Shrek 5 will completely reinvent the series

I don't know if Shrek 5 is a good idea. The whole series was born out of seeming malice, and it has always struck to me as pretty mean-spirited. Dreamworks has evolved past that mean-spiritedness with their later movies (Kung Fu Panda, HTTYD).

It's more progression. With Kung Fun Panda 1-3 I at least felt Po was making at least small character progression and a wistful kind of earnestness.

Shrek 1-4: "Raaaaghhh I'm anngggry"

No, I mean Shrek as a series feels like it was born from Jeffrey Katzenberg's malice against Disney. If you are going to parody something, don't do it out of malice.

Shrek... in SPACE

They made four Shrek movies already?!?!

Why.

I guess Mike Myers coming out of semi-retirement is cool but these movies suck.

They're going to soft-reboot the franchise with Shrek's son, ironically drawing from the principal idea for the original film when Chris Farley was onboard in the title role, where the film would revolve around a younger, teenaged version of the character who rebels from his parents.

Count on it.

Shrek is hardly an example of amazing writing, but there is a clear progression there. Like they literally show and ell us in Shrek 4 how much he's changed.

can't wait for the first trailer featuring a moody off-kilter cover of smash mouth's allstar

edit: i should read someone made this exact joke already except snappier

Shrek 2 is still one of the funniest movies I've ever seen in theaters. Please go back to being fairy tale satire.

Shrek+Minions+Smash Mouth= 1 billion dollar film franchise

Not gonna lie I love the minions, I'd be at a midnight showing for this.

Did you miss the part where each film made close to a billion? If it weren't for Kung Fu Panda they would still be making them.

I heard a story that Myers has some kind of crazy salary demand, something along the lines of one hundred million for a movie.
I guess that's his way of being retired, basically no one will give him that so he doesn't have to do anything.
I guess Myers wallet is getting thin and Shrek five is re-invented.

Well there is atleast alot to parody now, given how much Disney relies again on the Princess formula.

Gritty Shrek reboot. Call it "The Shrek".

There will be close to 10 years gap between Shrek 4 and Shrek 5, damn. Can't say what can they do to "reinvent" it? Will they go the full on comedy route or grimdark one?

Script is by the writer of Austin Power 2+3 and Boss Baby.

Announced last July 2016 and will release 3 years later ? Thats some long ass production

That is actually rather short

Translation: Shitty attempt to make Shreks child the focus so they can do some shitty shitty transitional type film where Shrek mentors the child on some shitty adventure in the hope that they can make Shrek 6 without having to pay Myers, Diaz and / Murphy

I did actually like Shrek 4 as a closing film of the franchise, disliked 2 and 3 and thought 1 was good

Murphy is pretty much on board.

Shrek 1-4: "Raaaaghhh I'm anngggry"

Found love in the first, acceptance by the parents in the second, became dad and king in the third, learned to accept it in the fourth.

A Tom Waits or Eels cover? I would be down for that.

Thats rubbish

R rated Shrek that attempts to give him "depth" as a character and explores his fragile psyche so we can all understand why he is the way he is. Because you know, maybe we're not that different from him.

Shrek 5: Brutal, Savage, Shrekt

Whatever happened to Mike Myers's career after the Love Guru anyway?

Shrek can't exist without that character and Donkey. It's a buddy comedy at heart. So unless they retroactively change the timeline of the series it can't be a prequel. Which means they'll have to age Shrek and cohort past the point of where they were at in Forever After.

I guess empty nester Shrek no longer saddled with the responsibilities of fatherhood could be a good premise to start with.
