Should I get Android tablet vs iPad?

So I like to play my games while I'm away from home. I could use both steam link to my computer and gamepass cloud. I would like some recommendations for the best tablets to do this. I prefer a bigger screen (which is probably on ipads). However, my phone is an android. If I go with an Android tablet, will I be able to still get texts on it? That would be the benefit if I do go with an android tablet.

If you have suggestions on devices it would be appreciated.

Top of the line sanding tablets (tab s11 and tab s11 ultra) are better multi use hardware than the iPad line imo. You have more flexibility of your content and it offers better integration with other hardware (dex, mice keyboards gamepads etc).

The issues is how expensive they are. You can get just as far using a One Plus tablet or even better result if you import something from South Korea/china (xaomi or huewei).

So the iPads…are great pieces of hardware used in the Apple ecosystem system. They support both Xbox and ps dual shock/sense controllers, have plenty of streaming apps as well. The core issue is the locked down nature of the devices. The iPad Pro with the m5 chip is the fastest "thing" (outside of high end laptops) I have used for my day to day work load. I love them but they are very expensive and extremely locked down.

Tablets are basically used as content consumption devices, either streaming media or playing games. There's little or no difference between most tablets for these basic activities beyond the bare minimum of specs you'll need to play your favorite game well

The sole exception to this that I'm aware of is Genshin Impact where 120 fps support is iOS exclusive. It only runs at 60 fps on Android and PC though it's easy to hack the PC version to add 120 fps support

Gaming on cloud: Android wins. No hassle, and bluetooth controllers and whatnot. Apple still has bullshit here and there

Better screen: iPad wins. Size and quality Apple is the king. You can maybe even see that are close to the same look, Apple always has a cherry on top

SMS: Android is the way if you have Android. If your phone is Samsung it's even better sync. But still, using a Google account works fine with whatever Android devices you have

Nowadays the competition is 1:1, but since you already have an Android, stick with it. Although if you ever go to iPhone, then going full into the ecosystem makes it better than Android. Like I said, they always have a cherry on top

Maybe stupid question but why not buying a Steam Deck directly ? It's great for cloud gaming, and local gaming as well, and costs more or less (or even way less) than a decent tablet.

I actually do have that and I love it, but sometimes I still want a bigger screen and to use my Xbox controller. I know I can do this with SD as well. But, I also just generally want a tablet to scroll on when me and my lady are chilling

I have an Android phone and wouldn't ever switch to iPhone due to iOS. But I do love iPadOS, even if it can feel restrictive and suffocating at times. I haven't tried out Android tablets, but from everything I've heard iPads are the best overall packages. What they do they do very well. I think you'd also need to look at whether you want the openness of Android or the very refined and fluid iPadOS. But if you have really simples use cases then you can probably get a cheaper Android. Heck, the Oneplus Pad 3 is comparable to iPad Pro, but half the price.

I don't know about texts, there's probably third-party apps but nothing as fluid as iPhone-to-iPad. Speaking for myself I prefer to only get messages on my phone. I've even removed that functionality from my computer as I don't like distractions. I've even removed most notifications from my iPad Pro. Try it out, you'll enjoy what you do a lot more.

As far as Android tablets go, you can't go wrong with the newest OnePlus tablets. And yes, you can link your texts to it.

Typing this on my $275 iPad 2025 (A16)

That's about how much I'm willing to spend on a media consumption device

It plays games pretty well, the 2022 era Apple A16 SoC seems fine for that

I'm browsing on a refurbished 2018 ipad pro, still runs extremely well. Apple OS support is legit, I expect I'll get to a decade before having to ditch this tablet. Apple certified refurbished products come with the same warranty as brand new. Add educational or veteran discount, and save further.
