Should we change “disabled” to “diffabled?”

As you know, “disabled” means “disappointingly abled.” That seems a little insensitive for 2020.

In this story I’m making up I saw a squirrel earlier today missing its back legs. It was using its front paws and tail in a snowmobile configuration to scoot along the ground, up trees, etc. This squirrels ability was anything but disappointing.. it was just different.

Also, “diffability” is easier to say if you have a speech diffability.

IDK if real but..

dis- 1. a Latin prefix meaning “apart,” “asunder,” “away,” “utterly,” or having a privative, negative, or reversing force (see de-, un-2); used freely, especially with these latter senses, as an English formative: disability; disaffirm; disbar; disbelief; discontent; dishearten; dislike; disown.

The desire to want to call someone who, for example, has no function in their arms or legs "differently abled" makes me laugh. Yeah it's differently abled in the same way my car functions differently after it crumples in a car accident. One is clearly preferable and more functional for the tasks it was designed for, and normal people understand that being disabled has no bearing on your worth as a person. It makes many people stronger in certain senses, look at Terry Fox, absolute legend. Your worth is on the inside. But sure whatever helps you sleep at night loonies, we all know which abled you'd rather be if you had a choice.

What different abilities do they have? I too have the ability to sit down all day, or shit my pants, or only use one arm, or hop on one leg,. Maybe lackabled would be better, as they lack abilities.

"Disabled" isn't very accurate IMO. The things some of these people do seem impossible for me. Like how the hell can you do things so easily using your feet? There was this guy playing videogames efficiently using his chin. And a blind guy who finished Ocarina of Time by only listening to it's sounds. How many of "abled" people can do these feats? I mean i get it, they didn't really have any other choice but they could choose not to play games (for example) and do something else for entertainment.

I guess they are offended now.

They are trying to be treated as normal individuals but all those changes are hurting their efforts to be seen as normal.
Honest and direct language is what's best for everyone. I don't care if they're offended.

I'm fully on board and actually think you're a bit of a genius.

In honour of you Stouffers Stouffers I'm gonna start using this and see what kind of response I get in the 'real' world.

Time to start hanging around outside diffabled toilets so that I can casually drop it into conversation.
