Shoot the Core! - Gaf Shoot ‘em Up (aka Shooter/SHMUP) Reference Thread

I've only got the first Gold Pack.

It looks and sounds amazing. But the audio is streamed from the CD like a Sega CD or PC-engine CD game. Like they recorded the audio of the MD game and play it back rather than being created by a chip.
Thanks for the info.

Hmm, Sonic Jam was the same way. I guess that's the best way to accurately recreate the sound, but it worries me about the authenticity to the originals, even if it's just the pacing of the music during the levels.
I suppose These days it would be cheaper to buy the Gen carts anyway and Thunder Spirits in lieu of Thunder Force AC. I only wanted the Gold Packs so I could use my arcade controllers but maybe I'll pick up a PS2->MD tototek adapter and use my HRAP2 instead.

Just put it in the computer. Straight audio.

Also found this bit online about Gold Pack 2:

"Time for more classic shooting action with Technosoft's Thunder Force Gold Pack 2. This time we have a 100% perfect copies of the Mega Drive hit Thunder Force IV and the arcade version of Thunder Force AC which was also released on the SFC/SNES by Toshiba under the name of Thunder Spirits. Sadly the SFC/SNES version is pretty poor. An interesting fact for those who don't know. Thunder Force II MD was in fact a cut down version of Thunder Force AC with a few over head sections thrown in.

Technosoft have learned from their mistake with the first Gold Pack by actually "emulating" the original Mega Drive and Arcade sound and not just streaming it from CD like they did with the first collection. The music on Thunder Force AC seems to be 100% spot on while the music in Thunder Force IV is 99% perfect. There seems to be just a tinny difference in some of the songs. Nothing that would spoil the fun though."

Got an iCade Core but having trouble getting it to work with Blazing Star. Any suggestions? I paired it but its not working. Tried another game like Temple Run and it works fine with it.

Whoa, that's good to know. Thanks. GP2 is the pricier option, but it might be worth it for the AC port.

I've bought from Yakumo before, but the added bonus of Solaris is having a D-Terminal to Female Component connector easily included with the order and quite cheaply compared to other places too.

I'll shoot him a PM and see if something can be arranged. Thanks guys.

Oh sweet, I remember you talking highly of it before.

Looking at videos now, it seems similar to Galaga Legions?

A bit but not as boring. More about chaining. First two waves can be a little ho-hum (you do have to play through them each time), but then everything starts slamming together and evolving chain-wise. Boss music is pretty epic. I stopped after a few days since Luigi came out but I'll be playing it quite a bit more. Taking the month off from shooters and playing some normal games like Luigi, Hotline, and Last of Us till Ketsui Triple drops.

hmmm, I remember having to do something to get it to work. Did you try just pressing the home button and re-opening Blazing Star? I remember it being something stupid like that.

Yeah,

That is a fantastic price for two solid games..even on the one with the extra CD.

Region-free and will never be localized so import away!

So as much as I love Shiki 2(and wonder how in the hell XS Games are still in business), it's being sent to die. There's no indicator of what the game even is!

$9.99 to boot.

What's wrong with Raiden Legacy?
I've already bitched about this in this thread, but

- autofire toggle is either firing CONSTANTLY or bust, no "hold button and you keep shooting". This fucks up scoring as you'll kill fairies OR you're stuck mashing shoot.

- no slowdown emulation so the games are needlessly more difficult than they were in the arcade

- some graphical problems with tearing and LOTS AND LOTS of shadow flicker

- no tate (unless it was patched in?)

- none of the amazing RFA filters... come on!

I also have some problems with unresponsive input but that may because I was playing on my work machine so "ymmv"

Also

-very shitty interface

There is no reason to buy Raiden Legacy if you have a NA or JP 360, it is very frustrating to me because RFA is one of my favorite games ever.

PSA for North American shmuppers. Arcadeshock has the VX-SE Kai for $150 delivered through the EVO weekend. Great stick, awesome parts, sexy look and feel. This one is better than the first VX-SE, but slightly below the EX-SE:

I bought one of the Neo Geo USB pads for PS3 in anticipation of Ketsui at the end of the month, and I just tried using it with Espgaluda (backwards compatible J-PS3) and it didn't seem to recognise it? Will it not work with PS2 games?

Does it detect it if you press the PS button after loading a game?

Generic USB controllers don't work with PS2 BC games, for whatever reason; however, usually controllers/USB adaptors with a PS button do work.

I can navigate the XMB with it, and when I load the game I get a "press the PS button" prompt. It just doesn't seem to recognise it from there.

This might be obvious. But perhaps you are not pressing the PS Button all the way in.

That controller has a really difficult-to-press, small, and highly-recessed PS Button. Get something small and pointy (but not sharp!) to press it and test.

Haha, I've been using a pen lid.

I bought Kokuga this weekend. Very awesome! Really enjoying the design. There are things that remind me of Jackal, Vindicators, and more modern shooters, too. It's absolutely worth the $15 IMO. Also, the 3D is really nifty. Glad I purchased.

I also got Liberation Maiden, Suda 51's 3D shooter for the 3DS where you're the President of Japan flying a mech. Haven't tried that yet, but it certainly looks cool.

There is a new patch for "Under Defeat HD" (PS3 JP - 1.02). My PS+ downloaded yesterday on their own.

Someone knows what it does?

It's an update for both the PS3 and 360 ports, and it does the following:

Adds the new mode "New Order+", which matches the latest version of the mode "UD HD+" in the ALL.Net P-ras MULTI arcade release.

The player select screen has been altered to make way for new DLC ships.

Fixes some bugs/issues with music and sound effects.

Fixed an issue with the laeaderboards (360 port only).

360 version of the update also contains all of the fixes/additions that were in the PS3 version of the 1.01 update.
