With all this talk of american remake of The Grudge, I said why not review the region3 dvd of the original movie. I bought it from yesasia.com (shuri recommends them) a few months ago. It's a pretty barebone dvd tho. No extras. English subs along with two chinese sets (since this is the hong kong dvd release) are available.
It's hard to review this dvd without giving away major plot points, and since the remake is pretty much a shot per shot remake, well i dont want to spoil the remake too. So check out the other Grudge threads for more details

I really liked Ju-On. It's a great atmospheric horror movie. They dont show lots of gore, a lot of the movie is left to the interpretation of the viewer, and I think thats what make it scarier than most horror flicks.
As for the dvd, you have two audio tracks, ac3 5.1 and 2.0 stereo. Great tracks overall, A good efficient use of sound effects. Nothing more to say. The menus got little transitions with scenes from the flick. It's pretty simple, as with most hk edition of movies.
dvd imports protip: dont waste money on buying the japanese sets of Ju-On (or of most japanese movies), since for some reasons, japanese editions are usually 3-4 more expensive than the *LEGIT* hong kong version for no reasons at all.
Movie: 8/10
DVD: 7/10. It's not a bad dvd disk, it's just not something special. They could have done much more
