This game is insane. It's a Touhou-themed sugoi-ass STG, but the twist is that it's played in a 3D volume rather than on a 2D plane, and your character can jump over things and make use of 3D terrain while dodging bullets that can be come from all those extra directions. I've tried this in 2D. It's a cool proof-of-concept in 2D, but I often had trouble making sense of what was going on, and the camera rotation controls were pretty clunky and not really enough to get an immediate sense of the playfield. But now, with the Rift? It's utterly nuts how effortlessly the headset turned the unreadable 2D version of this game into something crystal clear and immediately understandable. Maybe too much so, lol, which might explain why it's so easy on Normal (that and you get a shitload of extends). It works so well. One of the nicest things about playing danmaku games in tate with a big screen right in your face is that you can have such a close view of your character as you navigate through tight spots, yet in this the view is already so engulfing, and if you feel you need a closer view, you can just naturally lean in. Lunatic is great fun so far. I'd love to see more games like this, preferably with cooler themes.
I'm also working on a Rift-based STG-esque (kinda-sorta) game myself, so this is extra motivating.
