Shoot the Core! - Gaf Shoot ‘em Up (aka Shooter/SHMUP) Reference Thread

I've only tried getting the force pod up there a couple times, eventually just sticking with my tried-and-true route. I did catch a bit of a video on Nico where the player kills the ship pretty early, but they were just aggressively going the "normal" way and didn't shoot the pod above the battleship in the beginning.

Just a heads-up: Soldner X2 will have a limited physical release for Vita in the next months. All updates and DLC included inside the cart.

Sometimes, on ebay, you find the coolest shit.

Nice challenge. I'll try this in 2D graphics mode of R-Type Dimensions, on 360 or PS3 later.

This person seems to be a huge fan of the original R-Type, look at his collection.

yeah, i tried several times and can get the pod up there to kill the top guns easy but what i noticed is the force pod will not enter the core block on it's own no matter how many times i tried. so i may have to try aggressively going the normal way to kill it early.

nice collection.

Yeah, I watched the video twice.

Soundtracks to R-Type, R-Type II, R-Type Leo, R-Type III: The Third Lightning, R-Type Delta and R-Type Final all in one nice package:

Ahh, nice, thanks :)

Edit:

Here's two Raiden II previews from EGM - Raiden II arcade, Raiden Project for PSX.

Different issues, separated by probably well over a year, don't have the info in front of me atm.

Also, this lovely preview of In The Hunt.

I think I posted some of these while back, but the quality wasn't as good.

No one picked up on Degica's next non-Cave shmup announced today? http://store.steampowered.com/app/435970/

RefRain was a relatively text and mechanics-heavy game from a few years ago, six years in the making (2005-2011). The demo was very intriguing but impossible for me to understand - I was actually afraid this one might be old enough to slip through the cracks of all the Steam releases.

I mean, just look at these instructions cards:

Not feeling those RefRain screens. Screams Touhou to me and I don't like Touhou.

WOW! RefRain looks amazing. I've never seen patterns like those outside of some Touhou shenanigans. Just gorgeous. Will buy this one.

I got the email about RefRain a while ago from Degica's newsletter. Looks friggin sweet!

I recently got all the Alltynex games in a bundle for a bit of a discount. The PC versions might be a big all over the place in terms of working nicely, but they're all damn fine shooting games.

The patterns might look similar sometimes (the RebRank circle was born from Amusement Makers, the ones behind the Seihou Project after all), but believe me when I say it plays nothing like Touhou.
Like. At all.

So what are the more recent shmups do we have from Degica? I think I might've missed one. From memory:
Mushihimesama
Dariusburst CS
Deathsmiles

and now there's this new one. Did any other Cave titles get announced?

Buuuuuut can the resolution be upped to 1920x1080? Not really liking these limited screen sizes @_@

BTW any chance someone could link to a list of the best Shmup or Shmup style games on the NES/FDS?

Yeah, it's doing my head in. I'm all for supporting these Cave games, but I'd rather play them in MAME with a scaled image that fills my monitor vertically rather than a tiny box on a 1080p screen. I got a refund for Deathsmiles.

Ditto to Recca and Zanac (and might as well check out Compile's whole catalog while you are at it)

I've always been fond of Abadox.

Oh, and I played Life Force/Salamander before Gradius so it has always been my first love.

toaplan's hishozame is on NES and the game rules (apparently the NES port is iffy tho). that later led into kyuukyoku tiger which is also on NES.

Am I correct in thinking that the genesis Compile shmup offerings aren't included in any other collections?
A lot of games from that era seem to have been ported around, but i don't know about these.

MUSHA's on Wii Virtual Console, the CD game has never been re-released.
