This is one of my favorite wallpapers.

Also, just to let the fans know, in the anime, ***************************** That's the girl you see in these images.
Man, edit that spoiler ASAP, there is a good chance to happen in this game.

I have to give mad props to Ritual for creating John Blade, it is not like we have many videogame heroes who aren't the typical beefcake white guy with a mission. He is a 100% badass, potty mouthed mulatto (?) with dreads and a young criminal background, but without enough trendyness to be appealing to the "urban crew". How cool is that?

SiN was a guilty pleasure. Wages of Sin, the expansion, was actually a lot of fun for a cheesy single-person shooter, and some of the weapons and missions were great. Level variety was top-notch for the time. Less cut-scenes, please, though!

P.S. I think I liked 2015's sIn expansion more than the original game, and I originally played them back to back, after all the patches.

Yes, the add-on rocked, especially the missile pack... I loved their CTF w/ grappling hooks.

EDIT: In addition to being released against Half-Life, the game out of the box was buggy and the loading times were KILLER. That was pretty much the dagger in the heart for Ritual, who got hosed by Activision after they rushed the game out to market, and just lack of support for the game post-release. The first patch improved the load times, and fixed a few bugs.

But SiN MP > HL MP, and that was before the CTF patch.

EDIT2: Head over to Ritualistic for more news. Great site, used to lurk there all the time...

SiN was great, it ended up being under-rated or even just plain dismissed due to being so unreliable and patch-heavy. But if you came into it after the patches were all ready for you, it was a great fps. I got it as a pack-in last century when I picked up one of those STB Velocitys IIRC.

Whenever I crack my knuckles, I think of John Blade.

Do you yell "I'm gonna make you my bitch?"

I dunno, I like the simple things like HEADSHOTS making a difference, and armor really saving your hide on gun fights. I just remember shooting people in the head and them dying instantly as something that was pretty damned cool.

Then there was some great, memorable DM maps. We've all talked about the bookcase, but one of my favorites was the urban map. You could jump across the construction beam and run into a place where, sadly, snipers would camp. And how bitchin' was that sniper rifle?

Ah, poor SiN, underrated is an understatement.

It is not a secret that I whore Blood and SiN like nobody but that's because both games were pretty damn cool at their time and left me marked forever. Heck, they still have many features unavailable in many modern FPS. What made SiN special?

-Absolutely anal impact location. Shot foe in hand, see him dropping the gun. Cloths getting teared in several ways, GIBS
-Great stealth missions. Only the first 100% stealth level was really hard, the rest were very well done
-Good cheese
-A great sidekick. I loved JC's rants and his relation with Blade
-Lots of good weapons
-Gruesome deaths
-Cool dinamic music
-Funny quotes every five minutes that are actually funny
-Mindblowing CG for its time. It only had one movie with CG characters, but it was bloody amazing
-Some of the best level designs I've ever seen
-More secrets and easter eggs you can shake a stick at
-Vehicles and mounted weapons were miles better than the ones from HL. So much indeed that it was not even funny
-One of the longest FPS games ever, also one of the most replayable

And I am missing a lot, there were way too many great things about SiN. It was such a shame that many people ran away from it because of the bugs, which was kinda funny since I only suffered from the massive loading times. I think they were like 15 minutes per level with my old Pentium MMX.

Some of the best moments with SiN have to do with the meaty shotgun. You could crouch near a corner, wait to an enemy and fire all the way up. His legs would fall off with the upper part of the body reduced to gory chunks of meat. If SiN Episodes features the same amounts of gore and havok physics I'm going to be in heaven.

^^^^ Agree with everything excpet the stealth section comment.

Maybe I'm letting the stupid, shitty first stealth mission cloud my memory, but I remember being more annoyed than immersed.

However, the Wages of Sin daytime dock infiltration is a stealth mission that I still think is one of the best, just because there's so much to do.

No other game gives you that warm fuzzy feeling when shooting people. I really loved the headshots, not only did they look cool but you got new armor cause you didnt damage theirs.

Blood/Blood 2/SiN

Three truly underrated shooters that brought me so much joy, yet so much sorrow when I think about how they failed to grab attention. Oh, and Shadow Warrior.

Do the Build engine games work with WinXP? I'd like to replay through Duke3D, Shadow Warrior, and Blood this summer, if that's possible.

I know SiN works, it's just a little too dark, but some gamma changing app fixed that. Blood 2 worked fine with XP last time I checked.

The build engine has been ported, Duke 3D's own Build Engine has been ported, and Shadow Warrior's version of the Build Engine has been ported. Those are playable.

Blood, however, is not. Monolith really needs to release the source.

Can't say I liked Blood 2, though. Shogo was a better game.

Only after some patching and tweaking.

This should be all you need to know.

Only for Blood. Go for the Jonof ports for SW and D3D.

ahhh blood :D
God, don't do that, my heart is too weak =/

Indeed. I am not Shogo's biggest fan but Blood 2 was an utter deception. The future setting didn't work, it wasn't as gruesome as Blood 1 and the engine was way too limited to handle Blood's 2D richness.

I'd kill for another Blood set in the pre 60's, the Lovecraft ambientation from the first one was top notch, I haven't seen so much love in a game in my life, it was obvious that the development team had quite a bunch of caring horror buffs. Also, flareguns>you.

Aaah... more reasons to hate Atari. Well, at this rate maybe I'll be able to buy the IP for a dollar after they crash and burn :D

I just finished installing all the crap needed to run Build Engine games on XP, courtesy of the link that ArcadeStickMonk provided. I played the first couple levels of the shareware version of Duke3D (can't be bothered to find my CD in a box somewhere). Holy crap! I'd somewhat forgotten how fun that game is. Damn, it's been a little over nine years since Duke came out. It's hard to believe it's been that long. It looks great at 800x600, and it controls way better now that I use the mouse and keyboard combo. Back in the day, I wasn't enlightened enough to use the mouselook, so I did everything with the keyboard. What a difference! Anyway, everyone should try it. Duke3D is one of the best games ever.
