Total worldwide shipments and digital sales for the remake of survival horror game Silent Hill 2 have surpassed one million units worldwide, publisher Konami and developer Bloober Team announced.

Silent Hill 2 launched for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam on October 8.

Here is an overview of the game, via Konami:

About
Having received a letter from his deceased wife, James heads to where they shared so many memories, in the hope of seeing her one more time: Silent Hill. There, by the lake, he finds a woman eerily similar to her…
“My name…is Maria,” the woman smiles. Her face, her voice… She’s just like her.

Experience a master-class in psychological survival horror—lauded as the best in the series—on the latest hardware with chilling visuals and visceral sounds.
Key Features
  • High-end Graphics and Sound – With ray tracing and other cutting-edge technical enhancements, the world of Silent Hill and its unsettling ambiance is even realer than before. And with the inclusion of new, immersive soundscapes, you’ll feel like you’re standing in the thick of it.
  • Larger Environments – Explore locations and buildings that were once inaccessible, or are newly added in the remake.
Enjoy the same acclaimed story, even while you experience the town of Silent Hill with fresh eyes across an expanded map.
  • Over-the-Shoulder Camera – The remake moves from the original’s fixed-camera viewpoints to an over-the-shoulder perspective, putting you closer to what James sees, for a more thrilling, more immersive experience as you explore the town and come face-to-face with monsters.
  • Evolved Combat Gameplay – Familiar weapons like the steel pipe and handgun make their return, but now with an updated combat system. Avoid attacks with carefully timed dodges, aim down sights, and more, making monster encounters more engaging and nerve-wracking then ever.

Hopefully it can do even more.

Easily GOTY 2024 so far. Not much else left for the year. Path of Exile 2 early access isn't a full game, but likely that'll be my favorite thing when it comes out soon.

The remake has sold what the original did in a month according to a Google search. Which could be wrong. Hopefully it’ll sell more. I say don’t watch someone play it, play it yourself. Totally worth it.

I'm sure this is great news for them, and I'm sure the number will climb over time. Considering Konami has been dormant for so long and they were slowly getting back into games, this is the best selling title they've had in a long time. SH1 is surely on the horizon, which is exciting to think about. I mean, it's a PS1 game, I'd LOVE to see it get the same treatment. Which means we also need 3...

I hope it does really well. So well that it would be dumb not to remake more. Also could be a resurgence story for Konami that makes them relevant again.

This will have legs, as far as I know, this is good for what it probably cost. Incredible game, personally I think this is the one which deserves 10 mil in first month, but we are no longer living in space where these games are real pullers

That's true. Konami seemingly getting out of the gaming industry in mid-2010 was NOT well-received by many gamers, as many of their IPs were thought lost such as Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid.

I'm especially looking forward to the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3. By gawd, Eva looks drop-dead gorgeous! 8D

Day 1 Purchase for that remake on the PS5 Pro.

Since it's a remake and already has the story and setting in place, and the cost of living where Blooper operates, it could be around $50 million or so for the game's budget.

Are these numbers good? Not sure for a game that released on both PS5 and PC.
For comparison, RE7 sold 2.5 million in one week, Alan Wake 2 sold around 1.3 million after 2 months so I'd say it's pretty good.
I don't think competing with RE7 was realistic, but reaching 1 million in such a short time surely is better since Alan Wake 2 for example which has yet to turn a profit.

Now it all depends on how much it cost to develop this remake.

And once again, this makes me think Alan Wake 2 being stuck in that piece of shit Epic Games store is completely ruining the game's chance to be successful. I know Epic funded it and all but those fuckers are literally throwing money away by not releasing it on Steam...

Worth mentioning the physical version being entirely sold out.
Estimated shipping on Amazon this morning was 3 to 6 months. Checked now and it's completely sold out again. Last copies from third party sellers were sold, two days ago, for €120.

And don’t discount the fact that the SH, as a series, is much scarier than RE, which “spooks” some people from buying it. Lots of people watching play throughs though.

Blooper did the right job convincing Konami to port this game to PC. I may be a loyal PlayStation fan but all of us know that PC Gaming is no longer the niche market it used to be when Silent Hill 2 was released back in 2001. If it means more sales and keeps the franchise alive in comparison to a true PS5 exclusive, then so bet it. We need more Silent Hill and not see it locked up in storage forever.

It will probably sell 6million+ lifetime, which is great for a Survival Horror Game, especially a Silent Hill game

Great result. This game will sell very well over time with good word of mouth and discounts.

Silent Hill is back, boys. Best news in a while.

Good start for a week. I'm sure it'll have a solid sales tail too just due to word of mouth.

For comparison, the RE2 remake sold 3 mil its first week. RE7 sold 2.5 mil. RE8 sold 3 mil. RE4 sold 3 mil in 2 days (lol). Not bad for SHs return after so long (with no Xbox release too).

Actually, it's 6 days (data snapshot is 11/10).

So far it by far the fastest selling Silent Hill game ever and I'm fairly confident that it's the most successfull entry in the series based on sheer revenue (not profit).

It is also an interesting signal to other publishers, because it turns out you can skip Xbox Series and still beat your internal records easily.

Xbox would have done next to nothing here.

As for comparisons to Resi, a bit pointless as that is much bigger than Silent Hill.

Just to put it in some context, whole Silent Hill series sold around 9 million units. So for Silent Hill it's monster numbers.

Very happy for the Bloober tho. They've deserved it.

That helps put things into perspective. I think the game will have good legs due to wom. It deserves more, I really think it’s a work of art.

And it managed to pull this off despite the garbage marketing as well.
I literally didn't care about this game at all until a day or two before it released, when people actually had the game on their hands and the game looked very good that's when I was convinced.
But those early trailers and gameplay... oof, I genuinely think the game might've lost sales due to people like me who were really put off by them.

But now the game is one of my goty contenders, funny how it all worked out.
