i'm debating with whether to sign up for myspace.com. I'm already on thefacebook.com... i'm wondering if this myspace thing is overkill. Then again it sounds pretty interesting.

whatch'all think?

I fucking hate the premise of it [basically a big popularity contest], but I still found myself creating a site.

I've gone overkill- Xanga, Blogger, MySpace.

bleh.

i think it's shit. too goddamn cluttered and most user profiles are fuck HIDOUS. and god help you when you stumble upon a profile with an embedded windows media player blaring the latest from papa roach.

same here. I know some people that actually get MAD when people don't leave them messages regularly on their myspace profile, when they LIVE IN THE SAME CITY. Pick up a phone, dipshit!

:lol what's funny about it is that's the only people who talk about it to me, hahaha.

ok. thanks. i was hesitant for a reason, it seems.

Only thing myspace is good for is the user profiles that Schafer registered for the campers of Psychonauts. So hillarious.

Other than that, most of the people on that website are insane.

It's always funny to me whenever I stumble across "Stephanie McMahon" or "Paris Hilton"'s page. And then even MORE funny to read the comments from the idiots who think it's actually that person.

I have a MySpace page, purely as a time waster at work. I rarely even go there otherwise. And half the people on my friends list are on my IM anyway, so I talk to them through that. So I guess I don't see the point either.

Heh, welcome to GAF. Enjoy your short stay.
Hear hear!

I also have a myspace account. The premise is fucked because no one wishes to meet anyone else on the interweb on A WEBSITE TO MEET PEOPLE THROUGH THE NET. But seriously it's not that big of a deal, it's no more of a community that AA meetings

I've got a myspace, mostly to listen to some indie bands that inhabit the site.

Some of them good, most of them suck, though.

Bash.org to the rescue!

random girl: hey!
me: ...hi?
me: who is this?
random girl: Jessica, I saw u on myspace
random girl: ur hot
me: thanks
random girl: np
me: this girl keeps bugging me, but I don't want to talk to her
me: what should I do?
random girl: make up sum excuse, like ur mom is kickin u off or sumthing
me: oh alright
me: I have to go
me: my mom is kicking me off
me: bye

<Ch0|sen> fuck I made a fake Myspace account posing as a bi blonde to get horny desperate internet guys to get me a free ipod and now all these hot lesbians are messaging me with "we should fuck"
<Ch0|sen> WHY CAN'T THESE BUXOM BI CHICKS LOVE ME AS I AM INSTEAD OF THE 20 YEAR OLD BLONDE COLLEGE STUDENT I PORTRAY ON THE INTERNET

That's about the whole 9 yards

Hey! I forgot that I had a myspace profile.

I don't put much about myself on the site. I initially joined because one of my friends wanted me to comment on their profile pictures or something like that.

I have a profile, actually I just joined the GAF group =P A lot of the profiles are truly hideos, especially the ones with epilepsy-inducing animated backgrounds, embedded media files that play the latest R&B song, the ones overloaded with "bratz" style pictures and atrocious color schemes. But at the same time there are a few decent looking girls on this site. I'm too shy so I've been meeting girls on the internet lately (shrug)

umm hell no,
I found out thru a friend(girl) that another younger female(a friend of mine, not close though)
had me as one of her "interests" on her page-
so, I thought cool and joined myspace to thank her- I then proceeded to fill out her
"about me questionaire" and one of the questions was
Is there anything you wanted to ask me, but havent? So, I put down
yeah, do you lapdance
needless to say- this didnt go over well with her, and Ive been apologizing since then
ugghhh-- Myspace is Evil

I've been with Frienster for a while and have actually met some cool people. I've also met a few folks from MySpace and they were all uber obnixious. MySpace is the "super trendy and cooler" version of Friendster, and they are almost all drama queens and the such. I have actually dated women I met on Friendster but wouldn't even think of doing the same with some chick on MySpace.

Quite a few do just what Ninja Scooter described, and what's worse is when MySpace users spam the Friendster message boards about how much cooler MySpace is and how you're lame if you use Friendster.

Many of them clearly have no lives with all the insane amount of tweaking some folks do, embedding all sorts of shit that will crash your computer no matter what.

I am connected with a few folks via the GAF though, and they seem sane.

has anyone actually met up with anyone in real life by using these things?

I think I'm getting old or something, these sites just seem like a replacement for real life instead of an aid to meet people.

i became addicted to myspace for 2 weeks, where all i would do is check myspace constantly...now i dont check it.

the moral: its a very addictive 1st 2 weeks

I was propositioned last week, I never replied to the chick though even though her pics were cute. I dont' want to meet some psycho lady who's plotting to chomp off my instrument.

Well I met my current GF on myspace. Sure we both went to the same college and all, but I wouldn't have known she was in Chicago if it weren't for Myspace.

Still I would say myspace is worthless for anything other than music.

a lot of what has been said is true. however, if you are assertive and keep at it, you can probably meet some girls (even if you're not that "hot") if that is what you want to do. or you could just register and do nothing with it. i exchange messages with 6/7 girls per day.. here is a conversation i had today with a pretty attractive girl:

"are you pakistani or indian or what? because you're not really my type, but one of my best friends is obsessed with idian men.... anyways, she's really cute, maybe you should meet her.

--Kat ;)"

"lol, its cool. im actually from neither of those countries. im from bangladesh (little country on the right side of india). i went there a couple summers ago, for the first time since i was three.. quite a culture shock. anyway, does your friend have myspace? its always nice to talk too and deconstruct new people.

sajed"

" I know this girl from bangladesh.. But she's sort of irritating. Or stuck up actually, then again I'm a little stuck up so i guess you just can't put two uppity people in the same room. Speaking of two, it's "talk TO new people" not "talk TOO." you should read my people i want to meet thing, and you'll understand why i corrected you. WORK IS SO BORING! I THINK IM GOING TO LOSE IT. No, she doesn't have myspace, but i hang out with her and her sister pretty much every day, you could come out with us sometime.

--K ;)"

so, you see.. people on the site are basically friendly and even a fairly average "foriegn" guy like myself can find people to meet up with, if thats what i want to do.

I met some girl on there who lives like 5 minutes away. She was pretty cool, she was going to school to be an RN, and she worked at Stop and Shop. She also really likes Shadow Hearts :D But I'm not really ready to jump into a relationship again, I don't really know what I want right now :P

I have a myspace account but I usually just use it as a area to vent and rant online with some possible exposure. Most people won't listen to you unless you've got a pic and are considered hot so I don't get many views.

Actually, everybody on my buddy list are people I know. Well, I use Friendster a lot more than MySpace, but I use those type of internet tools to keep in touch with friends, especially those that live halfway around the world and in another time zone. It just makes things a lot easier. :)
