A guy named toolboy over at http://www.ps2ownz.com/ has created a tutorial with patches to get that GT4 disc of yours onto your PS2 HDD.

It would pay to read the entire thread first, something which I haven't done yet. The good news however is that it works, if it is a bit of a long winded exercise. Along with all the patches linked in the thread, you will need a program called Apache2 to extract both layers of the game.
I can see patches for the US, PAL, Japanese and Korean versions GT4.
Also, this is NOT a warez site. You would be a fool not to think that some people are using things like this for piracy, but such things cannot be helped.
