I've spent about 2 and 1/2 years of my life in Japan - eaten a lot of shrimp. And mantis shrimp. And 'ise ebi'. This here might not be much to look at, but it's at the top of my list. Ebi ten don (shrimp tempura bowl) in the Gion district of Kyoto. Those shrimp are each about 7-8 inches long btw.

Will keep in mind if I ever end up in Kyoto, thanks!

In Denmark we have these tiny shrimp called 'fjordrejer' and they are divine. Takes forever to peel enough for a slice of bread though.

Truth. Shrimp has a weird consistency to me. Kind of a gummy, almost crunchy consistency. Those probably aren't the right words, but it's just different than other seafood that I eat. Fried shrimp takes care of some of the consistency problems for me, but I still don't go out of my way to order it. If it's put in front of me, I'll eat it.

Looks delicious! I'm headed to Kyoto in a few weeks. What's the name of this place? Anything else you'd recommend?

My personal favorite shrimp, Spanish red carabineros with just olive and salt. Sucking the juices out of the head might be my favorite bite of food in the world.

I don't eat shrimp, I think I'm allergic. Every time I've tried it my tongue literally starts to itch like crazy for a few minutes. Same thing happens with lobster as well which is a shame cause lobster taste pretty good.
