Should I attempt graphic design if I can't draw?

Here's the thing: I love design, especially text design. Logos, wordmarks, stuff like that really intrigues me.

And lately, I've been getting the itch to go back to school and get a degree in graphic design. But the problem is I can't draw worth a crap. Is this a potential pitfall or should I just get a crapload of Photoshop and Illustrator and graphic design and layout books and just go at it myself?

Illustration is one branch of a pretty broad field. Having skills in layout, user interface design (if you're leaning towards the interactive end of things), and typography are all good to have. Would it be nice to be able to draw well? Sure, but it's probably not a deal breaker in most cases. Just having a good eye will put you ahead of a lot of people.

Sure you can. It may be frustrating at times, but there are ways of improvising if you're clever, resourceful and know your way around software.

Of course, being able to draw is a huge bonus, but not utterly necessary.

Go for it. Most graphic designers can't draw. Most illustrators can't do graphic design. Learn typography and you're good to go.
