johann David Wyss about a family shipwrecked on an island, forced to use their wits and ingenuity as they struggle against both nature and bloodthirsty pirates. Several other films and television series based on that story have been made in past decades. One series from the Seventies starred a young Helen Hunt.

According to a scoop at Moviehole, Disney is pursuing Lindsay Lohan (Herbie, Fully Loaded) for a starring role in Swiss Family Robinson. It could be the actress's last youthful movie part before she moves on to more grown-up roles.
