Shoot the Core! - Gaf Shoot ‘em Up (aka Shooter/SHMUP) Reference Thread

FE and Mini are my only native PS3 sticks. If YB brings the game to the shmupmeet tomorrow I can see if it works with the mini and my inPin controller converters.

I can bring the triple with the game on it to the quarterly meet.

Should I bring anything else. Like my Pengo/Combat Zeal, or did you get it yet?

And, yeah, I'll remember the j-3DS this time.

I haven't gotten anything new since last time. Can't speak for the others.

Kirby Triple puzzle just came out in NA so I'll get all those pieces eventually. Need the pink pieces for Darumeshi Sports Shop (never coming out in NA, NA got a different puzzle for the localized version of the game) and Monster Hunter 4.

I'm bringing the big VGA PGM for 360 playback...even if it stays in the car. At least an option. I've got Darumeshi on my japanese unit but only the free part. My kirby just shipped today so I won't have that.

I'll bring the CombatZeal for sure.

Oh yeah, got that new DSi shooter on my 3DS if anybody wants to check it out...it is pretty cool.

I missed it live, so I checked shmups.com. Crimzon Clover NESICA ver. on Steam eh? Neat.

OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!

Holy shit. Holy shit. Holy shit...Cant breathe...my God I'll finally get to play the nessica version. Crimzon Clover is probably my most played shmup followed by Akai Katana. Holy Crap I never thought Id see the Nessica version.

I think I know what I'm modding my stick to celebrate next.

PRAISE THE SUN, BY THE NINES!

This game is fucking hard as hell though, I can only get to the stage 3 boss on one credit. I still want a physical one, but day 1.

Oh, that sounds interesting. What are the changes for this version?

The arcade version had a new ship, a new game mode and improved graphics (WAY improved).

@shaowebb: Go make a new thread about it before someone with a red name tag comes in here and yells at us for hiding new news in old mega threads.

!!!

Glad I waited!

I was about to bug thetrin in the Gunhound thread about Crimzon Clover, lol. Who's releasing this one?

We tested Raiden IV Overkill with three more controller types:

Hori Fighting Stick Mini 3: Does not work
MadCatz 360 stick with TE Kitty: Works (May need to set lever switch to Left stick)
PS2 stick with inPin adapter: Works

Thanks for the tip. Maybe I'll get on of those adapters and use my RAP 2.

Excuse my large number of questions here and in CaveGAF, but I just got a discount coupon from Steam for Luftrausers. Can I get some impressions?

*Sigh* Stunfest and this Maryland meetup...totally my kind of venues. Maybe in two years....

Props on SF for the two Puyo games! XD

I finally gave TwinBee a proper chance today. I've played it before, but only for a few minutes. Now that I completed the first loop I must admit, I really like the game. The bells annoyed me before, but after reading through the manual, I finally understand them and it's actually fun.
The game is a bit easy and short, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Though when I lost my powerups on the last stage, I quickly lost a couple of lives.
I played the 3D Classics version on 3DS. I really like the 3D effect in those, the Xevious port is easily my favorite version of that game. Anyway, I'm glad I finally gave the game a chance.

Some details about the Crimzon Clover Steam port.

http://yotsubane.blog99.fc2.com/blog-entry-62.html

「Crimzon Clover WORLD IGNITION」
  • Based on NESiCAxLive version, with new stuff added like Training Mode
  • Published be Degica who published stuff like A-Train and RPG Maker on Steam
  • Has Achievements, Leaderboards, and Trading card support
  • Almost done, releasing soon (May-ish?)

Nice! This is good news. My guess is the $15/20 range.

I'll pay whatever, this game looks great and this whole thing rules.

People point to international publishing joints like Deep Silver and KISS getting Japanese games on Steam as a sign that it's taking off among Japanese developers, but shit like this and Ikaruga, where the developers themselves are taking the initiative, are what really get me hopeful.

What do you guys think the system requirements for Crimzon Clover are going to be? What kind of specs should a builder aim for to run it and Ikaruga at 768p60?

Honestly? I think it'll be tough to build a PC with new components today and not have a machine powerful enough. I'd grab a 750ti just in case (assuming you might some day want to play some 3D games), probably.

I can't imagine that these games are too demanding. The Type-X2 spec is pretty damn out-dated by now (I don't think these games are using the newer Type-X3 setup yet):
  • Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo E6400
  • DDR2-800MHz 4GB
  • ATI(R) RADEON(TM) X1600Pro or
  • nVIDIA(R) GeForce(TM) 7900GS
  • Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Embedded SP2

Even a $300 Dell can out perform that setup.

Personally, whenever I build a system I spend $100 on each component. A $100 CPU, a $100 GPU, a $100 motherboard, $100 worth of RAM, a $100 hard drive a $100 case+psu and you're golden.

Twin Bee is a great series. Discovered it through Microsoft's Game Room bizzarely enough. If you can, try out Detana!! TwinBee Deluxe Pack on the Sega Saturn.

R-Type Dimensions is finally coming to the European and NA PSN on May 21st and May 20th, respectively. Price on the US PSN is $9.99, didn't see any price for Europe yet.

Edit: There's a thread for this now.

Raiden IV: Overkill received a patch. It just prompted me for version 1.01 when I started the game. I hope this fixes the controller problems people seem to be having. I have nothing to test it with, though.

Ah ha. Thanks for the tip. I'll check my sticks tonight when I get home.

I would imagine not. After the Overkill fiasco, I tried my most bootleg setup I could come up with, Wii-to-USB adapter and TvC MadCatz stick. Ketsui worked like a charm.
That's reassuring. I have a seimitsu'd HRAP2 I use with a converter for some games. That's the way I want to go when playing STG, since my native PS3 sticks are all sanwa.
