Sim City is now down, the maintenance message is amazing

Not really. Everything is stored in the cloud. There is no easy way to remove anything. Also, I am pretty sure its general sever load thats the issue.
Yeah it's all stored in the cloud, and city interaction is presumably maintained on the servers, but the actual city simulation runs client side (as demonstrated when the game still functions for a while after losing internet connection). Which means in theory it could be made available offline in future. Essentially the game uploads a save periodically and probably uploads resource data reasonably frequently, which is then downloaded to users currently playing in that region. That process could be emulated offline if they choose to go that route in future.

Has anyone gotten a refund from amazon? Or Origin from a physical copy?

Day 3 and have yet to be able to play 1 fucking game. I want my money back, they can keep this piece of shit.

Seen a couple chat transcripts where the person got a refund. I think it depends on the stubbornness of the rep you get.

Yeah, I saw that too and was confused. Maybe it'll help someone not get the rep that I got, at least.

Now to see if they tell me they aren't authorized to do that over the phone and I have to go through chat, lol

I just contacted Origin's live support, and they suggested I clear my browser cache and/or update my video card: http://rexb.in/btWU

I put it on Reddit.

haha, I'm guessing that is where my conversation was heading but I declined:
Shane: I am sorry for the delay, we are trying our best to get to everyone as quick as possible. Yes but it these circumstances we can not offer a refund. A fix is being completed on the servers and it should be up and running within the next few hours. I can complete troubleshooting with you to speed up your connectivity to assist you with gaining access to the game if that's ok with you.

Yeah, my "connectivity" is the problem

If I recall correctly Diablo 3's problems were with the login servers so if you had a little patience you could still play. Still pretty shitty. But it makes EA's comments about not repeating Blizzard's mistakes all the more hilarious.

Right... I bought this knowing that logging in would be a bitch but I didnt expect to get kicked out and rolled back constantly. Plus my region doesnt even work properly

So amazon is sending me a shipping label and has guaranteed a full refund so cool on amazon.

Absolutely 0 hassle, conversation took all of 20 seconds. They even told me to keep and use the pre-order $20 for my troubles which is even more awesome on their part.

Amazon really is the best. I have no idea why I ordered this from Origin. I even had the disc version pre-ordered from Amazon w/ the $20 credit

The problem is I believe Amazon just eats the loss in this case.

Your money still, in all likelihood, has gone to EA and has counted as a sale.

Glad you could get that worked out though.

This is my first time ever having to deal with a return and i have to agree they are the best. There was absolutely 0 hassle or wait. I feel bad for people who have to jump through hoops with Origin.

I might buy sim city down the line when it's on sale but $60 for a game i can't play is fucking unacceptable. 3 days now and i haven't even been able to play and the fact some people find that acceptable fucking depresses me.

Probably right and i wouldn't of even went this route if i could play the goddamn game. I am ok with 1-2 days at launch being fucked like D3 but it's day 3 and it looks like it isn't getting any better. Since amazon is being so awesome and since they probably are eating the cost i will wait till tomorrow to send it back, if they fix the game by then ill keep it.

I am pretty sure Amazon will get something from with EA after this. they wont take the loss alone.

I suspect Amazon will go to EA and say look, x many people returned your shitty game, and use that as leverage for a price reduction on future game purchases.

If EA doesn't play ball we may have another Amazon/Nintendo hardware situation.

EA is probably going to kill the franchise after this debacle.

'There just isn't consumer interest for a city builder right now.'

No, there just isn't consumer interest in a broken product.

Isn't the problem they are having right now too much consumer interest?

I'd laugh but this is probably the best prediction of their position in 6 months.

Maybe it's just me, but most of the people bitching have already given EA their money (good luck getting it back), and are all part of the problem. We knew about the DRM for months, you still gave EA your money, giving them justification, and now there are server problems?! Who could have seen that coming...

If you are against DRM like this, don't give them your money in the first place, and when you can't access your game because of these predictable DRM consequences, don't act surprised. The servers will eventually be smoothed out and all of this huffing and puffing will go away (until EA shuts the server down and you still preorder the next Sim City).

People who have paid for a product have the loudest voice when the shit hits the fan. Low sales just makes them blame piracy.

Little patience? It was 2-4h of clicking login to get into the game and it would disconnect You from time to time, or do not allow to create an instance and force You to reconnect to the game. There were also latency problem [pikes from 150-1000ms] for many people from EU.

What's Cheetah speed?

Time acceleration? So now they're up to the point of removing crucial features.

They forgot that cheetah speed was developed on a "separate budget". No worries, you'll be able to buy it as future DLC. Remember, game devs gotta eat, and to expect a feature like that to be free reeks of entitlement issues.

D3 had a multiplicty of issues. Sometimes the servers would be too busy for you to start playing. Sometimes the servers would shut down (with a notice in x minutes it'll shut down). Sometimes the lag from the strain on the servers made the game stutter and stammer and look hideous to play.

There really is nothing like having lag and framerate issues on a quality rig with excellent internet...in a game that you're trying to play single player.

But at least we could play more or less. This shit right here? This is pathetic.
