So I'm going to return the PS3 version

Question: Is the 360 version worth it, or is even that one a pile of crap?

I'd say so, the framerate is rock solid 60 FPS and unless you're super nitpicky like a lot of people in this thread, you're still going to enjoy playing these classic games.

Does the boat scene looks similar like to the gif or has the 360 version some actual good fog effects?

New title :lol

Is it bad if i'm actually enjoying these disastrous ports?

I would like to think that, at least at a base level, the games could still be enjoyed for their adventure elements, horror, and above all, narratives and symbolism. But in terms of presentation (i.e. visuals and audio), it seems pretty difficult to see a silver lining.

They're still good games but you're missing out on a lot. Just for example, there's a really tense and pivotal scene that's missing music and sound effects and now it has practically no impact compared to the original. It's just the voices.

Why though? Because it's missing some fog? Because theres a bad water texture? Is that really enough to make this a "joke of a port" ? I haven't tried out SH3 but I've been playing SH2 and it's been great so far.

Sound plays a huge part in these games, it's been mentioned many times that the audio port was botched.

Missing fog effects, glitchy audio, shitty framerate in the PS3 version, worse-looking textures etc. etc. When a HD port of a 10+ year old game looks worse than the original version, then yeah, it's a joke.

I haven't had any glitched audio, and my framerate has been rock solid 60 on the 360 version. I don't particularly care about the fog, it's still there and it's still hard to see very far in front of you. So I guess I just don't really see this in such a negative light. I'm just having fun playing Silent Hill 2 again.

So is there any hope of this piece of shit getting a proper patch to fix these issues? If not then screw it I have better things to spend my money on. I'll tell you what though I will never buy a game that Hijinx studio touches.

lol

btw. The MGS ports weren't bad, were they? I wonder why it wasn't done by the same team.

MGS ports are awesome, done by bluepoint. Vita version is being done by ex Retro Studios people (Metroid Prime) the only reason these did not turn out like shit though is because there is no way Kojima would allow it.

Yes. There is no conceivable reasonable excuse for such basic and fundamental effects to be missing in a port of a decade old game running on superior hardware. There is no conceivable reason why highly detailed textures have been replaced with flat, sterile looking surfaces which look as though they were downloaded straight from cgtextures.com with no further work done on them. There is no conceivable reason why the certain pieces of music sound like somebody re-recorded them using a cheap Casio keyboard. There is no conceivable reason why any of this should have happened. It's literally the worst port I've seen since the home computer versions of Street Fighter II.

Wonder why IGN crapped all over Downpour but had no objections to this "collection."

Downpour looks better after this came out. That was, like, the opposite of what I expected. Too bad the monsters were straight out of the Suffering. No. Worse, really. Worse than the Suffering.

Just imagine if these games had gotten a full-on REMake style job. Makes me sad...

I'm gonna have to agree. At least at this point because my PS3 copy has been pretty great to play. :\

Too bad. I guess asking Konami to remake the remake wouldn't work

Not necessarily a joke of a game in and of itself, but yes it's a joke of a PORT.

I'm glad you're enjoying it, and Silent Hill 2 is still a good game in and of itself, but these ports are not by any means good ports at all.

Dear lord. How awful does something have to be before you think people have a reason to complain?

MGS HD was about the very best anyone could ever expect from a collection like this. Bluepoint is an incredibly experienced team that understands things have to be perfect. They were probably just busy with MGS and ZOE and Konami just wanted to crap this out in time for Dounpour.

Dude, if you're enjoying yourself, bully for you, but there's no arguing that this is a shitty port.
"Missing some fog".. lol.

This thread made me finally finish SH2 Xbox(I'd finished the PS2 one years ago), and I can't imagine anyone topping James' voice.

The shift in tone he pulls off when he learns the truth is incredible. Like a man who really has nothing to lose anymore, and is just done.

It's not just fog, it's obfuscation, a pretty big deal in horror games.

I'm not arguing that it's a fantastic port. But jesus, people in this thread are acting like the games are completely ruined and unplayable, that Konami personally came to your house took a shit on your face and wrote Silent Hill 2 in it. The fact of the matter is, that these games are mostly fine. They're still perfectly playable, all the same content is there, the music, the voices (for SH2). If you've never played these games before, you aren't even going to notice the shit people are complaining about, and I seriously doubt it'd ruin any newcomers enjoyment of these games.

No, but it's still an unacceptable standard for an 'HD remake', and Konami deserves to get called out on their laziness.

Personally, I couldn't care less, because even if this looked phenomenal, I'd stick to the originals, but I feel for those who got suckered.

See i don't agree with that.
Silent Hill is not a game, in my opinion, that you can simply "enjoy playing" because the gameplay is pretty much disposable Survival Horror mechanics.
The missing fog in SH2, showing all the shit in the background (as someone said, tearing down the magician's curtain) does broke the immersion and detracts from one of the main point of the game.
The fog is a very very crucial visual point of the game, not just because it's pretty, but because it's central to the game's philosophy and story.

So yeah, the games are playable, you can understand the story and see the credits, but the experience is absolutely not the same and what Ito and the rest of the team intended it to be.
Visual details like these are far more important in a game like Silent Hill, which uses them to tell the story, than in a Ninja Gaiden game, where you're supposed to mainly enjoy the combat in and out of itself, or even another story driven game, that, though, does not rely so much on visual metaphors and cues as Silent Hill.
So yes, it is a big deal, new comers won't be able to see the difference and they'll think they'll have experienced the same, pretty much, but they won't.
Details matter.

It's a shame SH4 isn't in here. The Room of Angel trailer is my favorite part of that game though.

They couldn't even get the number of games in the collection right ;p

In other words, he thinks that Konami has ruined the masterpieces he helped create

That's...a generous interpretation.

Ito seems upset (or at least shocked) and I feel bad for him, but people are kinda fluffing those relatively benign tweets just a tad.

Exactly. It's like watching a colorized version of Citizen Kane.

Konami doesn't seem to understand the concept of diminishing long term brand value

They sure don't. To be fair, this brand was damaged long, long ago though. I'd say right after Silent Hill 4 there was no going back. I mean, making a survival horror game and then suddenly turning it into a Silent Hill game because the heads didn't have confidence in a new IP says it all.

well yea they ruined the SH brand but now I'm talking about the entire KONAMI brand itself is going down and will be irreparable soon
