Bunch of indie Metroidvanias came out, Bloodstained completed it's entire roadmap, Metroid Dread released and it would be amusing if Metroid Prime 4(which was in dev hell) comes out before Silk Song.
Given the apparent lack of updates I'd say that yes it's in Dev Hell and a guy who no longer is working on Silksong isn't a very reliable news source.
Chasing crumbs at this point. If it eventually releases then great but until then it may as well not exist.
If it turns out they are making a much bigger game then it's clear that it'll take years to handdraw everything as is their style of art direction.

3 years. Silksong was announced in 2019. It's 2024 now. I think they announced it too soon.

Metroid prime 4 wasnt dev hell, development restarting again is normal, its when they dont restart is when theres trouble, silksong will be fine

It's the lack of communication and then the anger by devs after they miss their own set timeline that pisses me off.

"Game is huge and is taking way longer than planned" is continually being confused with "development hell", which is an undefined term but usually involves uncontrollable scope creep, feature creep, no direction, and lack of ability on the development team to finish. Sometimes due to lack of financial resources. The term could also mean the game isn't being actively worked on in a manner that would allow it to be finished. Clearly Silksong is not under that kind of threat.
The only thing Team Cherry is doing is working on their game. Just under this intense scrutiny of the public pressure because of the original's quality. And that Silksong began as DLC five years ago.

How do studios keep the lights on through 5 year development time?
Unless you have Fortnite MTX or Sony to pay the bills it must be tough.

Each dev of the first game made individually millions of dollars.
They could still work on it for the next ten years and be financially safe I guess

I'm kind of worried about the game getting bloated too much for its own good. I put about 50 hours into Hallow Knight doing almost everything (didn't do the crazy boss rush modes) and I felt that it was the appropriate timeframe. I don't know if I want to put 100+ hours into a metroidvania game

I understand the concern, Hollow Knight is still my favorite metroidvania, but 40+ hours with all that content was a good length at the top end for me personally. I would be satisfied with a dense, replayable sequel rather than throwing the whole kitchen sink and ending up bloated. Not sure what the reason for the delay is, but I could see the attention to detail and meticulous playtesting/polishing/bug fixing aspect might take a lot longer than expected, especially if they are getting ambitious with the abilities and upgrades. Sequence breaking and making sure all the quests are working properly at all times must be a lot of work for such a small team.

If it were any other title, we'd assume it was vaporware. No meaningful update in two years to me screams development hell, probably in the form of feature creep.
