Show us your gaming setup: 2007 edition

This thread again reminds me why I need to hurry and sell my present home and get that full basement. We just had a baby and we definately need the space. 80% of my gaming collection is in storage. My old office is now my son's room.

My wife finally wants to get a nice huge HDTV, but we just don't have the room. She's a diehard football fan and DirecTV Sunday ticket has her determined to represent properly for next years football session at our home with friends. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the housing market perks up in 2007. No since in buying a 60 plus inch DLP set with no place to put it. Looking at some of the setups above make me green with envy. It even hurts more knowing I can get an excellent deal on an HDTV set and I can get my hands on some classic coin-ops for cheap. AARRGH!! Sorry to digress, but seeing this thread makes me so sad. :(\

I'll post a pic of my current setup later. Not bad at , but not as good as it COULD be.........for a tech junky like myself. :)

Not the best picture, but oh well.

Not much has changed on my setup, mainly because I have no idea where to put the PS3 :(

Well, why are those Xboxes there? And, you could try to put the PS3 vertically between the two 360s.

I tried and the heat was incredible on top of the PS3. For some reason the 360s manage to get the heat out of the casing easily, but with the PS3 it stays there.
As for the Xboxes, I could remove the one on the lower right (since the other is my XMBC box), but I'd never put the PS3 in there, not enough room for the heat dissipation.

Is that the Logitech Z-5450/Z-5500. If so which one and how is it? I am considering them at the moment.

My PS3 gets hot on top even if I put it in the refrigerator ;)
I dont think it's an issue with that piece of furniture. My PS3 is placed in an open space, and it still gets hot on top (vertically).

Does it get that hot where you have it now?

You should be more warned about the air temperature alongside the other vents (where there air comes in). If it gets fresh air it's ok, whatever the exiting air temperature is.

It gets hot, but not as hot as if I put it at the place of one of the 360s. I don't trust any of my next-gen hardware with heat, so I'm not taking any risks.

It's the one without the wireless speakers. It's pretty good. At half the volume it already fills up the entire room. It's 300euro, 5.1 and I like it. I can't justify spending more on an audio system atm. There's already a new model out in this series so you better get that one.

That seems to be the latest one, the Z-5500. Though it looks like that one only has 1 optical input compared to the older Z-5450 which has 2. I would lean towards the Z-5450 because of this but I'm not sure about wireless speakers. Presumably they use AA batteries but its not specified :/ any know?

I also need to make a trip to IKEA (need something cheap) to pick out a new stand... something functional... but quasi-stylish. I love the stands in the Sony Style store... but I'm not looking to spend more than $250... I've got a serious problem when the stand costs more than the components... you know?
I agree...I wouldn't have bought that specific stand if I didn't get it for half price.

Ikea has some decent stands: http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stor...7071*15641*15962&categoryId=15962&cattype=sub

Specifically for larger sets the Oppli is nice and cheap and not too high, but it doesn't seem to be available in black anymore.

Tanukid & I have a modest little setup for the time being. We'll probably upgrade to HD later this year, but for now, since we don't have any next-gen platforms, we're content with what we have.

Game_setup.JPG

Not all of our consoles, but it's what our setup looks like at the moment. Handhelds just there because we grab those when the mood strikes. Otherwise it's mostly the consoles that are there.

Game_drawer.JPG

Where we primarily keep our collection. Not including our Dreamcast, NES, N64, GC, PS2 and handheld (except NGPC) libraries.

But seeing the nice HD setups here, gives people like me something to shoot for I think. Keep 'em coming! :D
I feel like I lived with you...

I took a bunch of pictures of my tv but I had the digital zoom on 99% of them so they all came out blurry. A the only ones I had the digital zoom off on was the ones I had the flash on with so those didnt come out good either. Heres two pictures, I'll take some more later with better settings (and when it's darker outside, lots of light comes into where my tv is). Still learning on how to take pictures of a TV.

Nothing special. I moved in a few weeks ago and am FINALLY almost 100% finished getting everything sorted out.

Well, I got a new 1080P tv and a Xbox 360, but my setup sucks so I'd rather not show pictures yet.

I'm looking for a TV stand, so I'll definatley be browsing this thread though and I'll post my setup if and when I get it done.

Yeah saw the Oppli... interests me quite a bit. I don't need it in black, however, it would have been nice considering my Samsung 32" is. But whatever...

I've always been a fan of glass too... so... the Gillsby is something I'm also looking at heavily (I'm limited width wise so... this is very attractive). The two things that piss me off about glass... how dirty it will get... and the fact that I will most likely see the wires behind there.

The Gillsby gives me room to add bookshelf speakers on the side, so... I may go this route in the end.

Hopefuly I can find a HD set this year that doesnt piss me off in some way. LCDs and DLPs are not cutting it. Any recommendations for CRTs that are still available?

Normally, I'd post an image (or several) of my gaming setup, but 1) it isn't completely clean and 2) I got a new T.V. (well, it's not actually in my room yet; it's still at Best Buy waiting to be picked up) that I haven't setup yet.

I'll try to get some images up soon.

How much did you pay for the TV?

After tax, $562.44, but it was a limited time thing as they had a "New Year's 3-Day Sale" where you could save some money off certain HDTVs, etc. The sale ended Tuesday.

Where'd you get a case like that? I've been meaning to hunt down something similar but I'm having no luck at all.

This is sort of inspiring me to clean up my room and post pics of my new rig.

i've been wanting to buy them, but they've been out of stock on newegg and I'd like to read some impressions of it first.

sorta butting in.. but i have the z5500's and they're fantastic for the price. real powerful.

theyve got coax, optical and 3x minijack-in inputs so pretty good for gaming stuff (well, my gaming stuff :P)

They're improved from the Z680s which I have.

Good sound; extremely loud bass, and produces the best volume for the buck. Mids and highs are a tad muted, at least compared to the bass... but still, better performance than anything in the price range.

They've also fixed hissing and fluttering issues that were prelevant in the Z680s.

The pod has a faster, snappier response as well.

Their main drawbacks is the lack of inputs; 1 optical, a set of 3 8mm for computer surround sound, 1 digital coax and 1 8mm AUX port.
That said, for a modest setup, you can easily grab a cheap optical switch; 20 bucks will give you 3 extra optical ports. easily handles a X360, a PS3 and a DVD player or a STB.
The Wii can plug into the aux port courtesy of an adapter.

If you're going for sound value at this price range, these are it. Indeed, they beat out most 1000$ HTiaB setups (although obviously, there are some better at that price range).

yup, im using both and the z680s have a weird hissing sound when optical is used. plus the control centre is ugly :P

Thanks guys, guess I'll be buying them then. Everything I've read about the Z5500s has been very positive and they are in my price range ($269 at Newegg.com).

My only other question now is if they are sold in retail stores or just online? I can never find them in any stores.

They're sold everywhere. They're probably just constantly sold out :p

nah, try a dedicated PC retailer. Should have them.

Or just go online.

Not much changed from last year... I bought a PS3, a new TV (Bravia KDL 40V2000), a digital cable receiver and the sun faceplate for my beloved X360. The big cable mess is still there. :(

If I ever let any part of our house get that cluttered, I'd get hit with a broom, no question.
