Sin and Punishment DS (there isn't one, but there should be)

Most US gamers never played Sin and Punishment and most people who did play it absolutely adored it. I spent some of this morning looking at Sin and Punishment media and I've found that it would work remarkably well on the Nintendo DS.

The graphcs would be easy enough to transfer over, I would think, and would benefit from the sharper look the DS gives titles.

You would control the main character with the D-Pad, Aim with the stylus, and shoot with the L Button. It just seems perfect to me.

Those who HAVE played it, what do you think of this? Would this control scheme indeed work and would the title be well suited for the Nintendo DS?

I think that the DS controls would be an atrocity for a game like Sin & Punishment...If they make me choose between a DS port and releasing the N64 original in US/Europe, I would choose the second one without heasitation.
I think S&P is one of the games that makes better use of the N64 controller.

Dude have you ever played it? It would work great!

Can you explain a bit, because all I really saw in the media was running and gunning.
If that IS the case, then the control scheme I mentioned would work fine.

I wouldn't hesitate at all to get S&P for DS, but yeah there might be a few niggling problems with the control scheme. Surely they'd be able to work it out though.

Make it so Nintendo & Treasure!

no, that control scheme wouldn't remotely work. sin and punishment uses all the buttons on the n64 controller save "L."

I played the import in a shop. And years later on my PC trhough emulation using a PSX controller and it was not the same...
The solution that Olimario says WOULD indeed work but it would be like playing Time Crisis with an stylus...All the challenge would be gone.

What!?!?! I guess I'm not sure how or whu it wouldnot work. you have a freaking touch screen!

Proposed DS button layout:

Screen : Look around (free look)
D-pad movement (use buttons for righties)
L Button: Shoot
Tap screen to jump, same as metroid Hunters

The game had very similar control to a FPS, it would work great.

Olimario, thank you for starting this topic, I will now go and play this game later on today! :)

on the n64 pad, the control stick aims, the c-buttons move you left and right, z fires, r jumps and double jumps, and i think a and b toggle firing modes. so it doesn't actually use all the buttons.

i guess you could remap it to ds such that you aim with the touchscreen, left and right move you left and right, up jumps, and down toggles firing modes. but considering the way you have to jump, doublejump, and move in mid-air, this would either be awkward or entirely unworkable. and touchscreen aiming would change the game entirely. just import the n64 version! it rox!

Hrm.. not sure what I think. It couldn't be a direct port, but a game like Sin & Punishment could really work well. Anyway, I think is best suited for RPGs.

This <insert game I wish were on DS> DS threads have got to stop. Forward your ideas to the respective ocmpanies.

Why? wish threads has been pretty common in GAF since I can remember. DS is a different machine and it´s normal people want to share his views about how to profit it.

Suppose that if it gets annoying will be created a thread to content all that ideas. But IMO I don´t find annoying now this type of threads.

I've got it on N64 and still play it to this day. I agree with Olimario, this game is perfect for the DS. It only takes about an hour to beat, but the replay value is huge. It controls exactly like a fps on N64 and would work great with the same set of control choices as Metroid: Hunters. As far as controls go, the only button used on N64 that aren't on the DS would be the A & B buttons. They're used to toggle your gun to auto-lock and a free aim. Auto-lock is less powerful, but they could solve the problem by putting an icon on the bottom screen, just like the morph ball on Metroid. I would love to see this game in English and without all the blurry textures not to mention the wireless capabilities. They could easily allow you to update your high score wirelessly. Plus on N64 multiplayer, two people can control the same person. One person dodges and runs around while the other person aims and shoots. It might sound dumb on paper, but when you've got a hundred enemies coming at you at once, it's a hell of a lot of fun. It would be a good multiplayer game that only requires ine game cartridge.

Hmm, you can also use the control pad to move, and L to jump... this is actually the control scheme I prefer, for some reason. I think if you use Up to jump, and possibly A or B on the right side to switch your aiming mode, it could work... This definitely is the best N64 game though, and I'd love to see some sort of sequel.
