Wow, if that's not a rousing endorsement, then I don't know what is!callous said:Border Down, to me, is the pinnacle of horisontal shmups. Everything from the sub-genre perfected. You've got gorgeous graphical design, equally inspiring music, a gameplay system that is at once incredibly simple to use yet with so much depth to master. Widely varying levels with great bosses, a difficulty level that is just right and so on. It's feels classic and fresh at the same time. It's just such a quality package. I would probably marry it if I could.
tiny bullets on detailed backgrounds that are mostly brown or gray, along with debris that is the same color as everything else.ghibli99 said::lol I think Garegga's worse in that respect.![]()
most people dont like chaos field, not sure what else there is to say about it cause i havent played it. if you do decide to try it for the hell of it, the gamecube one is supposed to be improved over the dc one (no slowdown, new arrange like mode, and maybe some other stuff).Border Down and Chaos Field... can you guys tell me more about these?
you are now on my enemies list. unless you at least mention some examples instead of clumping all manics together. its not like gradius v and ikaruga dont have shitloads of bullets either.metropolis said:these games have so much class compared to those new school bullet-spray auto-death shoot em ups (well as classy as games with dripping brains and intestines can be)

QFT. Now if only I could see the pick-ups better!japtor said:caves best influence on ibara are the bright colorful bullets.
Cool, AI used to be a regular spot of mine... usually at the IIDX machine or shooter/fighter alley. Then again, I haven't been there since New Year's Eve 2004.japtor said:i never really got into border down when i tried when it came out, but i enjoyed it the last time i played it, which was like a year or two ago at arcade infinity.
Man, I could *not* get into that game.metropolis said:i changed my mind about r-type final. it's great. sure, it's not as good as r-type delta but i still love it.

Looking at that list, the RAP SA looks like your best bet if you want all Sanwa parts.
japtor said:...going from vague memory here... the older sega virtua stick used sega parts. not as nice as sanwa/seimitsu, but decent. i think i read somewhere the new virtua sticks (ps2 and usb) use sanwa sticks, not 100% sure at all on that though. theyre moddable if you want, but its not a straight swap, gotta hack off a little plastic here and there iirc...
Yeah, after some digging, my search came up empty as well. From what I've read, both the SA and SE sticks sold out almost instantly, and were only offered through Hori's site via mail order.j^aws said:Cheers, that RAP SA looks *ultra* rare. Ebay would seem my only hope, if they ever turn up that is! Otherwise a modded RAP2 would suffice...
well i hate takumi games (other than mars matrix), so im fine with that (although i hate them for the 56468146810584681351384358153138435435023 point scores as much as the gameplay). i love ikaruga too, but its not like a bullet hell game cant be just as refined.metropolis said:oh calm down. just because i like r-type and ikaruga better doesn't mean i don't also love other shooters. i love all shooter games.. but i just think ikaruga and gradius are a more refined experience than those mars matrix or gigawing bullet spraying type games. having said that i have those games also. i have pretty much all shooter games and i like almost all of them.
the few times i got to go there, iirc the only shooters they had there were ikaruga, border down, and strikers 1945+ (strikers II for neo-geo basically). a bit lacking, but not bad. im still annoyed that i never remembered to try out fzero.ghibli99 said:Cool, AI used to be a regular spot of mine... usually at the IIDX machine or shooter/fighter alley. maybe it was the usb one...although now im doubting it. im pretty sure the new sega arcade panel controller is all sanwa (or seimitsu) stuff at least.j^aws said:...the internals of the new SVS don't seem to house a Sanwa stick compared to the pics of the RAPs in the link. Looks like a Sega stock part...
never used the hori ones, but im guessing its not a huge difference. sanwa buttons are soft/light touch to begin with, so its probably not gonna be a drastic change, like going from a crappy cheapo stick with spongy buttons to one with happ buttons w/clicky switches. if you do get a hrap, you should just try out the hori buttons for a while before deciding whether or not to switch.ghibli99 said:How different do the Sanwa buttons feel compared to the Hori buttons?

just saw something on shmups today about them actually:Zweisy1 said:Is Triangle Service still around?
im guessing that whoever is left at triangle service did some contract work on shiki 3. from some shooter company interview thing a while back (in edge?), i remember them saying they do random work (programming, music, art, whatever) for other companies between games to keep income coming in.http://shmups.system11.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7725 said:Hey! Spot the Robot in Shiki III!
Apparently that's what Triangle Service wants you to do, judging by their new front page. That brownstoney mech from Trizeal LIFTING supposedly makes a cameo appearance in Shikigami No Shiro III.
Whoever does spot it, and e-mails the linkie on that page with proof (and/or an explaination?), gets a free poster, which might be the one being included in the SegaDirect LE of Trizeal PS2.
Sounds pretty nifty.
